LOL. So funny man, I had an 86 CR500 that was set up for Hill climb and I put the stock rear end back on and rode trails on it for 5 years. Hands down the fastest damn trail bike I've ever had.
mld In terms of suspension, chassis, an braking, there is no comparison between 80s machines and those of today. However, with less than 8 to 1 compression, a long silencer, a relatively low peak rpm, and no power valve, a 1985 Honda CR500 made 62-63 hp. It was not until the past couple of years that the 450 four strokes managed to create that same 63 hp. The difference is, they need 12.5-13:1+ compression, big valves and overhead cam(s), aggressive tuning, and 9,500-10,000+ rpm to make that power. The old dinosaur CR500 engine makes its power without much stress. I think that if Honda still made two strokes today, there would be nothing that could touch one.
@@GyroPyro121212 and whack ass F1 valve train. And when the heads valves and Piston wear out it's a $3500-4500 rebuild. The CR is 300 max including the bore. Great Video! I grew up in the big city of Wales next town over from Monson. Only thing missing here is the real perspective of that hill. That last rip to the top is almost vertical. If you have never been it's an awesome ride out to Monson to see this. Great to see the club is still going.
My uncles have been racing 4 x 4 sand rails there for over 20 years and that hill has definitely shrunk over the years. We used to take a 12er & an eighth just to walk to the top
Some of my best memories, being a young kid in the 70's, was going camping and dirtbike riding, with my parents, grandparents, and uncle, in the late 70's, and very early 80's.
