Culture shock is real out there maybe we are not ready,my culture shock outside South Africa is Lack of order like stand a que,rona re re re ema line.QUE IS OUR CULTURE THAT I AM SO PROUD OF HOPE IT GET SPREAD LIKE A VIRUS TO OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES.QUE MAKES LIFE EASY BATHONG!!WE QUE FOR EVERYTHING IN SOUTH AFRICA EVEN IN OUR PUBLIC TOILETS,FUNERALS,PUBLIC TRANSPORT WITHOUT ANYONE INSTRUCTING OR EMPHASISING AND THAT IS WHAT MAKES ORDER IN SOUTH AFRICA.May we are last on the que to travel or live in other countries LOL.Nice video sis

      You are right. I have not traveled extensively across Africa so I can't comment on that but one thing for sure is... Compared to where I am coming from the orderliness in SA is beyond me and this was a huge culture shock for me. I love order in my life, I like being tidy, and I am always early, I'm never late. So I adapted the queue culture asap.
      For the work migration, the people who move back home are not always sick, they just come back to be around family and enjoy the country they have left for so long. They become based in 9ja, and from there they manage your businesses, travel the world, and live a very decent life. Thanks for watching. Please like, subscribe and check out my other videos🙏🏽🥰

  • @marcusmo4863
    @marcusmo4863 Před rokem +15

    I enjoyed your views and observation on South Africa as non-South African. To answer your first question: There are three main 3 reasons:
    #1) South Africa is 50% 1st world country and 50% 3rd world country. Most black SAs still feel that there are still some opportunities in the country to uplift themselves hence most do not wish to relocate else where. The ones that leave for abroad tend to be very high skilled and are able to go for job opportunities that have high salaries that corporate South Africa cannot match because of the exchange rate. The average skilled people tend to be happy staying at home.
    #2) The social lifestyle is very addictive - South Africans love going to clubs, churches and family social gatherings like wedding and funerals as a group friends or families. Going abroad for most SAs means you are going to miss some of these activities/events because you are going to be working most of the time and you are going to be alone.
    #3) The lack of exposure - Most SAs are not exposed to the international world. We tend to be closed in our own little world and not willing to learn and explore what the rest of the world has to offer.

    • @Prizzygat
      @Prizzygat  Před rokem +2

      Omg! You explained it beautifully. I love your analysis of the first question, it all makes sense now because as an immigrant you sacrifice social life and family bond to relocate. It can be very daunting😫 who would wanna sacrifice amaipano and shishayama for a cold place like Russia... No disrespect intended for Russia😬 The Social life here is on another level, the nightlife is sick as well but I guess if the benefits of relocation outweigh the enjoyment at home, one will have to suck it up and do the needful.

      I agree with 1&2 but 3 is not absolutely due to lack of exposure. We have a lot of South Africans who leave the country but come back after a few years coz we believe in fixing/ building our country. There is also that belief that even if you have challenges it's better to be amongst your own people than going to live alone outside. Most people do travel for vacation so they can see that there isn't really anything better out there that's why very few emigrate.

    Hi Prizzy. We believe in fixing our beloved country and hold our representantives accountable, that´s why we have democracy, right? Of course we should travel more for exposure, and everyone is individual. However, is not easy, SA is the real deal as most ppl from around hte globe, not just Africans, confirm it.
    Nigerians leave their country for greener pastures as you say, but why? The truth is you either don´t believe that the country can be fixed (and many Nigerians and other Africans I talk to say exactly that) or you want exposure, make lots of money. Honest is important for us africans in order to fix our many problems. Chinese, Lebanise, Indians are flocking Nigeria and West Africa like they is gold for free (so it can´t be what you just say). All africans must stop cheap excuses, we need a hard look on ourselves, values, and the value the continent brings and fight for eat with our talents, ressources, passion, and companionship.
    Now to the other things, when I´m here in Europe so funny many Africans say I dance well, sing well, and always a joy to be around. Before I came here, I thought all africans/black ppl are like us (dead wrong:).
    The booze is too much, it was partly an Arpatheid weapon against us like poor education (but again now its our own fault, myself have dramatically reduced it and you don´t need to adopt bad SA habits, we also can learn from others, responsibility is the new black for Africans).
    Why we have great skins (non-SA women have told me as an SA man that too;)? I don´t know maybe diet / weather I guess (so you are winning, take your time:) .
    On langauge, well it´s one of our prides and comes naturally. When we approach a native South African looking lady with our native tongue, it´s a compliment first and formost you blend in, so we want you in not out, never forget that!
    Yes, the assumption turns to be wrong eventually, but give us a break as we should on you once we learn you are a non-native. However, I will tell you that anyone should try to learn the language of the dominant culture/region she/he finds himself in. If I live in Igboland I have to eventually at least try to speak it (you went to university so you are smart:).
    I find it even offensive not to, unless you are here for a short work stay. Most SA who come from another province always try to learn the language form that place (only ppl form Guateng are truly multilinguists up to 7+ languages), the rest learn along, so I advice you, even if your parents admittingly didn´t do a great foundational job (forgive them, and do your best to learn your native lingo AND Xhosa/Africans). It will enrich you, though challenging at first.
    Lastly, make SA friends, I don´t see a reason why not such a fun and sincere sister you are! Many non-SA make the mistake to stay within their own, then find themselves misunderstanding constantly whats going on and the leaving in a bubble is not healthy. The fact that up to this day many white SA don´t actually know the country/cutlure/contintent and call themselves "South Africans" though (never been to the townships, village, zero Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho etc, is a crime of their own (just like the booze with us native Africans of the country).
    SA is complex, colorful, promising and we have just embarked on a new journey since 1994. It´s along way to go to fulfill our full potential, but as you see everyday we have everything to get there, and come with us, if you have your heart in it. It´s all about ubuntu at the end of the day for us!
    I´ve subscribed and let me know anything you want to, I beg ohhh:)

    Your last question, that is a diss/disrespect symbol. It's usually accompanied by a facial expression. As a Zulu man and traditionalist, we do go around and expect people not to look us in the eye. This practice is done at my house where a child or my juniors aren't allowed to look me in the eye when I'm talking to them, and yes, it also applies to women. However, these days, things have become lenient. I for one like to be looked in the eye when I talk to a person, even at home. If you visit a Zulu household and a male elder is still present, it's best that you don't look them in the eye, unless they give you permission to. As for singing, we start singing and dancing from a very young age. South Africans even sing and dance when we are angry. To be able to dance, you must follow the beat of the song which will allow you to follow a dance routine. Finally, language to a South African is very important, it is the very essence that makes us to accept you or reject you. In ZKN, the little you can utter, the better your chances of getting accepted, and even walk away with a new Zulu name. Zulus expect you to make an effort or get out. I hope that my comment answers some of your questions.

    • @Prizzygat
      @Prizzygat  Před rokem +1

      😳Waooo! Thank you so much. I have learned so much from your comment. I'm gonna pin it. Never meant to disrespect anyone with the last question. It's just something I have noticed across most SAn content creators. I was so curious, that's why I asked.
      For the Zulu and no eye contact question, I remember my grandpa used to tell me that back then in Nigeria, you don't look into the eyes of an elder when talking to them. But that culture has completely faded away in the region where I come from in Nigeria. Now we teach kids to look into the eyes of anybody they are talking to, we are trying to build confidence in them because it is believed that a child who can't look into the eyes of his/her parents or relatives when talking to them may grow up and have self-confidence issues and nobody wants that for their kids, especially in this world of today.

    I have watched many nigerian videos n I came to a conclusion that nigerians never tell the truth, they don't wanna hear the truth period. Nigerians do travel because their country will force u to travel, not because they travel by choice, I went to Nigeria in 2017 to church (SCOAN), getting off from the plane ull understand why nigerians travel, u lose hope by mere looking around. In south africa we discourage braindrain with all the forces in our command. So tell the truth ur country is poor n dying n yet has the highest GDP, strange hehh??? Figure that out. When r u making a video about nigerians who are crossing Libya 🇱🇾 every day to reach Spain?

    • @Prizzygat
      @Prizzygat  Před rokem

      It's amazing how you could come up with this conclusion about Nigeria just from one visit to SCOAN in 2017. Nigeria has 36 states. SCOAN is in just one state which is Lagos state. SCOAN is not even in the affluent part of Lagos but in the lower middle-class area of Lagos, you know the part you guys call township or the low budget part of a city. Yes, Nigeria as a country have it's struggles with bad leadership just like every one of the 54 countries in Africa. We as Africans should be looking for innovative ways to make our continent great again. As for Nigerians, we travel to go get world-class experience and financial freedom. Yes, we bring it back to our country. So for now it's a win-win if you ask me... When life serves you lemons, you make lemonade. We don't drown in our problems, we look for innovative ways to work through them🎯
      For your last question... I will make a video about Nigerians crossing Libya to Spain after you make a video about gender-based violence/femicide eating your women and children. Those who live in glass houses don't throw stones📌

      @@Prizzygat Sis with respect, Nigerians are the most intelligent people in Africa but their biggest flaw is their opportunistic and sometimes to quick to compromise their morals. I know you would be quick to defend your kind but the truth is most south africans have a negative mindset towards Nigerians obviously that defers person to person but overall nigerians have disrespected our country so many times in ways South Africans have never done and will never do to Nigeria, it's just that we are all Africans at the end of the day so the soft spot always kicks in. If you have a voice just ask nigerians to behave themselves I'm not saying all them are bad the way things are going one day things will be very bad. For instance look at the relationship we have with Zimbabweans they are on their way out of the country it's sad honestly. Lesotho also moving towards that direction. Why is it that we don't have issues with Zambians, Malawians etc. People need to respect South Africa as much as they respct their homes. That's all we are asking for.

I am Swati and I have been living in South Africa for years trust me a alot of different tribes work at a garage.

    South Africans don't have such history of moving out of the country for work. This is mainly due to being kept for long inside the country during apartheid. The 2nd reason is work availabilty, which was not very bad, until in recent years. The new generation might start travelling for work in the near future, if such opportunities arise, unemployment is ever increasing. Relatively low population and several mojor cities that r developed with infrastructure, keep people grounded. Social welfare here for children and the elderly keeps poverty at a distance, that doesn't mean people dont struggle, but can survive. That is why low skilled people here dont even move to the neighbouring contries if they are unemployed. Lastly, South Africans are generally are not interested in staying elsewhere, the local culture, languages and life style are too strong. The government is stable, it provides a lot of services and support to its population. It also listens to its population, and there are widespread freedoms, including free speach here. What is needed in my opinion is entrepreneurship, and this we can learn from countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, USA, etc. where people dont only depend on being employed by big companies or government. I think we must learn how people in other countries do it. We must also limit population growth rate here, to avoid population demand for work and resources. Obviously all countries must manage illegal immigration, which increases informality of living in cities, as well as other socio economic problems it creates. There are just too many low skilled, illegal immigrants in here, with no firmal work nor places to stay.

    Lmao😂😂
    To your third question.
    You said almost every S. African can ( how i wish i could sing😂).
    It is part of the S.A culture, we do this from the early ages. In some parts of the country you'd find a pre-school kid singing so well that you'd think it's someone your age incarnated... Even in Primary school, we meet at the assembly and sing and do all those things, i think that's how we find ourselves. If you may "GOOGLE" 😂 GWIJO on CZcams or Google you'll find your answers( that's what almost every school does i think).
    As to our skin conditions, i believe it's because of our weather conditions. In most provinces, the weather is cool( warm) some it's cold whereas some its too hot and you'll notice most people from Durban are a bit different from those in Cape Town (skin texture) and also different from people in Limpopo.
    3rd Q.
    " why are you at groove" i think that's the main reason why they give you the side eye😂. I mean we all go to groove to have fun and get wasted, cause honestly, you cannot go to a pub and say you don't drink. That's weird.
    Anyways you're amusing 😂❤
