People have already shown that the notch has sharp edges and that it is capable of stripping a (thinner) wire without using the blade, as is shown in the very victorinox booklet that comes with the SAKs! Just use the correct wire diameter.
Finally a real review instead of unboxing it and talking about it. I'm curious about this knife and I was a little apprehensive. Thanks for doing the hands on stuff to convence me to get it

that notch works as a stripper for soft wires with a smaller diameter. Attention, it works perfect when u want to strip at the end of the wire, to be soldered or anything else. Put the wire somewhere at its end but not too far then simply push it down completely, like you want to close that tool. Then open the tool again. Big surprise, it works awesome! For bigger and harder wires the best way it is the one you show here. On bigger tools they have a special tool for it.
Open the main blade, put the cap opener at the half stop. Insert wire in slot. Carefully close main blade against the wire and spin the knife.

What you can do with that small notch also depends on the type and size of your wire, I think.
I haven't stripped too many wires with a SAK (or with anything else :D) but I remember using that notch on some thinner cables with more inner strands. I used the blade to make a small cut in the insulation (I didn't cut it all the way through like you did on that solid wire because I would have cut the thin strands) and then I pulled off the insulation with the wire stripper notch. It worked quite well and it was easier than trying to pull it off with my fingers.
However, I have made it very clear that this so-called "wire stripper" is useless, it can only be used to bend a wire. Indeed, as soon as the sheath of a wire is cut correctly (with the knife for example), I can strip it by hand. I hope that Felix Immler's idea (proposing a real cable stripper) will make its way to the drowsy brains of Victorinox! :) What's more, this 2 mm wide notch is far too small for most commonly used cables (power cable wires).
@@diezelle57 I don't want to argue: it's for sure not the most useful tool on a SAK, and there mith be better implementations.
I was just saying that your way of "making it very clear that it's useless" on ONE type and ONE size of wire is not a really convincing demonstation.
And in general: the fact that you haven't found a use for a tool yet, doesn't mean that it's completely useless. I know people who carry a Pioneer every single day and they hardly ever use the reamer. For me, it's probably the most used tool for all kinds of random tasks...
But again, no offense, I'm just trying to point out that it's probably more useful for some other cables.
