I have a confession to make: after all of my kvetching about the direction ASUS decided to go with their latest releases, weeks went by and I realized that the Zenfone 8 has been in my pocket the most. So, I was wrong about the ASUS Zenfone 8 -- so let's explore that as I talk about what worked and what didn't.

I gotta say, after over 7 months of using this phone its only gotten worse. Finger print scanner doesn't ever work with a glass screen protector. There are no decent or good cases for this phone to help mitigate the fact it doesn't have a glass screen protector, aaaaaand the screen lock doesn't work under any circumstances. Today I actually had the phone fully turn off in my pocket. I regularly make pocket calls, send pocket messages, and I have no idea any of its happening. I have to carry the phone screen side away from my body, just to try and mitigate the amount of times the screen comes unlocked, and THEN the screen is exposed behind a flimsly layer of denim say in a pocket. There's a special setting in the phone called Asus Pocket Assistance, and it actually makes ZERO difference to the phone, I gave up on that "assistance" over 3 months ago. Oh and if you try and put a film protector on the rear cameras, every photo you take comes out taken from inside a cloud.

I honestly couldn't wait to see the new Zenfone. I was really worried that I would have to make the decision between speed and a small form factor. I've gotten so used to my old S8 that I couldn't imagine going with something bigger. Now that the Zenfone 8 is out in the US, I made sure to scoop it up as soon as possible. It solves both of my problems with my previous phone, the first being the obviously lackluster performance being a 4 generation old phone and the second being the curved glass on the front. Also large screens are problematic for one handed operations -if the resolution is good, it shouldn't be an issue if only one person has to see the screen. Suppose you are watching a vid with somebody, why would you see on your phone when you have a laptop with bigger screen instead.

These small smartphone manufacturers come up with new ideas and decisions where the bigger players in the market like samsung and Apple are literally scared of new ideas and implementing them cos they always want to play safe game. I think that the flip camera should stay until the smartphone manufacturers come up with the technology which can provide a notch or puch hole displays. i think that the notch free display is the main reason for the flip camera in the first place. As soon as the Zenfone 8 was released in the UK I was interested - all I wanted was a phone that didn't give me a nose-bleed when I inevitably drop it on my face when using it in bed. Small, but not too small, and the guts of a flagship!? That sounded perfect. So the only thing giving me pause now is how well will this function on Tmobile in a big city where 5G is everywhere, without being able to use all the bands? Tmobile has a history of not supporting phones they don't officially carry on their LTE and 5G bands. So my question is, do you notice in the US using this? Or am I overthinking? Otherwise this phone seems perfect to me.

Hi I am struggling to choose between s20fe 5g and asus zenfone 8. I mainly use it for watching youtube, taking call, use as GPS in my car and taking pictures/videos. They are similarly priced here in Australia. I want one with good cameras, and has decent battery to last me the whole day(s20fe has a larger battery, but a bigger screen to power, whereas the asus has a smaller screen, and a newer processor). S20fe comes with 6gb of Ram here in AU, and asus with 8gb of Ram. I have an Asus Max Pro 2, at the moment. The battery is fine, but after sales software updates is a concern for the Asus, and hoping it would be better with Samsung. The OS is clean for Asus, so it's a plus, but samsung comes with its security and other perks. Can you please help me choose? Please remember the camera and the battery life.

@JackBauer137 Yes, I did buy the s20Fe, 8GB Ram, Dual Sim. Bought it a couple of months back. S21 FE did not have a definitive release date, so did not wait for it. Since I bought the international variant with 8GB Ram, I think I am covered for the future. I am not after the latest and greatest. I am happy with what I have got, for the price I paid for it.

This was interesting experience for me as I have the S21 Ultra and M11 Ultra, when I first handled the Zen Fone 8 it was an interesting experience not having to deal with gymnastics to handle the other phones, I thought the ZF8 would be a mid tier or mid performer but listening to Spotify with my high end earphones while doing email and other things and after that playing games and just coming to the realization that the ZF8 never missed a beat. Pictures were on par with my OP9 Pro , battery was great and BTW it did not feel like a brick on my pocket started beg the question why did we migrate to the Frankenstein size phones, it's not screen resolution as this thing is awesome, it's not audio capabilities as again this phone beats the other ones, it's not chipset, it's not battery , most people told me it's the camera but really who needs 50x zoom, etc??. This phone has become my daily personal driver, I do use the Fold 2 for work but mostly in tablet mode. This little beast is staying by my side. Greta Video and Thoughts!!!!!!

This phone does most things right; ppl have begun to forget what a phone actually is. Today's phones, especially the "plus/max" models are what we used to call phablets, such as the Note-series from Samsung.
Zenfone 8 positives (in no particular order):
    + ip68
    + Headphone jack
    + Small, user friendly size
    + Matt finish
+ Low(er) en price (still too expensive)
+ Covers all the ESSENTIALS of a phone (no, wireless charging not essential)
    + 120 hz screeb, AMOLED
    + DualSIM
+ Full SD888; no compromise to power just because it's a "small" phone (even though this is the size phones should be)
    The only things "bad"
    - not triple camera (but not essential)
    - no microSD card expansion
And while I do love the idea of the flip camera, I rather have a phone that is IP68 and has fewer moving parts, this less potential points of failure.

I just bought this phone specifically because of the smaller form factor. Traditionally been a Galaxy guy but I just smashed my S10 because it was always slipping out of my pocket due to its size. I found I always had to be mindful of where my phone was on my person while at work and move it around depending upon what I was doing, and it still got broke! Had to go back to my Galaxy S6 which was a shock at first but it was great not having to think about my phone all the time and concentrate on what I was doing. If the battery wasn't on the way out in the S6 I probably wouldn't bother with a new phone.
The Zenfone 8 ticks all but one box on my list... No sd card! Why Asus? WHY??
