  • We spoke to Dan from Rhodes, who introduced the V8 Pro, the first official Rhodes software that encompasses a deeply sampled and modeled Mark 8. The V8 Pro engine is running 30,000 samples with up to 127 laser guided velocities per note, resulting in an unprecedented depth. The UI has been designed by Axel Hartman and the front panel is a blown-up version of the Walnut Market.
Rhodes has gone to great lengths to create super-authentic software that feels like a real instrument. The V8 Pro also includes a V8, a lower-priced model with a more limited feature set.
The V8 Pro has modeled analog effects from the Mark 8, including a resonant mid-range EQ and a unique varipan circuit that stands for variable panning, giving you all the classic panning sounds, just like the Mark 8. The V8 Pro also has different wave shapes for the panning to achieve different feels.
Rhodes has added sync buttons for all the time-based effects, so you can sync to your DAW's internal tempo or incoming midi clock. You can also assign every single control to the midi CC, making it easier to get into the performance with the instrument. More info on the V8 Pro and the Mark 8 can be found on the Rhodes website.

127 is a bit light... I will wait for a 1023 laser guided velocities per note.

A serious competitor for the Crumar Seven, curious for a A-B comparison

Now stick that in dedicated hardware.

Compared to the sound of the real thing, this sounds really cheap and lifeless. Keyscape is way better that this plug, IMHO.

@@loopmasters2 , it looks so good on paper (and screen). But I have to agree with RJ above--and yes, I did download the Pro version and put it through its paces--and found it wanting for expressiveness. It may have more to do with the limitations of modeling and sampling than anything Rhodes did wrong. And again, this is just my opinion out of thousands of others out there. Plus, on all the Rhodes demos I feel they quickly start swamping the sound in the effects, which are novel, but not what I'm on the Holy Grail search for. I have not had the opportunity to play an actual Mark 8, so I don't know if they sound like this. But I guess I prefer the sound of the '79 Mark 1 Suitcase I played for 20 years.

@@loopmasters2 I did. And I compared with Keyscape. There is something missing. Maybe how the samples were recorded. Maybe the velocity levels. It has no soul like the real thing, which I've had the honor to play on in 2000. Amazing. A 1970s Suitcase with Amp Rhodes. Everything you played sounded incredible. This plugin is a joke compared to that experience. Keyscape gets sooo much closer.

@@poldidak Just read this comment after I posted my reply to above comments. Bang on. The expressiveness is dead in the plugin. I've used all the Rhodes on Keyscape. Some are amazing and Andertons CZcams channel did a blind test recently and a pro keyboardist, and he couldn't tell the difference between the new Rhodes and Keyscape in 2 or 3 instances. This was before the plugin came out.

@@RJ1J Where's your detailed comparison test? If you are going to make such strong statements, then at least show a valid test or proper context.

What do you mean 'wanting for expressiveness'? This plugin is super expressive from the lightest touch to the hardest hit- I can dial in any era of Rhodes authentically.

Love the Sounds of The Plugin but it takes up the entire screen it is way too big for the Screen & the size it reduces to is still too big!
It doesn’t need to be so big it seems like it was only designed & tested on massive screens no 14 inch screen laptops 🧑‍💻
The Sounds are Beautiful and is my favourite of All I own in plugin form just the Size is unfriendly for small screens!
The resize is still massive & not small the size it reduces to should have been the starting size that could be reduced or expanded!
But it starts extra large & reduces to large that is not good for smaller screen users it should be reduced more to benefit users of small screens!
The only time it benefits to be as big as it is is for the editing & configuration of the tuning & hammers this is not all the time so it should switch when in that mode otherwise the size should be smaller no need to waste so much space it is digital so the size can be smaller the layout can be reduced to fit!
The green background is proof of the size being wasted space I only have this complaint of the Size otherwise I love the Rhodes V8 Pro plugin!
