In this tutorial i'll show you how to install Windows 10 on GPT disk using UEFI bootable USB, i'll show you briefly the main differences between MBR and GPT disks so you know why 3 terabyte disks show only 2 terabyte in MBR disks, how to change between MBR and GPT, and how to install windows 10.

Here in 2021 I decided to get a pc i had sitting around back up and running it sat for 3 years so around the time you made the video is when it went out I let it be and built a high end pc well decided to fix this for my girlfriend and you saved my day and teached me something new well appreciated man im subbing
Really awesome. Didn't know it could be solved so easily by rufus. I got caught up in the same thing last year also. Had formatted the older windows without noticing the "next" button was unclickable, had to borrow friend's hard drive, install windows in that and use that to partition my disk as mbr using third party software then install windows in my disk.
Wish I'd found this solution then. Anyways still really happy to found this solution as i was in the same exact problem now also.

I was fighting with a newer dell optiplex
And I noticed there is no longer boot support for internal legacy installs, so even though I could run the win 10 install to the ssd on the mbr partition from usb created by the win 7 usb/dvd creation tool, when I tried to boot there was no drive and it went to support assist and scanned and told me so, and I found some posts that made no sense and obviously weren’t on the right path, I finally found one that said exactly you can’t use Microsoft’s win 7 usb tool and that you had to use Rufus, I thought yes, that’s exactly why, so I ran to my office pc, downloaded Rufus, creates the gpt boot usb, set the bios back to uefi, it saw it, it booted and ran install on the ssd that I had already wiped and made gpt using disk part, thanks a million!!

Was so sickened when I thought my 4tb laptop he was limited to only 2.... Thank God for this info.. I'm partitioning in GPT mode right now in UEFI mode.. gotta reinstall Windows and the whole 9 to get back to the goal

Thanks you have helped me a lot through this video awhile ago while I was trying to do a reformat on an office computer.. Couldn't do it at first because the Disk was GPT.. Good thing i did my research and found this video.. And was able to convert GPT to MBR and the format was finally successful. Keep up the good work of producing tech-related tutorial videos.

what an excellent post.... I'm disabled... bought ASUS X99 back in 2014 spanky new and all the ram plus an M.2 SSD and NEVER got round figuring out installing and setting it all up (built 125TB machines on PhenomIIx6 high end as well as an AsRock Extreeme11/ac build with all the bells and whistles) but head injuries and memory loss (of concentration etc) meant IT'S STILL SAT HERE AWAITING an O/S ...THIS IS THE ONLY THREAD I FOUND THAT SIMPLY INSTRUCTED A NOVICE "IN OVER MY HEAD" how to get the darn M.2 to be GPT instead of the MBR it's set to - A HUGE MASSIVE TA VERY MUCHLY for the best thread (and ONLY) that makes it EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY!!!!! in the time it's taken to type my THANKS it's already installed W10 and doing the updates - four YEARs sat doing NOTHING...woohoo!

i actually feel so bad for you. I understand it might not be common knowledge. But whenever you perform any command that is "clean" or anything related, it is 99.9999% of the time formatting the thing.

Its kinda obvious that the clean command is only there to CLEAR all the data in the disk so you can convert it in the next command...

A warning to anyone who is thinking about using Rufus to format a drive: I downloaded it to my Windows machine and attempted to use it to format a USB drive for Elementary Linux. Not knowing which partition scheme I needed to use and unable to find assistance about this anywhere, I simply chose one and figured if it was wrong I could just go back and reformat the drive again. Wrong. The second time, it erased my whole Windows machine.
You’d think it would be damn near impossible to erase your C drive given that Rufus is set up in such a way that you can't choose any drive except for a mobile drive. Yet somehow it changed the second time I ran the program, and this time it was pointed straight at my C drive and erased my entire computer. As you might imagine, this has been a horrible inconvenience. I don't even know how I'm going to get my Windows license back because it is a used machine and I don't technically own the license.
My advice is to use Etcher.

Why can't my system recognize or boot from my USB drive. It just boots until it gives a blank screen.
I know this video old but none of the commands shown in video works except convert mbr " invalid drive specification ".
Every other command shows
" 'list' is not recognizes as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file ".
I'm not using rufus, i'm using regular windows installer, is that the reason?

This doesn’t have to be so complicated, it’s very easy to do.. If you have a new hard drive your done, if it’s mbr clean it. And your done. Windows will convert it.
