  • Comparing two 1:18 scale DeLoreans...the Sunstar and Autoart. They are both right out of the box, and you can immediately tell the differences...of course one of those differences is price.

    I have the SunStar DMC-12 as well as the Back To The Future version and they’re both very detailed. Perhaps not as detailed as the AutoArt DMC-12 but here’s why I prefer the SunStar: It’s STAINLESS STEEL just like the real deal. I have several older AutoArt 1:18’s and they’re amazingly detailed in diecast. But now they use ‘other material’ which is probably a resin composite. I refuse to pay diecast money for plastic!

    Even with the issues with the SunStar DeLorean I was just jazzed that they put one out that wasn't the Time Machine. The other issues I dealt with my self. The major three being the headlights, interior color and the door jambs not being black. I do have an AutoArt Lamborghini Miura and LP400 and boy are they nice. I do have the DMC-12 on in my sights and I am totally hoping the update their Alfetta GT to GTV6 spec (hopefully in luci del bosco) so I can have a replica of my GTV6.

    This is awesome. In the Autoart one, the color of the interior is off IMO. It's kind of a yellowish gray, while in reality is't more of a neutral gray.

    • @themodelcitizen988
      @themodelcitizen988  Před rokem

      You are 100% correct. The Autoart's one downfall is the interior. It's not the correct color. No production DeLorean had a yellow-ish interior.

    Great comparison. Is this AutoArt model 79916? The photos I see online look shiny rather than matte on the finish.

    • @themodelcitizen988
      @themodelcitizen988  Před 2 lety

      Yes this is model 79916. It has a more matte finish compared to model 79911, which as you said, is shiny.
      In my experience, the “shiny” one does not replicate a real DeLorean as well. Yes, a real DeLorean can have a “shine,” but the inherit quality of the real DeLorean is that it’s unpainted. It’s just bare metal. So logically it will never shine as much as paint. Model 79911 is paint, like this one, but it’s “shined up” paint, and therefore doesn’t look right.
      I personally think this “matte” finish gives it a more realistic look. But hey, model 79911 looks good too. Whatever suits you, is what you should get! 🙂

      The one with the black steering wheel and seatbelts is the more accurate one, so that is something that would interest me more.

    • @themodelcitizen988

      @@pepsicolazero Due to COVID, it appears that the cheapest that this model is going for is still $199, but with $11.50 shipping, so now about $215-ish. The seller is "minineopet"
      You can also just search "Autoart 1:18 DeLorean" and sort by lowest price. You'll encounter several with dark, almost black exteriors. If you want that, fine, but I've never seen that before and I think it's ugly, so I keep scrolling until I see the "satin," which is their word for stainless steel, the "color" you see in this video.
