  • Part 2, apps that let you stay at home (NO CLOUD)
    UPDATE:
I asked about controlling the lights from separate app and its a no...
I asked about password and so far no success, there may be a way with a text file on an SD card!
Things like BlueIris seems to be able to handle the audio but i suspect the work is done in the BlueIris software, not the camera.
A 3 Mega pixel UHD Security camera (2304*1296 resolution at ~15fps ) with motion detection, IR Night Vision with Floodlights, 2 way audio, Cloud or local storage for currently under $50 has to be a good deal right, well there are some small caveats,
    1. It is targeted for cloud based needing a paid subscription but you can use it locally only if you know how :)
    2. you need an online account to setup the camera (Mobile App)
if you want one for yourself

I got two of these a few days back and so far I like them. The picture is way better than my old Sricams ( 4 year old tanks, trusty and rusty!) The night vision is like daytime, love it. I have only one issue , the wifi kept dropping yesterday like crazy. I am going to investigate the antennae on it. It may have something to do with cars parked btwn the router and the camera but that was never a problem with the old Sricams. Ill update more later, but so far I really like this cam. Oh yeah, screw the app. I used it to set everything up and then deleted it. I use ipsy and had no issue at all setting this up as an ONVIF.

This camera is down to $28 but I can't find concise information if it works as an IP camera or RTSP. I prefer using TinyCam Pro and would have taken the camera apart to try and replace the lens with an aftermarket variable zoom lens but alas, no information on lens mount size either.

I bought this camera based on this video, expecting it would work with Blue Iris and other IP cam programs -- but, I cannot get it to stream for more than a few seconds at a time, on Blue Iris, Ispy, Contacam, etc. That is if I can connect to the camera at all. When it does stream it's usually very distorted.
I think I read somewhere that this cam uses an older version of the Onvif protocol that is no longer supported -- something like that?
I see SARGE says it was no problem setting up on Ispy -- could you give any advice on how you did it ? Any advice from anyone ? Maybe I just got a bad one or something (it works well with the Heimvision app though) -- but seems like from what I've read plenty of others have had trouble using this cam with other IP cam programs.

I ran Blue-Iris demo for a few weeks then bought it as it was working great with these cameras, you are correct that there not using the latest ONVIF etc but they do work, I have mine running 24x7 with little to no issues and one is connected via wifi one via ethernet. I have a lot of WIFI devices so I do get the occasional drop n frame rate but it always picks right back up. when searching in blue iris I ended up with an http address, generic/onvif make, RTSP H.264/H.265 ... model, main stream set to /0/av0, media port on 554, discovery on 80. I cant remember if it fully auto discovered it but I am pretty sure it did. you can also try put in the IP address if you know it and then search on just that IP address. Oh, remember to also set the admin user to admin in blueiris.
I also tried VLC Media player with no problems using this URL "rtsp://192.168.1.135:554/mpeg4/1/media.amp", change the ip for your own camera of course.

Thanks for the response. I think my main problem was I was using a couple of older wifi routers -- I bought a newer one with high-gain antennas and things are about 90% better . I have thick aluminum siding on the side of my house, so I'm thinking that must attenuate the signals quite a bit, thus requiring better wifi . Also, I isolated the IP cams onto the 2.4 Ghz network while running everything else on the 5GHz.
Unfortunately my Blue Iris trial expired right as I was ready to try using it with the new router setup (just my luck). Might see if I can find some way to extend the trial, as I don't want to spend money on something I'm not sure will work.

We’re you ever able to find out from heimvision if you can use 3rd party to control intercom, lights, etc? I’m trying to use my hm311 with my hm241 nvr and don’t want both apps.

Heimvision is full of backdoors and security exploits. I suspect this camera is as well. I recommend gaining access to the root shell and disabling network access outside the LAN. Amazon has removed Heimvision from it's offerings. Coincidentally this occured shortly after I sent them a writeup of my findings.

can you provide further info on this, I suspected there may be issues but at the time could not find more info. I dont like cameras that MUST use the cloud to even get started and am now looking at reolink , not too expensive and you can do so much without setting up the cloud . I recently tried Heimvision support and was not impressed

Not impressed a little bit with this product. Lousy printed instructions, not a ton of tutorials out there either
