  • Today We're riding Tunnel Ridge in Rochester Vermont. This trail was just built by LD Trailworks and has 110 Berms throughout the whole length. Tunnel Ridge is actually part of the Velomont trail project which is similar to the Long Hiking Trail or Catamount Nordic Trail that when completed will start in Southern VT and meander the Green Mountain range all the way to Stowe VT.

    I like how Phil doesn't just blow people off and gives thoughtful and insightful responses. And I know he's talked about how he's self-conscious when speaking, but I've watched him from the vet beginning, and his pronunciation and especially articulation have improved dramatically, especially over the last year or so. Not that I mind, but I know Phil does so hopefully he sees this.

    Really nice trails system. I have to check it out. This past Weekend, I rode Ascutney (I was there for the Gnar Weasels race). From the mountain, there is a trail called Norcross. If you take it to the left, it goes into Brownsville and continues on for a long ways. The trails are amazing. Flowey and rough with exposure, rocks, roots and great berms and wooden features in places. When you finally start going downhilll, the trail turns into Swoops and Loops. That part is incredible. Narrow, flowey and alot of quick turns, rollers like you just ridden and great berms.

    Wondering where your preference, as a high level rider and builder, lies on the scale of tech to flow, hand built vs machine. Before flow trails were a thing, describing a trail as flowy was high praise. Now that flow trails are becoming more common, some riders complain that although the never ending pump track idea is fun, the experience from one trail to the next is too similar. I appreciate how flow trails can make the most of the given vertical, they can be ridden by all ability levels and are as much fun on a hardtail as fs. Here in gold country in Northern California many of the newer trails are built like this because machine building is faster and the mellow grade is easier to get approved by the Forest Service. My main complaint here is that once the moisture in the dirt is gone(4-5 months of the year), the trails get blown out rather quickly. There are a lot of features such as doubles coming out of a berm that aren't doable once the berms are full of bomb holes. On the East coast this is probably less of an issue since you get year round precipitation and can repack the trail easier.

    • @incredible5587
      @incredible5587 Před 2 lety

      you are allowed to pick and choose the trails you ride no ones making you ride one or the other. push comes to shove if people are complaining about flow trails being wiped cause of it being dry for 5 months where the only place that would happen is desert.
