@@tanisegsge4586 once you get on a video call with them. They will record their screen where it shows you enjoying the show. And then after, they will blackmail you with the video saying they will share it with your family or put it up online. They will first ask for something small, but once you pay, they will keep squeezing you for larger and larger amounts.

These types of scams are going on for a long time, one of my friend from college got scammed like this on Facebook back in 2015.

This recently happened with my mother and one of my friend. One takeaway from those experiences is never fear them, they feed on your fears and NEVER pay them a single rupee
So something like this happened with my friend's friend. An important point to note is that this happened in the USA. My friend is from India and his friend was from some other country. He paid 1000 dollars for it just because he didn't want any issues with his studies and didn't wanna get kicked out. This really puts some people in a bind because the stakes are pretty high to lose. All he did was attend a video call and he got framed in the mess. For this, I would suggest informing authorities ASAP and do not pay them because they will keep on demanding more and more money.
India has one of the highest number of scammers and I feel very sad that the government or police dosen't take any strict action against these scammers. They're just defaming our country.....

Most importantly, don't pick up video calls randomly. Check who it is. Cover your camera if it's someone unknown. Once sure, open your cam

I think the video calling feature in every app should be restricted only to the people who are in the added friend/known list of the person concerned! This would easily tackle this kind of issues!🙃

You can do it easily on WhatsApp. Infact you can also restrict mesages fr unknown contacts

Internet has successfully reached to corners of India but cyber scam awareness is still very less in every corner of India.
Other tech channels just give unboxing video and then they just go but you are the one who is concerned for his subscribers hats off to you sir 😊
One simple trick: Whenever u get a video call from a stranger, block the front camera with a thumb before picking up.
Even better is cut the call and do an audio call back and confirm.

I had similar experience like this but they call me for applying for job and not accepting it so he was saying ki apka chalan laga hai i thought he was talking about vehicle chlan so i ask him for my bike number than he said that its about not accepting job ( probably got my number from site like quikr or naukri ) then he ask me for my location i didn't tell him about that also asked for his information so he said I'm from cyber police Orissa (true caller was showing same location) than i asked him about his batch number and service number than he kept saying tell me ur location first then after some time he cut the phone and didn't call me
