- How to Convert MBR to GPT During Windows 10/8/7 Installation.
Sometimes, when you are trying to install Windows on your PC, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks" error message pops up and interrupts the installing process. Please note the conversion process will format/clean the drive as shown in the tutorial.
In this case, you are required to convert MBR to GPT to get the problem fixed. But how can you make it during Windows installation?
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops,and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

@_royal_aghori_ I can't say for sure but I think it has the same process so it might work, record everything so if you need to take it to a repair shop they have an idea of what you did

When we mark our drive d or any other driver as active and when you restart your computer it shows orange screen or says "an operating system wasn't found". How can we fix it without getting a bootable pendrive and re-installing windows.
@@Ace-wo6ur just go to your boot screen and set the drive(where you have installed OS) as a default bootable drive.. That's all

Thanks for your help. Just to add, I have an old Dell and had to actually hit the FN + SHIFT + F10 to get it to open, and also needed to change from GPT to MBR and your tutorial worked for that as well.

Watching this video in 2023. And holy hell you deserve a god damn award. I converted my 0 disk from a mbr to a gtp on my desktop which in turn caused me not to be able to launch windows again. Had get a usb to download the windows installer. But the fact that you showed us how to convert a Mbr to a gtp in such a quick, easy and efficient manner is amazing. I love tech , i built my PC 5 yrs ago and today after my last BIOS update , my booting started acting up . I cleaned my M.2 ssd and when i tried to install windows after activating Secure Boot in Bios ,it said that windows on EFI can't be installed on an MBR partition .. and i was like daaaamn , and then sir , i found your video ! NOTE: this works great but do not run the "clean" command if you have other partitions in the disk, because it will wipe everything. Make sure you always back up your data.

Appreciate the help. Just upgraded my PC and my new motherboard doesn’t recognize the OS installed. Doing it through a USB and this made it significantly easier.
Just an FYI, you can wait until you get to 4:47 to see if the drive is already GPT, if not, Shift+F10 works at this point as well. Just click on Refresh after you exit the command prompt and it will show it as available. Another aside, if you're using a USB ISO, make sure you don't accidentally "clean" the USB drive thinking it's a disk or partition :-(

Fairly certain changing the partition type will always wipe the data. That's from my experience atleast.
I'm sure there are methods and tutorials on CZcams on how to extract that data from your hard drive before changing the partition
