Personnel at the Army Training Centre in Pirbright have taken part in a special challenge to raise funds for their local NHS trust. After watching the remarkable fundraising efforts of Captain Sir Tom Moore, Corporal Dikendra Gurung decided to organise a doko race. The infamous test forms a key part of the selection criteria for Gurkha recruits in Nepal. Participants are required to carry 15 kilogrammes in a bamboo basket, secured by a headstrap, uphill for five kilometres within 50 minutes.

Britain have cheated Nepal a lot ,they captured Nepal’s land and didn’t return before thye leave India .British force stop Nepalese warrior to touch the sea .today nepal suffering from being landlocked and domination of neighbours.Thye used young Nepalese boys in brutal war ,they won including Falkland island with the help of Gurkha .what nepal got ??? Gurkha have always saved their pride and sovereignty what Nepalese got ??? It’s shameful today nepal become one of the poorest country .India capturing its boarder day by day threatening blockade ,and other trade and supply

madhukar kc just stf bro. Don’t blame Britishers for that but blame ur corrupted ancestors who took some land from Britishers while signing Sugauli treaty that was signed in 1815 btwn East India Company & Nepal.
In Suguali treaty Nepal’s Chandra Shekhar Acharya & pandit Gagraj Mishra got (10-12 bigas) of land from Britishers.
When india got independence from Britishers our politicians could have asked for Greater Nepal but they didn’t. So stop blaming. Long live UK-Nepal relations. 🇬🇧❤️🇳🇵

Absolutely, if they actually just use the sling (namlo) it would be way harder. All the weight pressure would be on the head and neck. The "Doko"(basket) would wobble and be off balance while running which would make it way harder.
But stll it would not be piece of cake like you mentioned. You have to run up the hill 5 Km. carrying 25 kg in your back , in a specific time competing with hundreds of boys who were selected from thousands.

I remember doing my doko race during my selection training in Nepal. I had one friend who always come with me. Our running route was up the stairs to famous danda kalika temple; since we didn’t have any hills in Chitwan; this was only place for me to train. It was all stairs; almost 5km up with few surfaces flat. It was so tough initially but after training for months and months; we were used to that kind of session; our neck muscles were stronger and hence no pain later months. The amount of pleasure I used to get after the race was immense; our feet used to be so light as soon as we drop our doko after the race and feel like we weren’t walking on floor but about to fly off the ground :). On the way back; me and my friend used to sing together. I miss my friend now; because he got enlisted in Singapore police and I got here in British Army and we couldn’t meet after that. He come to Nepal once every 4 years and that’s only time by luck; we meet physically. Other than that being unhappy; I’m very happy that my hardwork paid off and met other close friends here from different parts of Nepal. Joining British Army has taught me so many things and would be always thank ful for because it’s a blessing and something that will remain with me forever. Just think; to be selected within only 420 out of 30000 applicants how lucky I was. For selecting me; other 71 were not successful. That’s a lot of hardwork and luck. Finally; thank you for reading through.

Sad that the Nepali folk dont realize how colonial this "selection" race is, getting them to race like mules must have been the idea of some enlightened British officer of the empire.
