- Replacing my current air pump with a more powerful one in the moving bed of the filter chamber and installing the original in-pond gravity skimmer I bought for the pond.

Every day is indeed a school day but In fairness the swim skim you’ve got is a good tool and woks better than some wall skimmers. Certainly not getting rid of mine but happy that I have the in pong gravity skimmer working now. Have fun and stay safe 👍🐟🈲😊

I though of you yesterday. Marek sent me a link of that beautiful ginrin chagoi that Japan Koi Import is selling. Marusei line. Absolutely stunning and of course very good line, Marusei is the best for chags! And it was only £195.

Once again great video. You are my research haha managed to upgrade my air pump to a 320 litre a hour and it’s amazing and was worried my little pond would look like a hot tube but it’s great thanks again would love you to ad a small moving bed to your quarantine tank so I can follow like for like haha 👍🏼

Better running on the skimmer like that i have been more than happy with mine setup that way. And its far easer and cheaper than the built in the wall type that people seam to have been finding splits in and leaks in from new

Great to see how the channel is developing mate. Re the agitatation of the media - do you think you can have too much? Just that I've seen a few others mention that it should do no more than simmer otherwise it can 'knock off' the beneficial bacteria?.... I'm only a novice so apologies if this is complete nonsense :-)
Evening Ray, I absolutely believe you can have too much agitation so your point is valid and after watching the media churn now for a couple of days I have decided to turn the air down so that it’s just enough to keep the media from collecting in the corners. I don’t think there is ever a right or wrong answer or way of doing things as everyone’s pond is different so what works for one won’t necessarily work for another. Never shy away from offering your opinion as all comments are gratefully accepted. 👍😊. Enjoy the last of this good weather and stay safe👍🈲🐟😊
Great vid as ever. Wow that difference in water level is huge! What is the pipe diameter feeding the filter and what total volume per hour pumped back?
Bottom drain is 4” feeding into primary port of drum filter along with a 2” line from the gravity skimmer. Pumps together are pulling 14,000 litres per hour . Minimum recommended flow for drum filter is 10,000 lph and maximum is 25,000 lph so I’m only towards the bottom end. Apparently when running at maximum 25,000 lph using 3 x 4” drains the difference in pond and filter level can be as much as 6” (mine is currently just under 2”). All appears to be working well as water quality is spot on and gin clear so fish are happy which means I’m happy😊👍. Thanks for watching and commenting, take care 👍🈲🐟😊
@@TelfordKoiPond strange. Should be able to pull that volume without different level. I pull 18000 liter 110mm gravity fed thrue a series of strange bends (retrofit problem) without any difference in level. What is limiting gravity flow in your system?
@@greenmachinesweden The level into the actual drum (Start of the filter process) is same as pond, the restriction is the water passing through the screens of the actual drum and then into the moving bed chamber. I’m running with 60 micron screens in the drum, if I swapped to a bigger mesh the screens would let more water through and the difference is levels between the pond and filter would be less but I like the clarity I’m getting with the set up I have 😊👍 . I have spoken at length with the Oase technical team to fully understand the workings and dynamics of the flow rates and I can confirm that my set up is working as designed Anna as per the technical spec for the unit. It’s a really interesting topic of discussion and really comes to life when you turn the pumps up and down (which I’ve done to feed my own curiosity) . Hope this makes sense 👍🈲🐟😊

need help have pond one air pump fitting 18mm I need to adapt to 8mm air pipe any ideas? The pump came with a rubber tube that is about 18mm but can not seem to find a fitting for my large air stone that has a 8mm pipe.
You’ve got me a bit lost as you can normally fit the pipe you mention, over the outlet on the pump and over a plastic or chrome multi connector or you screw a 8mm brass fitting into the outlet on the pump. Just had a look at the Pond one air pumps online and they appear to be standard fittings so you should be able to pick up all the fittings/multi valves/adapters you need on eBay. Let me know how you solve this ? 👍🈲🐟😊

Hello Aaron🖐. It’s an Aqua Forte Floating Surface Pond Skimmer XL which you can get from Cotswold Koi for £62.66. They also do the smaller version at £51.99. There is also an Oase version but I think they are over £80. Hope this helps👍😊
I'm yet to build my pond and have spent many hours trying to work out how to surface skim. I really like the skimmer set up but what happens when the water level drops?
Hello Chris, The moving outer sleeve (which is slightly bigger diameter than inner sleeve and not connected to it at all) overlaps the fixed inner sleeve by about 10 inches when at rest out of the water so when you set up the fixed part (that connects into the hole in the pond wall) there is about a 2” overlap when the water is at its highest so there is about 6 to 8 inches of movement down which is far more than most variations in pond water level even if you do a massive bottom drain purge or water change. The design is so simple and there are no moving parts to wear out or get stuck because of weed growing in the corners (as there aren’t any) . I’m really pleased with how mine is now working so would definitely recommend considering these skimmers. Hope this helps

@@chrishawes5078 it’s an Aqua Forte floating pond skimmer XL. I bought it from Cotswold koi and it was only about £55 which is way less than the £300 plus you can pay for a wall skimmer or the £250 I paid for the Oase swim skim 50. I believe Oase do a very similar floating in pond skimmer but not sure how much it is. Hope this helps 👍🈲🐟😊
Can I ask what airline you are using to your bio tank 🤔
I’m using 8mm internal diameter braided airline (so basically just the black braided airline you can but from most shops) . Over the years I have found this to be the best/strongest/longest lasting airline available. When I first started I was using a 45 lpm air pump which was perfectly sufficient for the amount of media that comes with the unit but I’ve gradually added more and more media (at 80 litres of helx13 and 30 litres of Qase pond pads now) so am currently running a 65 lpm pump. Thanks Phil. I’m looking at the EA 8mm sinking air line to run my not yet set up, Burtons 1300 bio tank. The bio will run 3 x 50mm ceramic cylinder stones but I need to upgrade from my EA 75 to the Charles Austen 120 to generate good turbulence. I bought the bio and 300bd drum used but I think I have around 300 litres + media to move 😬
What connectors are you using from pump to air stone?
