Italian ergonomics, here in the UK they read it wrong , but it actually makes so much sense. In RHD drive cars fifth gear was just a handspan from the rim of the steering wheel when you could downchange with a flick of the lever, the spring loaded action taking you automatically to the 3rd-4th plane in an instant. I’ve read many motoring road test on Italian cars from the 1960/1970s , few recognised this fact,although I do recall our local paper The Kidderminster Shuttle both highlighting as well as enjoying this in a 1977 Fiat 132 2 litre.
I make that sound when I change gear as well
