I would play this exactly how Mike Phillips played it from this video if I had ever gotten a chance to play the star spangled banner on my saxophone at a special event.
Hello, I was one. I genuinely thought this version was bloody awful. Happens all the time, they try to get a new spin on a great tune, it rarely works.
Played a little fast, then the circular breathing for the long held note was a little inconsistent. Good fingering technique. Interesting improvisation, stayed in key. Overall I’d give it 3.5/5.
Sorry if this offend's anyone, but at the age of 74, hearing a shredded version of the U.S.A. National Anthem though having the right, just isn't right. The U.S.A. is under some stress currently, but as alway's will come through it. In the mean time though it's allowed here unlike any where else. Just because one could, doesn't alway's mean one should.
Way too much riffing sounded like a train-wreck, great saxophone players play Tastefully, what he just played was a bunch of garbage a joke and a dishonor to our national anthem.
So I'm assuming that you opinion is, a certain wounded vet from the 101 Airborne, didn't play tastefully, what he played was just a bunch of garbage. His performance was a joke and a dishonor to our national anthem. czcams.com/video/sjzZh6-h9fM/video.html
You're saying great saxophone players play "tastefully" and don't "riff"? Tell me you know nothing about the saxophone without telling me you nothing about the saxophone.
Wow this guy can play, well done!
OMG that was one of the best I've ever seen.
The Julio stamp of approval
Goosebumps!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 bring it back
How is he able to hold that one note out for very long?! I could never do that quite yet.
Circular breathing
@@bestmusic33 oh that’s a cool trick
By breathing in through his nose, while pushing air out of his mouth using air stored in his cheeks. This technique is called "Circular Breathing."

If I had a sax.

I think they sped it up so they wouldn’t infringe on copyright.
