  • Taking a circuit on the Masterton Miniature Train Society track.
The locomotive, DG 755, is an outline replica of the 70-ton, 750hp English diesel electric locomotives that worked the New Zealand Government Railways Wairarapa Line after 1955, when the Fell incline was replaced by the Remutaka tunnel.
Masterton's 18hp Wisconsin 4-stroke petrol-enginned version was built by Loader Engineering in 1972, and repowered and converted to hydrostatic drive in 1993 by Tulloch Farm Machines. The locomotive is four metres long and weighs approximately one tonne.
A group of volunteers runs the trains on weekends, public and school holidays, weather permitting, but the service is also available for private hire and welcomes preschools and schools for a visit.
