- During Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2023, Frost Giant Studios shared this development update on its upcoming real-time strategy game, Stormgate, featuring a first look at units from the Infernal Host faction -- the Imp, the Brute, and the Fiend -- as well as Shroud, the Infernals' faction-defining mechanic.
The update also revealed that Frost Giant is working with the Chainsmokers to create an epic soundtrack as well as iconic voice talent from RTS history.

Given how the first faction is like Starcraft Terrans (blue) and another one is Diablo Demons (red), it would be fun if the third faction was Warcraft Elves (green).

As I can't review balance I'm just going to say that the death split feature is intreaguing and I'm very happy at the artstyle here too. The 'tadpoles' are spumpulously spunky and I'm very curious about the angry swarm host with a backpack. Also, as sketchy as I think big general army boosting auras are, the animation of units moving through the shroud looks very satisfying and clean.
Who else got excited for the music! I loved the rock themes of Command and Conquer!

Out of all the composers in America, you got the Chainsmokers to do the soundtrack? I don't know; it feels a little weird.
They're advising us on the soundtrack, not creating it--our audio director is Alexander Brandon and our composers include folks like Tracy W. Bush and Frank Klepacki!

EDIT: I do think the face of the demon at the end of the video is a little too juvenile perhaps, it lacks the mean mofo / gross feeling of the race.
Especially since it's mentioned: "They will do anything to win, even sacrificing themselves to emerge victorious"
Well, I don't want just body-horror demons like the undead from WC3. Whatever it is, I trust Frost Giant to make it something NEW.

My comment doesn't imply full body horror. And I don't dislike the style. Again I'm super excited and this is all alpha which is subject to change.

I thought there would be a pre-alpha in July, so I'm expecting to see some gameplay on twitch or youtube, but I haven't seen anything yet.
I've been a player of both wc3 and sc2, so this game has captured my curiosity and I would like to know when will start the beta.
Alpha testing is going on now, but it's not available yet for streaming. We're working on the game and more gameplay footage will be coming later this year!

@@stefanomarica7888 The start of the beta will also still be under NDA and we still don't know if they will ever lift the NDA during the beta, so I fear that for streams you probably still have to wait quite a while.

The devs have said "there will be more than 2" but whether that means 3 or 4 or 5 or 12, we don't know yet!

Oh yes. The GROX Workers! Hell ye that is a very good starting point. In fact having the best workers design possible is the main attraction of the gameplay, because every player starts with them for the first couple minutes of the gameplay. Their looks deliver, but let.s see how the animations do.
Also... field of dark magic looks specifically close to the ohsoknown Zerg creep. It is a cool thing as a design feature, but gets hella repetitive through recent RTS designs. Hope it won´t be just another zerg creep.

To be honest, I'm more hyped by ZeroSpace. Stormgate is going in a direction that I really don't like, it looks way more like Warcraft than Starcraft and that's not a positive for me. That fat dude that explodes looks like a troll and it's really really ugly, not something I look forward to use. It's not my style at all, I'll keep watching, but coming from SC2, this game looks like the opposite of what I want. :(
I prefer ZeroSpace because that one seems more like WC3, I guess, we have the opposite reasons to like ZS.

I really wish the art style wasn't so bad. The units look like plushies not monsters.
The fact that the art style is not of your taste doesn't mean that it's bad. It's not my favourite style either but It's easy to see how good the quality is
I understand your opinion and feel somewhat the same way, someone said they look like they're made from rubber, and yes, the close-ups look like that. I also thought they were a bit low on the polygon count. That said I think a unit model should have some volume to be more easily recognisable from the top-down view, and maybe more complex models can be enabled through graphics settings, but they cannot be too skinny and complex because the intelligibility of larger fights would suffer. (remember warcraft 3 reforged?)

Love the fact that you're letting the bad guys look "bad" in a good way. The original warcraft orcs were pretty evil looking but then got hit by the "well i guess they can be good guys too" hammer.

They look like a bit of everything Blizzard. I reeaaally hope the races gonna have their own identity. Happy they're trying to be faithful to their fans, but most of us are happy to see new stuff and not nostalgic throwbacks. At least I do, otherwise it won't be nearly as epic as their previous titles.
