The price has incrementally gone up as well as the features - kind of makes sense. This is true to the entire wireless headphone market. Not sure why you’re not making the connection between these things you say are “nice” additions but some how don’t expect the price to change. The charge time is disappointing, would have preferred to see an increase there but I’d assume the noise cancellation feature accounts for some of this decreased battery performance. If you asked me if I make the trade of 30 min per charge for the benefit of noise cancellation I’d say “hell yeah!” Perhaps check out Sony’s WF-1000XM3 Wireless Noise-Canceling Headphones ($229.99). In comparison, I’d guess AirPod Pros with it’s undoubted seamless integration with other Apple devices makes the extra $20 you “overpay” for them worth it.

iPhone XS , 256 GB cost $1149 when it was new. iPhone 11 Pro, 256 GB, costs $1149, and iPhone 11 Pro is an upgrade from iPhone XS. So, even with Apple, not all upgrades have to come at a price increase, and even if they were to come at a price increase, it doesn't have to be a more than 25% price increase (if you compare AirPods with the wireless charging case priced at $199, to the AirPods Pro at $249), and it doesn't have to be a more than 56% price increase (comparing the regular now "older" AirPods with the regular charging case priced at $159, to the AirPods Pro priced at $249.) I use Apple products, have done so for years, and I will probably continue to do so, but when I see something that doesn't make sense, like these AirPods Pro being overpriced, which I still think they are, I will sometimes point things like this out.

SPOTLIGHT To compare Phones to ear phones is definitely an apples to oranges argument. When Apple launched the iPhone X series it was a huge jump in price from the 8 series. The tech employed was different which impacted production and distribution which drastically impacted cost. The pricing on the 11 series benefited from an infrastructure built in the X series phase, therefore the supposed lack of unwarranted price hike was really savings passed on to the customer as a result of efficiencies built in from the X series.
NO problems with you pointing out the obvious price difference but everything is relative. Not to defend Apple - they don’t need me of course. With every version of the AirPod we’ve seen tech advances - that costs. I think the assumption we tend to make is that these companies have all these technologies and processes and they simple choose when to roll them out. We never assume that new features and form factors add to production costs that have to be accounted for. I have the 1st gen AirPods - they’re great but noise cancellation, “hey Siri”, water resistance, wireless charging and the new form factors (custom fit ear plugs and shorter stem) definitely make them worth $100 more.
But again context - looked at the Beats Pro wireless noise cancelling headphones that uses AirPod 1.5 technology - they’re $249.00. From a comparison vid I understand the Beats Pro are superior to the AirPod 1.5 in sound quality in both music and calls. AirPods Pro will have superior tech to their own tech in the Beats Pro - that’s the price comparison you need to make. Apple is giving you their latest and greatest at the same price their Beats Pro is giving you using Apples old tech. From that perspective - if you wanted the leading tech in noise cancelling wireless earbuds AirPod Pros is the greatest value for your buck
