    just to add my 2 cent, buying used panels have been great for me so far. cheap and they output the same rated power as if they were new, hot weather performance is great too. doesn't drop off much . its a cost effective way to go. if your starting out. just check them out for any cracks if possible before buying, that depends on your situation, i found someone locally so i was able to check them all out and pick the ones i wanted, i was told they used to power a Walgreen's for 8 years. now they serve me well!

    I look forward to learning how you build your shed roof out of PV panels. I replaced my patio roof wit PV panels, but I still have gaps, so its not rainproof. Great idea and if your panels have airflow under them, they will be cooler and produce more😊

    The breaker size should be at least 125% larger than the load. In other words the the load should not be more than 80% of the breaker rating. So in your case with a 50 amp load the breaker should be bigger than 62.5 amps. This would bring you to a 70 amp breaker. Then you would size the wire for 70 amps.

      ive got an EG4 6000XP and im loving it, it switches over to utility if i overload it, and never have to do anything to it. it just plain works. very happy with it. wish i could have afforded the 18K PV but ill probably go that route in the future, i built my batteries and used T class fuses for safety and BMS on each pack. the communications work with the inverter too, as it should.

    I just bought a 2011 Nissan Leaf and found out that Albuquerque has an EV rate of $0.031 between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM with a special program. That car may be worth much more now, if I charge this system at night and use batteries all day. Regular "Time-of-Day" rates are over $0.04 on off peak hours. The off peak hours are greater than the 7 hours of EV rate, but if I can get all I need in 7 hours, the EV rate is a huge benefit that I had not foreseen.
    My new $1200, 30 mile range Leaf, is actually going to save me more than I could have imagined. Making it almost a free car that gives me cheap electric rates for my whole home. As long as it is registered to this address, I qualify for the EV rate.

    May I recommend something like the emporium vue to do a power audit on your whole house and different breakers like the big items. This can later be transferred to your sub panel that you install to monitor how much individual breakers are doing for certain items to go with your over all usage logs from the battery/solar and inverter logs.

    Like to hear how your making the solar roof water proof ? I'm planning on using the poly-carbon corrugated panels under the solar.
    PS buy the SunPower 400watt AC panels , you'll get 6K from 15 panels. Direct connect to your sub panel

    Hands down the Power Wall was easier to install, each power wall has a built in inverter and the gateway was simple to wire also.. I happen to install my own system, 3 power walls and gateway, with 19Kw worth of solar. SunPower panels. Please cover how the Cyber truck is going to back feed the house ? Does the CT require a Version 3 gateway to feed the house ?

      @@balanwyt $117 ish per panel. New. Bought a pallet of 30 panels for $3495 added 5 extra for $602. Panels were actually the cheapest part of the system. The inverter and racking cost more then the panels do.

    I'm getting ready to start a new home which will be facing south and probably will not be using any solar panels so, if I use this configuration for powering my air conditioner would I have any savings in power usage since the batteries are being charged by the grid? Or would this only serve as a backup power for the air conditioner during a power outage? By the way I will only have electric so the unit is also a heat pump for my winter heat.

    A quick search is showing the EG4 system is 30% cheaper, but does it interface with the house this easily?

    • @Alexdiaz727
      @Alexdiaz727 Před 29 dny

      I assume you mean the battery? I don't think the battery interfaces with the house at all. It interfaces with the inverter via the cat cable and the settings on the inverter. If my understanding is right their are several battery options that work with this inverter. This is inverter is actually sold as a kit of 14KW of Solar, EG4 18kpv inverter, with a EG4 14.3KWH battery on the Santan website. would still have to source a racking system for the solar though. I imagine they used that battery because they are working with big battery. They probably got the battery for free or are getting a % of the sales from people who use the 5% savings code. Also they mention in the video that big battery is a US company and they want to support them over the Chinese company.

    We live in north Texas and in the spring, summer, and fall, it is not unusual to have thunderstorms come through and deliver hail stones as large as baseballs. So, my question is how do those solar panels hold up to being pelted with baseball sized balls of ice? Or larger?

    I have sub-panel already; and have 14 PV solar panels mounted (14 in 2 arrays); Tesla m3; no commute / work from home; StarLink dish. This sounds perfect. But rural area where Tesla solar & PW will not be coming.
    One comment in prior video said “Inverter is noisy ?? - hope you will discuss that and potential inverter outside by panel.

    I was just recently watching a video by a CZcams channel called The Penny Wise Guys who built a solar pergola roof that is water tight. They use mounts on the top and bottom of the panels, and seal the sides, then use a gutter system at the seams where the top and bottom panels meet that doubles as the mounting rails... You can see here, they start describing the mounting system at about a minute thirty: czcams.com/video/Y37-Q0e_FbA/video.htmlsi=2aFBvCvGCqE35t9I
