  • Beargarden was a new wave band from Melbourne, Australia which, though well regarded critically, failed to achieve widespread success. It evolved directly from the post-punk group 'The Ears' which disbanded in 1981 and reformed under the new name with Ross Farnell replacing Cathy McQuade on bass. The other members were Sam Sejavka ( vocals) Mick Lewis (guitar), Carl Manuell (drums) and Gus Till (keyboards). Lewis was replaced later that year by Shane Andalou.

to have a song that almost went top 50 is amazing,i call it success and couldn't be more jealous after writing songs for 30 years.

The main character in Dogs In Space was based entirely on the lead singer who has genius level IQ(apparently) Cannot understand why they never got anywhere.... unless smack destroyed them

They were militant anti establishment and anti capitalist. They were a threat basically. Sadly the rich and powerful can rub out anyone with a brain.

sad this track never got more recognition... but things were changing fast back in 1985 and the volume of bands was increasing at a rapid rate with many studio bands beginning to produce the euro disco wave of 84 - 86 that eventually forced the incorporation of the dance chart into the pop chart with the likes of euro dance chart toppers Boom Boom by Paul Lekakis and Love And Devotion by Michael Bow selling so many units they topped the pop charts in many countries... if this song hit a few years before in 1983 then i think they would've been bigger.

@@paulbradley705 wow 6yrs later. cool.... radio and TV did support the track but demand was low and the sound in 1985 was now changing. in 1981-83 "Duran Duran, Ultravox" era it may have been a big hit... i used to have the 12" of I Write The News as well as the 7". i thought the track would work, but seems time beat it.... gotta give INXS big points for daring to change style. they could've "Chisel'd" it forever with the "Dont Change" sound and Aussies would've worshipped them.
