Host Shrey Bhargava heads across the causeway to find out the reason for the rising prices. He speaks to fishermen, fishery owners and fish farmers and discovers complex challenges the industry is facing. I remember reading about the President recommending the people to buy prawns if they cannot find fishes
Rent and coe makes everything expensive in Singapore
i believe in the near future, seafood will be a luxury because we humans eat them faster then they could reproduce
Then Farm Fish is dead. Anyway, look at the fish quality and big size. It's top notch quality. Then of course, the fish is expensive
Lies again? Italian Spanish Football Soccer
Also because we love to eat their eggs lawl
No need worry , in the future all seafood from farming .
I believe that waste in the hospitality industry is a blight on all our futures. It is said that travel broadens the mind, but most tourism (and associated hospitality) today is just a longer version of the commute, with set routes and networks with minimal interactions with people of an area. And like any commute, it is time constrained, which means a cost premium on inputs which is asked and handed over. Effectively rewarding the waste that follows. A devastating model for our environment underwritten by us, the tourists, who for better or for worse know no different and are coralled into such trade routes en masse.
I think it depends on the availability. Here in the Phl, fish is the cheaper option especially the canned ones.
Magkano tilapia mo?
Luckily in Sabah, Malaysia fish are cheap. Heaven for those who loves seafood! 🤩😍
because now sabah and sarawak fish not import to semanjung malaysia lagi
@@captainmee3469 import??? 🤣🤣🤣

correction! Sabah is not Malaysia, it is Philippines. know your history my friend
wow so many Malaysian don't have job... but in the Malaysia factory so many foreigners.
They came in with connection. If you take the bus from airport you can see them in groups. In Aeon one day saw them each buying electric cookers. Cheap labour not employing locals too expensive. So called high incomes but they don't even know the loopholes.
Didn't you hear?? the towkays prefers to hire Nepali/Pakistani/Bangladeshi etc than locals because local workers also came with labor law requirements like minimum wage, medical insurance, pension scheme, annual leaves. Foreign workers are cheap and easily exploited.
Hohoho. Sinkieland factory either Malaysian converts or foreigners. That's where they go to.
Go to malaysia to eat fish cheaper than buying it in Singapore. I go to terengganu or Pahang to have a feast of fish once every 2 month with my family.. I already miss the keropok rekor rebus with the local sos..😵
This is another issue that has been around for quite some time. Every country seems to have issues like this. I boggles my mind that the concept of harvesting young fish will ultimately hurt the business.
I know they don't care but in the video you never mentioned anything about a timeline of when fish will be running out at drastic levels. Because it is this reason alone why current boats don't care. The price they can get now before they die is a gain. It's basically a carpe diem attitude.
I really see local governments or national governments laying down rules for the conversation of the resource. Imagine 25-50 years down the line you'll be limited to what you can and cannot eat fish wise not just from it being extremely expensive but because of bans and super controls by new laws etc. Totally not looking forward to that for future generations
Do whatever you can to be self-sustaining. What you start now can be handed down and perfected by the time your great great grandchildren are your age.
20:30 pun intended? ^^
Btw (at the end) threadfin (ngo hu in Hokkien)is considered a delicacy, more expensive than regular fish.
Wait. Singapore is an Island. Why is it importing fish when Singapore is surrounded by water? 50% of fish should be locally caught, depending on fish migration routes.
*are u idiot or what? Singapore's sea area is too small to feed its greedy citizen...*😪
@@johantan5305 fool, fishing is done in open waters.
How Can They Caught When They Only Have Small Maritime Zone And Fir Airspace,They Just Lucky Malaysia Fir Airspace Still Under Their Control If Malaysia Succeed Take It Back From Singapore They F35B Can Only Fly Around Singapore Only
Because not all fish can be caught in the sea, some are only living in rivers etc?
@@victoriaregina8344 Have you seen the Malaysian rivers? Factories known for polluting them. If any fish that can survive, you will turn into mutant if you eat them.
you forgot to mention that more and more Chinese fishing fleet are enormous which is the major cause of fish depletion in the ocean.
Shhhhhhhh!!! the TV network may not want to p*ss off their overlords over in CCP-land...
I think most fishes will be in "farms or tanks" indoors in a multi story building.. Wild Caught fish will be super expensive... We may have to change our diet to eat only fishes that are easy to rear, while fishes like Tuna, Prompfret, Salmon etc will eventually be a something we eat only 2 or 3 times a year..
Don't forget that farmed fish eat fish that is caught in the ocean too. It's sad that farmed fish salmon, etc eat fish food made from fish caught all the way from Africa.
@@ilinez23 farmed fish eat fish feed thrown in by the farmer.
Whatever getting expensive in Singapore, there are Indonesian and Malaysian who take the profit...
then don't eat, buy those expensive & profit taking things.
Malaysia fish 1kg Rm36👎 .. if Singapore is expensive.. Malaysian fish pice like gold already.
That is only "bawal" fish.. "sea bass" cost rm60 over
Fish expensive what about pork. Our in East coast pork$45 per kilo. Big fish $20-$30/- per kilo
@@rosalindwong9609 that is raw from market price.. food stall must be RM100
I wonder how much is KFC meals in Malaysia nowadays
In Bangladesh even cheap fish comes in 210 per kg like $2 porns like $7 to 8 per kilo
Because we import everything, exporters now treat Singapore as a "cow", with plenty of milk !! 😁
Here in Sibu Sarawak miserable small tilapia costs rm18 a kg. Your fish look big-not too expensive considering your income!
For example, the price of chicken may be rising fast, but we can encourage Singaporeans to turn to alternative sources of protein, such as fish.
Fish is more expensive than chicken, idiot.
If u have study, observe and look around, Singaporean is the most unlucky one in enjoying food especially fresh food.Paying the most but getting lousy quality or value. Firstly, although we have strong currency value, our fishes all are imported and become even more expensive for us over nothing but exchg rare only. Even dun compare to Malaysia or Indonesia, with abundance of fresh fish with low low price, Japan the most fresh fish catch n eaten are considered even better than us, own fishing and fish fresh n good n affordable, not forgetting their fishery are cleaned and neater and structured, our is mess.
Then move b there la... Kpkb for b wat
Big boss Gary !.
Details are important..it is to account the inventories..skipping inventories that makes it costly and eventual loss.
Fish prices in Singapore has always been more than 100% more than the same fish you buy in Malaysia.
300%? Currencies exchanged.
@@wannaberedneckprepper7030 AFTER accounting for exchange rates, it's more than double the price of fish in Malaysia.
Wet market dying in Singapore, you have a range of basic to premium NTUCs selling premium price with basic food we eat. Prices will go up every day.
its expensive because everyone wants profit. the market is a crazy place
yup.. its true..
Host: How many boats do you have?
Gary: 40 Overssss
use the unused part of the fish... grind them and feed them to the fish lol
😮 mad fish disease
@@djtan3313 haha nice one, but most mid size and large fishes are carnivores they eat smaller fishes so technically it would work

Petrol hike, this must include those fuel used for logistic via sea or land, perception of GST increase thus company increase prices slowly to not lead to price shock when GST finally increases
if you ask any fisher folk around the parts of asia. they'll tell you the same thing. illegal chinese vessels fishing at an industrial scale with no regulations.
(10:55) You can't feed the fish bugs? I heard in a Ted Talk that bugs are an efficient way of feeding fish.
Because something is FISHY ? Just for laughs lah 😉 😜 😘
Omg the way the illegal fisherman catch, left no other fish to breed.
Thats horrible!!!! What will be left??!
Greed. Pure greed.
And the ones that does the catch is just trying to survive.the top ring leader is to be blame..
Fish expensive
Fisherman still poor
The soaring crude oil price might be the culprit of high food prices. Go green energy or deplete crude oil first, it's a catch-22 issue!
This is what happened when a country over relied on others for its seafood supply. In Singapore Guess hardly any of its kiasu citizens will choose being a fisherman as an occupation.
I just came here to see him hug a fish.
Ask LKIM...Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia.. 'artifical feeds' no wonder the fish meat does not taste sweet good.
Expensive but it's so tasty and nutritious
-good luck singaporeans ..
Prices on foods products will going up and up,and wouldn’t coming down at all
It sounds like too many things are contributing fish price increase, too much to tackle. However, economy is human activity, indicating that the authority intentionally ease the control of the money flow. Who are benefitting from high prices? What you get is what you wanted.
We allowed foreign fishing boat to catch and export our fish making it expensive. We cannot see what is in the sea but we feel the consequences.
Its totally unsustainable overfishing. The rest are just extra reasons.
No more fish in the sea lar
Raymond resembles Jay Chou with no hair
Gary Ko " Costs increased 30%" " Profits dropped by 30%" LOL 🤣😂
X currency exchanged
That why Malaysia will effect the life of Singapore peoples
That's why in 1965 'separated' Singapore's Chinese educated have been making money by selling Malaysia 'goods & produce' till today "macam dia punya suka' jadinya ' Kacang Lupakan Kulit' Wawasan 2020...habis!
Not only fish. Everything has risen except our salary hahaha.
Despite the odds, Singapore has to be at least half self sufficient in most food categories in order for costs to come down and stability to step in.
Fisherman's should only take what they need from the ocean...clearly this is not what's happening, and before you know it the ocean's will become like the land barren and bare.
Did Malaysia have seas or Malaysia catched of Indonesia's sea, it called illegal fishing cause the territorial of Malaysia is smaller than Indonesia. Malaysia territorial is a little bigger than Singapur
Everything is expensive..
Come to Ipoh. Fish cheap here

Malaysia diesel's price is 2.15 per liter today. Your figure is distorted. At least something that I know.
All illegal fishing vessels need to be sunk on the spot, period!
Where r our marine police n what r they doing, jst don't understand n heard that Chinese large fishing trawlers r doing illegal fishing ..
Inflation is good for business in short all can charge higher prices.
Feeding human food to fish in farms and later human eating fish. This is silly. Humans through out ate what they could get where they lived. Why does everyone want to eat food their ancestors didn’t eat?
Will we come to a day when million of dollars can’t even buy u a glass of clean water . We consuming the earth resources like it’s infinity
Take a peak in our neighborhood water, who is coming, claiming & fishing in mass with hundreds of vessels, armed & guarded....
Who knows how much wk goes into this operations 🇹🇹
put fines on illegal fishing is useless, destroy the boats!
So this video are they conditioning us to expect higher prices? 😁The later part of the video mentioned that foreign boats illegally trawl in malaysia, but in beginning part of video it mention in jurong we allow foreign vessels to unload their catch here. So whether it's legal or illegal fishing boats both have to deal with high costs for fuel like diesel food labor so if they have to spend weeks or months at sea fishing that's going to require high cashflow so to meet this cashflow from time to time when the boat storage holds for fish get full they have to empty it somewhere and when fuel tanks get low they have to refuel somewhere so where do they do it "somewhere" ? 😂😂
Not foreign be specific name it. Its China 🇨🇳 more over tje Chinese over fish all oceans. They're robbers of the ocean

@@jo5128 when this generation gone they left only rock for Malaysial generation to feed on..
At least there are rules for fisheries in Malaysia...rules like net sizes, no go zones for trawling and catch monitoring at port. We are way better regulated than the rest of ASEAN.

Singaporeans are rich, it's ok to pay a bit more.
Why is meat so cheap?
Indonesia should have closed its seas to foreign fishing vessels..And U No What I mean😉😁
Make fish farms lah
Ya why? Fishy
Ah inflation.
Fisherman: Illegal trawlers are catching everything and destroying sea beds leaving nothing in future.
The host's closing statement: As much as I like this fish I can eat a different fish in future.
An odd attempt to whitewash over a coming calamity as millions of people go hungry and the oceans are left a barren desert.
Like no.280 👍😀
Who really care so much, eat and worry later.
As long as the item is cheap, it feels good.
As long as the items need to queue to buy, it feels super great.
As long as the item is given free, it feels super super super fantastic.
The cause is too many boat and over catch.
