  • Can the Panasonic VXF1 (WXF1M / VX1) actually be a good vlogging camera?
    I've shot some side by side comparison video with Panasonic VXF1 ( WXF1M / VX1) Camcorder and my vlogging camera Lumix G85
    This is a supplementary video to the vlog I shot using a Panasonic VXF1:

      But is it the best fucking camera

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh Před 3 lety +1

      @@Mystninja No camera is the “best camera”. Every camera is an assemblage of compromises. The point is, are the compromises going to hinder, or help the needs of the target users. I would argue that for the CZcams creator segment the camera is better suited than most alternatives. The Panasonic G100, for example suits me better purely because of interchangeable lenses and the creative options that opens up, however, for most video work, camcorders are optimised better for video and have better video-centric features. Any camera that has a tiny sensor should be viewed with suspicion, but the Sony AX53 proved that a small sensor camera can be brilliant. The VX1 equals the AX53, but is way cheaper to buy, so I regard it as an excellent choice for small camera video work. However it has an advantage that the AX53 does not have. Because it has no viewfinder, it fits much better on my Zhiyun Crane gimbal. OTOH, if you do stills photography, then the G85 is a better choice. It all depends on what you need a camera for, and it is only when comparing to your needs that you can decide which camera is the “best” for your needs.

      @@artistjoh I have a set up in mind. But have know clue if to would work.
      Camcorder + fisheye + C bracket as handle.
      I've been looking at the HC-vxf1 but that would blow my budget. But would is the most future-proof in my range. But not sure if it will take a fisheye
      My original idea was getting a budget Sony camcorder and glueing a fisheye to it.
      But I can't find the cheap handycams as every where is sold out. And no shops sell video fisheyes.
      And the C bracket is just to use as a handle for case cam in skateborading. And maybe a duct tape a torch to it or microphone. Could duct tape a power bank to the bottom. Only I'll see it so it need to be bling. But the 4k HC-vxf1 has more users the just skating.

      @artistjoh Před 3 lety +1

      @@Mystninja These cameras have filter threads so whatever fits the filter size will attach. Generally 0.7x to 0.43x work best. But the wider you go the greater the loss of quality, especially at the edges. I recommend you go to the Raynox website to see if they make something that suits your needs. As with anything, the less money you pay, the less quality you get. Be aware that weight should always be considered as well as optical stabilisation systems. The two best camcorders for stabilisation are the AX53 and VX1 and they work because of a large amount of lens movement. This means likelihood of vignetting with attached lenses.

      Photo By Richard will do Richard, thanks for the reminder. I tried out GH5 for a while, I loved it but just can’t really justify with the price ($2000 USD here). Plus it’s actually big and heavy, makes it difficult for vlog. I then preorder the A7iii, hope it will be a good hybrid camera, also a good digital body for my leica glasses.

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Před 6 lety

      The A7III seems like a great camera for both video and photo, and the price is just hard to beat. But for vlogging, without the flip out screen, it could be quite difficult.
      I did a vlog with an A9 (didn't publish it in the end) but found that:
      1. the setup is too heavy mostly because the fast full frame lenses are big and heavy.
      2. My composition is completely off because I can't see where the camera is pointing. I really have to add an external monitor if I vlog with an A9 or A7 but that would make it even heavier :(
      Having said that, Lok Cheung seems to be ok without the flip out screen with his A7S when we were vlogging together, so maybe it's just that I sux LOL

I think he has the 16-35 G master (huge lens) and he said he just shoot at 16mm and sometime need to reframe in post. He looks like a tall guy so maybe the weight isn’t a big issue to him, but now I do think A7iii might be too heavy for me if I already think GH5 being heavy...
      May I ask what was the lens you vlog with the A9?

    What is wrong with that Panasonic G85? You are comparing a 0,30cm2 camera to a 2,25cm2 camera and the DR on the 8x smaller sensor is much better? How is it possible? It's 1/2,5" sensor vs.m4/3 sensor. O_o

  • @oooeee5419
    @oooeee5419 Před 5 lety

    It's not fair.
    You are filming in auto mode which has a short shutter speed, therefore it becomes excessive light difference.
    The Panasonic hc-vx1 series automatically has longer shutter speed in manual mode.
    Try again, select automatically longer shutter speed, also select intelligent contrast. Changing the metering method to AGS
    Tell us how was the result?

    Great comparison video. Don't know about colours, VXF-1 seems too much toned down colors, but G85 have too blue colours, could you try it like vivid colours or something like that? OIS seem to be very good as always in Panasonic camcorders. I am maybe going to upgrade my HC-V700, but after seeing this it doesn't seem like upgrade to me, don't know is it better than not. How about sound, could you test it also? @TheRealRichardWong  Před 6 lety +8

      yes exactly. But this works both way. For people who want to have a very simple setup and don't want to carry a bag of lens and accessories, this is better and it has a pretty wide zoom range. But if you want good image quality, shallow depth of field..etc, the bigger m43 sensor with some nice lenses is better option

    • @electricdreams8237
      @electricdreams8237 Před 5 lety +1

      If you have the time and willingness to fiddle with your gear to get that extra 5% out of it then DSLRs are better. If you want to just film the damn thing and to have it look decent enough for post then camcorders are better.
      If you shoot a little footage but want it to look the best then DSLRs are better. If you shoot a lot of footage and don't have the luxury to spend time setting each shot individually then camcorders are better.
      If you can afford "rigging" your little spider web each time you have to start filming, then DSLRs are better. If you just want to whip the thing out of the bag and shoot from the hip then camcorders are better.
      In short, if you are a professional then a dedicated piece of equipment designed ground-up for that particular job is always going to be "better". DSLRs are a cheap way to get really top videography features like interchangeable lens, but this comes at a price - and that is that this piece of equipment is not really built for what you are using it for, it's not practical and practicality is premium when you do professional work. There are dedicated video cameras with interchangeable motion video lens but they are 10x as expensive, both body and lens, than the most expensive photography equipment. Again, DSLRs are not "high end" videography, they are a cheap and nasty way to emulate high end videography.
      Oh and btw, with the rise of all those independent youtube creators I sense the coming of a big camcorder comeback...

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh Před 4 lety +1

      Barry Maskell Some people don’t see it as a limitation. The camcorder lens is optimised for the camera and is generally sharper and more versatile than most interchangeable lenses. Even more importantly, due to body integration it makes for a smaller and lighter body/lens combination, especially at the telephoto end. However, those who don’t use camcorders for a living often fail to understand that we commonly use both wide angle and tele lens converters, which ends up being kind of like using an interchangeable lens camera. Really good wide converters are expensive but don’t suffer from the aberration issues that cheap ones do. I use 16x9 brand wide converters.

      @@jamielloyd8396 I'm a professional videographer. I don't have a lot of time or latitude for mistakes or even shot-to-shot breaks on the shoot. On the other hand I have all the time (and power) in the world in post. And no, I don't do weddings - I'm talking professional industrial and corporate video as well as commericals. I sometimes wonder if people have any conception of how much an hour of shooting with 20+ people on the set costs? For me a DSLR is hell on a tripod... I waste valuable time on fiddling with a piece of gear which is not built for what it's being used for. Give me a real camcorder with decent manual controls (preferably big chunky mechanical buttons and switches) and a generous bitrate over a DSLR 90% of the time.
