  • In this episode, I'm shooting with a classic mirrorless camera, the Panasonic Lumix GF1. The GF1 was my very first mirrorless camera, and in this episode of Street Photo Diary, I look at how this early Micro 43 Camera performs for Street Photography in 2020.
Street Photo Diary is back! After a long hiatus, I’m back with a brand new episode of “Street Photo Diary”. Sorry about the wait!

Commenting on CZcams is certainly a PITA. Just an observation. What I went through this drill for is to suggest that you try using a Hoodman Loupe when using cameras without viewfinders. I have Lumix Gf1, GF2 & GX1 and use the Hoodman Loupe which makes them all like having large viewfinders. Just a suggestion from a senior 5th gen. Irish American.

I'm glad I kept my GF1. I was looking through my old photos and they really look like film straight out of the camera, it's so nice. Much better than most of the newer cameras I have now.

What do you think is a good price for one of these? I'm thinking of getting one for around $200.

@@emmemmemm2360 You can usually get the body for around $100 or less, but the original 20mm F1.7 lens still goes for around $150, I believe.

@@migo-migo9503 The one I'm looking at comes with an EVF, lens, and all the accessories including box so I'm definitely gonna go for it.

I agree, they look really film-like out of the camera. So far, I can't reproduce the look on any other MFT

I’m glad I pick mine up off the shelf and and dusted it off. I bought my new in 2010 and never shot in JPEG because everyone told me I needed to shoot raw. This one really quelled my Fujifilm desires because it’s straight out of camera jpegs are beautiful. very film like, and hard to achieve with newer cameras, unless you have a Fujifilm, or want to go through raw postprocessing- but who has time for that for basic every day camera shots?

    GF1 with 20mm / F1.7 lens is a lightweight, compact, high-quality mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera.
But, the EVF is disproportionately sturdy and spoils its nice look.

Great video. My 2nd GF1 is on the way. I love the film-look coming out of the GF1 SooC photos. You've gained a subscriber :)

Gf1 produces much better skin tones than other newer m43 models including G9. Gf1 has very bad noise performance and dynamic range. But it is a very good camera for portraits if u know what u are doing. I always use it with my A73 and most of the time my clients prefer the portrait from gf1.

Thanks - I appreciate it - I actually stopped because of covid - for lots of reasons - but I’m hoping to get back to it soon. I’ve been doing a bit of practicing to get back into the hang of it. So hopefully street photo diary will return shortly!

I have both the GF1 and the GX1 and they tend to go everywhere with me. I use the sigma 19 mm on one and the g x vario 14_42 on the other. Ideal for street photography.

Splendid video and camera. I bought my first one in 2009, after some hard work I bought
a NEW second one in 2018. Both are used today in BW. the old with 20mm and the new
one with 14 mm Lumix lens. Lovely camera, Regards Ulf

Thomas, just watched your video on using Lightroom and Capture One on the same project. It looks your workflow might be helpful but I have a question... What I'm wondering is about what happens when you drag the image folder into Capture One. Does Capture One see it as a new catalog or a new session? I had no problem moving an image folder into Capture One. But when I tried dragging another one it did not open. I'm wondering what's going on.

Attach some vintage lens on it, like my helios 44m 58mm or a vivitar 28mm f 2.8, very cheap, very good images and very very challenging with the manual focus and nothing to help you in the software.

Yes, standard, nature, smooth, nostalgia, vibrant, a few different, black-and-white modes, etc. basically all the JPEG settings or film like straight out of the camera. You can also adjust contrast sharpness and saturation.
