  • I had the opportunity to visit Singapore to discuss modern aquaculture development with colleagues at the National University of Singapore. While visiting I toured a number of fish farms, which included some offshore aquaculture fish farms such as the Eco-Ark, well actually the newest version called the Eco-Spark and traditional cage culture fish farming which are net pen farms. I also visited land based fish farms like Atlas Aquaculture a marine fish farm that uses a recirculating aquaculture system and also an Asian arowana fish farm. I spent much of my time exploring low trophic aquaculture Singapore seafood options. There is a large diversity of aquaculture candidates in Singapore food. While touring Singapore I had the opportunity to attend an ornamental aquarium fish show and watched the judging of koi and betta fish. So many amazing fish on display such as channa (snakeheads), discus, and spectacular goldfish. On my last night I had dinner at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Casino. I had an amazing time.
Be on the look out for my Singapore fish farm tour videos.

Thank you. Professionally I had a different experience being in a country that recognizes the importance of aquaculture as a solution to food security and is moving forward in that direction.

Great video! Given how busy the port is, what kind of protections and security do off-shore farmers have from the government?

That’s a very thought provoking question. I do not know how much protection they get, hard to say but the maritime industry is king!
