I'm 22 years old girl, a student in my local university, a Muslim, and from Malaysia. I, now have a different believe right now, but I haven't talk about this to anyone yet. I feel forced into something that I'm not. I feel I don't have the right. My family have strong faith in Islam, so talking and sharing about this matter to them isn't the best way for me either. My circle of friends are mostly Muslims. I feel like I don't belong in this place. The only person who I can share with is my younger sister, who's in her 19. She's the only person who support me no matter what.
The thought of one day I will definitely leave Islam, telling this to my family and friends about me having a different way of belief, seems like non-achievable. One thing for sure, if later I'll be arrested and given death penalty, I will not be afraid. Because for sure, that is the time when I'm finally free.

I don't think you should declare apostasy openly. You won't be killed for that in India but your parents might cut ties with you. I am not sure about the caste system. I think you should approach ISKCON for conversion because they do not believe in caste system. I asked an Iman a while ago about leaving Islam. He said the punishment is death, so easily like he was talking about something minor.
I was very shocked and told him that it is a very harsh and unjust punishment. He didn't like it. I also told him that it is a violation of human rights to kill someone who leaves a religion. He replied, when there is clash between human rights and religion, Muslims should follow the religion.
I am not Muslim anymore, and it is mainly because I did my research and there are alot of points that don't make sense at all. Islam should reinvent itself and remove all the bad points, then people like myself will consider converting back to Islam. Otherwise, not my thing to be honest.
Those who still follow the religion, remember to raise these points in gatherings, so these violations are stopped, otherwise status quo will continue.

I remember experiencing the same thing as you did. I don't come from a sharia-ruled country, but I know some people around me who agrees with the apostasy law in Islam and doesn't seem to see anything wrong with it.

When I was in grade 8 we were taught that apostasy laws are there to protect the religion, so that people are scared of leaving Islam.
Looking back, that sounds horrible, but what can I say? I was being played like a puppet since I was born and now I've left Islam. The process of leaving behind something you believed all your life is scarring. I'm glad I'm only 17. If I was older it would've been much worse.

@@MrPinoCavallo We do still have traditions that predate the arrival of islam. A Persian does not need to be muslim to be called Persian. There're even anti-arab movements in iran because we are aryans and nationalists say that arabs want to arabize persians. If you go through internet and look for anti-arabism you will find some results that mention iran.

I am a tunisian. Tunisia is an exeption among muslim countries. There is no punishment for leaving islam. The constitution protect liberty of opinion and faith. There are still some legal restrictions for non muslims (for example only muslims can become presidant) but globaly apostasy is legaly ok. The number of ex-muslims is highly growing in the country, espetially among young generations.
Tunisia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and maybe Turkey and Malaysia are the only Islamic countries I'd feel even remotely comfortable with visiting.

@Jeff Boy Partition was hard on many people. My ancestry traces back to East Bengal(East Pakistan after partition and now Bangladesh). From the accounts that I've heard, my grandparents on both sides of the family lost a lot of relatives during partition. My uncle visited their ancestral house in Bangladesh last year and found it occupied by a Muslim family that turned out to be his second cousin's family.

There is NO CHRISTIAN law or rule that says a Christian has to die because of apostasy because faith as the Bible says is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Heb.11:1)
So no one can force you to believe with your heart something, you can confess it with your mouth but if you don't really believe so with your heart the Bible says is a dead faith, a false faith and it does not mean anything to God. That's why there are plenty people around the world proclaiming themselves as Christian but they don't follow Jesus teaching because they have no faith but just proclaime themselves as Christian for convenience.

BTW The interesting part about mosaic law is, many times you read the punishment is death or e.g. mutilation. But most of the time this was not done, instead the Sanhedrin (or another panel of judges) would punish you with a fine which they considered to be equal to death or mutilation. ... Only in the rarest of cases, if there was no way out, then the punishment would be as prescribed according to mosaic law.

About the thing that some Muslims consider it's kind of ok to leave Islam _as long as you don't tell anyone, or proclaim any other religion out loud_
-If we in the west (or Christians) had the same law for Muslims in our Western/Christian states there wouldn't be many Muslims left here..
I really have to confront a Muslim who defends/accepts this Islamic law, and ask what he would think if Christians had the very same law. Because in my country Sweden, Muslims now want to scream out "Allahu akbar" from their mosques every Friday, even though most of them actually made statements about _not ever_ doing that when the mosques were built.
Some mosques already have permission now and most people don't like it. If we accept this -we will see that they demand it for _every_ day, and if we do that.. we will accept more and more, until it's unstoppable

Left mentally since 2015. 2019, I moved away from my parents' household and gained complete freedom of my will and decision in terms of beliefs. My family and I are on good terms still but, I no longer have to live and abide by the Islamic lifestyle. It's been very liberating as the type of life I wanted to live has things that are strictly forbidden in it. I can actually be gay, have my hair long, be effeminate in behavior and dress.
I can be true to my nature that I suppressed out of fear of disobedience and punishment for over a decade. There are other mental drawbacks of that much time suppressing myself amongst other things but, this has been the real first step of healing and self-acceptance.

@Luan Lopes I am not an Amazigh, person, I looked that the situations that the people lived in and how many of the Amazigh people has to flee to the mountains in Algeria and Libya for safety. To this day in Morocco, they are still treated differently in many situations in that country and are ruled by a king who is a descendant of the man who have the commands to conquer their lands.
Hi, does anyone know how such Apostasy/Blasphemy-Laws apply to non-muslims? I've never been a muslim, gladly, also never have been baptised as christian, but been always very outspoken against religion on the internet. I've shared mohammed-caricatures and made ridiculed islam like it deserves. Now I want to visit an Arabic country where blasphemy is punished by death, can they arrest me for what i've posted on the internet (not while I am there)
