For this list, we’re taking a look at those singers whose musical work almost completely subsists of this dramatic musical art form. So as powerful of Andrea Bocelli’s voice is, he will not be considered for this list.

Maria Callas wasn't just a human. She was a force of nature.
She was Nature and thus Eternal…..✨
Then you've never met forces of nature!🤣🤣
The great Pavarotti said, "Please do not compare me with Björling, for I am a mere mortal." I think that is enough said!
That's opera speak for "My place at the top is assured. I can afford to bow to my predecessors." After all, he isn't denying that he's the best mortal. And, he could be saying, since there are no actual singing deities....
Ha, ha ... no, it's a speech from the heart. Every time Pavarotti practiced a new opera role he listened to Björling first. He wanted to come as close to Björling as possible.
Thanks suffes1 - I didn't know that
Hi in in
I love Jussi!!!
Too bad the narrator couldn't keep his mouth shut long enough to enjoy the great voices.
Yea, seriously could have gone with a fraction of hearing him fucking yap.
the idiot narator
Ironically a horrendous speaking voice.
I agree. I wish the narrator would shut up!
100%
Looks like Mojo stepped in to a total unknown territory and got slapped lol
@Full Metal Gusset yeah
Yo, is that circle in your pic from Dark Souls 3?
Bad list!!
Very bad list for me l go for the one most oper singers say is no 1. Mario Lanza. And heres the greatest version of Ava Maria of all time. Enjoy

this should have been split up amongst men and women and then voices( alto, soprano, tenner, etc, etc.)
I totally agree. There's just too much variety and too many talented singers to condense down into one list
I agree.
Maybe men and women, but not more, there is not enough interest. Be reminded that this is Watchmojo we're talking about!
i.e. they can't judge good enough to be that specialized
Hey, you're doing a top ten list...low voices not allowed....
Lists like this remind me of Puccini. Great singers, beautiful music, and if you're a low voice you get only a crumb or two...should've been a tenor or soprano...
I wouldn't have put Callas at #1. I would have ranked Joan Sutherland there, no disrespect to Callas. I also probably would have put Carreras in honorable mention. They didn't even mention Corelli, let alone Melchior or a lot of other old-school tenors. Birgit Nielsen is conspicuously absent too. Marylyn Horne should have got honorable mention at least, except she's too low to be considered I guess...George London is one of my favorite singers of all time; never even mentioned him, let alone truly great singers like Hines, Ghiarov, Plishka, Talvela, etc
I worked for the Detroit Opera in the mid-80s where I got to interact with Pavarotti on the occasions he was performing in Detroit. He was a very jovial, light spirited man who made everyone around him laugh. I was also fortunate enough to be seated center stage at his performances. Even if you had no appreciation for an operatic voice, listening to him do his thing would make you understand why many consider him the man. RIP, sir.
First, let me say I Am a die hard Pavarotti fan, many is the dark day he has brightened... But nobody has uttered the words
Giuseppe Di Stefano...His was a voice enamored by the die hards, the duets he & Callas performed mid-20th Century, are just some of what my mentor played for me, as he opened my mind to the World of Opera...
& to hear his Tosca arias, gives me goosebumps now,as I hear them in my head
Even Luciano himself,Loved DiStefano's voice
@@christophernavarro3551 My uncle played cello for the NYMet for some 40 years. My first introduction to live opera occurred when Pavarotti was on his first tour of the US and at Atlanta's "Fabulous Fox Theater" where I sat curled up in the outer edge of the open front curtain with the then manager Francis Robinson sitting along side on a low golf chair, with the orchestra and audience behind us and the performance just feet away before us. When, on Opening Night, Pavarotti hit High Five Cs in a row, the electricity in the air literally straightened the spine. Also, during the Saturday Matinée finalizing that week, I sat front row center in the audience, this time with Francis Robinson occasionally visiting and sitting in a reserved seat alongside (to explain what was going on and what especially to look forward to), we watched Joan Sutherland. A few minutes before her performance of the "Mad Scene" was over, the packed house interrupted with a solid five minutes of thunderous applause. After she resumed the aria and finished, there were eighteen curtain calls before a standing ovation that lasted over twenty minutes. Richard Tucker, who had already did his highlight aria, knew he had to do the very best of his career after that performance and, with his last aria, did garnering a six minute standing ovation for himself. After that week of opera was over, my uncle said I was very fortunate to have experienced Pavarotti and Sutherland. My favorite night at the opera however? Pavarotti and Freni. Why? I had the most beautiful gal backstage during the performance of Madame Butterly with me. A gal who had thought "opera was no good." And couldn't turn off the open faucet her eyes became during the Falling Cherry Blossom Scene. After that one, we went to an Italian restaurant and swam in the lasagne. And, of course, Asti Spumante'; and....
I love listening to him, and I do not listen to opera. He makes the hairs on my neck and arms stand up. The man had a helluva voice
My father - who was an opera singer - claimed that Caruso could never have taught singing because his voice was literally flawless.
I can agree with that. Is your dad Gwynne Howell by any chance?
@@kennethwayne6857 No. He was Henry Howell, and he worked for English National Opera in the late 70s/early 80s.

Why is this all Tenors and Sopranos? Where are the Basses, Baritones, Contraltos, and Mezzo-Sopranos? Hell, what about Countertenors? I mean these are all good, but...?
Sam Rsmey, Sherrill Milnes, .
I agree, there are definitely some basses that deserve to be on the list.
Hell yeah
Please! No countertenors! Eerie sound!
Bryn terfel has the kind of voice one could listen to all day
Dmitri Hvorostovsky! How could you ignore his magnificently gorgeous voice and undeniable dramatic presence.
I am asking the same question!
@@veraoni7062 For pure voice Leonard Warren is the best ever baritone IMO.
Netrebko
Giuseppe Di Stefano had the most gifted vocal cords a human ever possessed. Brigit Nilsson was also a powerhouse. Tito Gobbi, Franco Corelli, Luciano Pavarotti and Maria Callas also amazing opera stars. My grandfather would go to the old Metroplitan Opera House to see Caruso and said the roof came off when he sang.
Yeah it's like Young Di Stefano has the finest voice i've ever heard. His timbre is warm, the most beautiful, his voice is very big consider he's a lyric, and the most important, his gorgeous mezza voce will never be surpassed by anyone..

You include Renee Fleming and only give the magnificent Leontyne Price an honorable mention? Amazing!
i agree!! Leon
Leontyne Price should've been in between Joan Sutherland and Jose Carreras.

You omitted four World renowned Tenors: Gigli, Schipa, Jan Pierce and Richard Tucker. You also might have considered Franco Corelli.
Its a shame that Corelli, Del Monaco, and Gigli aren't in this list.
Agree. I want to write the same 🧐😡 where is Corelli?
And Del Monaco
Luciano Pavarotti had the greatest human voice ever put to recording.
Nope- CALLAS 🎶
100%. 👍
ABSOLUTELY !!!!!
Voice of God
No
Robert Merrill. His performance of "The Pearl Fishers" with Bjorling is perfection, IMHO.
I've heard many fine voices sing this duet. Merrill and Bjorling are still #1. No other pair even comes close.
I think it's as close to perfection as two human voices are capable of reaching.
For me, Pavarotti is the best tenor of all time.
To bad he could not read or write music, nor could he play an instrument.
@@steadystride how does that take away the fact that his voice is godly?
Clearly you never heard Franco Corelli
Ruth Johnson: Pavarotti was certainly one of the best tenors of the last 50 years. If you think he was ‘the best’, I really think you need to broaden your musical horizons.
Moving on. If you think he was the best tenor ‘of all time’, you need to stop listening to rap music.
narabdela he said “for me”. it’s an opinion man. chill
Opera is so nice.....Every time I hear arias I feel as though my body has been lifted to the clouds where I begin playing a harp in a white toga with angel like creatures floating around me singing lol.
+Camri Williams The arias are my favorite part too
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Indeed, that elevating feeling, isn't it what true art is all about?
Camri Williams,
What variety of weed were you smoking?
Shihua Bai ㄴ
How blessed we are to have had these voices!
This is a well put together of beautifully well singing opera performances. Well done mojo ❤️.
So only tenors and sopranos ? And how about the great mezzos, basses and baritones ? Giulietta Simionato, Teresa Berganza, Christa Ludwig, Grace Bumbry, Cesare Siepi, José van Dam, Samuel Ramey, Nicolaï Ghiaurov, Kurt Moll, Feodor Chaliapine, Piero Cappuccilli, Ettore Bastianini, Giorgio Zancanaro, Leo Nucci... all names that coud easily be on these lists. And as for the tenors and sopranos where are Franco Corelli, Beniamino Gigli, Edita Gruberova, Renata Tebaldi, Renata Scotto, Mirella Freni ?
Did you forget Giuseppe di Stafano haha.
Your list is spot on - but you could also have added Tito Gobi!
And perhaps Lilly Pons and speaking of Swedes, Nicolai Gedda. Renata Tibaldi sang in the shadow of Callas but she was musically her equal.
Bryn Terfel, anyone?
I would put Lucia Popp over Gruberova.
Lauritz Melchior (1890-1973)
As a child, he was my pretend father - and he still holds a special place in my 80 yo heart.
Note: I am not an opera buff.
How can you not even mention Birgit Nilsson once? She literally had THE voice of the 20th century. The most dramatic soprano to have ever been caught on tape. To this day she remains the best Brünnhilde, Isolde, etc
She was loud but sounded horrible and sang like a square so few people are interested in her voice.
She's not the most dramatic soprano lol. Her vocal weight is even lighter than Tebaldi..
Her one dimensional voice should not belong here. What repertoire she sang other than Wagner?
Really? Showing your limited knowledge of what exists! No question, the greatest not even close!🚫🤡💩💩🤮
Watching this video does it for me, no other person I've heard has the powerful dramatic vibrato of the great Pavarotti; I could literally hear that beautiful voice anywhere and It would make me cry every time.
Beverly Sills, Jessye Norman, Renata Tebaldi, Franco Corelli, Kiri te Kanewa,
How could they omit Montserrat Caballé, Jesse Norman, Kathleen Battle, and Renata Tebaldi from even the honorable mentions? (They did show Caballé at the beginning,,,)
Spot on!
COME ON! What about Franco Corelli?! are we joking or what? A complete mess to prefer Domingo's " E lucevan le stelle" to Corelli's version, inadmissible. Watch it live Parma
i was expecting cabelle to be No. 1

Listening to your list brought a tear to my eyes. These were people who made it worthy to be called a human being. I do acknowledge that there are other who should have been included like the Basses, Baritones, Contraltos, and Mezzo-Sopranos referred to by Steviewaifusultan, but this list is a good start.
i don't listen to opera but this is kinda making me want to.
You should. I started listening to opera just to see how different it was to a lot of symphonic metal. And it's great. It's a lot of fun. Now I haven't sat down and watched an opera front to back, but I like popping in some of the music and just listening.

TheRisky9 check out man o war, they do opera and have a recorded live version that's impressive for metal band.
Errrr.......Renee Fleming? Where is Renata Tebaldi, Beverly Sills, Montserrat Caballe, Mirella Freni?
Love Freni! And the others!
No.
There is an entire list others that would kick ass on a top *10 opera* song list. I mean hellloooooo did anyone hear a Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen F anywhere?
I suspect that would be a strong nah.
I'm really not a huge fan of Fleming. Voice is just too dark and heavy for my taste. Almost like she's trying to force a Wagnerian soprano voice.
@@LittleLotteWanders, while you may not like her tone of voice, you have to admit that she has a flawless technique. Her voice is very emotive, like a rich, weeping violin -- very powerfully moving. In my own opinion, her control is where she shines the most, though.
Honestly, Maria Callas is the greatest vocalist of all time. Her Abigaile and Armida are the greatest vocal achievements of all times. The level of vocal thecnique and mastery she imployed on those murderous roles is still unrepated. The woman sang the impossible to put it in simple words. And Her Normas, Medeas, Violettas are the greatest interpretations of any opera role by anyone. The amount of artisitc gifts that woman possesed is simply unbelievable and greatly unffair for other singers.

Maria Callas as number 1 is no surprise given the fact that after 40 years after her death, she is still the best selling opera singer year after year. Not to mention she changed opera forever, hence its said that opera is divided before and after Maria Callas given her unparalled influence and unmatched artistry and musicianship. Her legend influenced and still influences actors, singers, painters, directors, conductors and a bunch more artists in the most varied fields. A feat only achieved by her and noneelse in opera. A thousand years will pass and She will reign supreme as the greatest soprano of all time, hence her work surpassed the opera world itself to reach places that no other opera singer could.
They said voices, not interpreters, or actresses or dramatic tourguides, wherein she absolutely IS La Prima Donna Assoluta. Voice, though? The instrument itself was never that pretty, the beauty occurring in fidelity to the libretto, not as in Dame Joan, who never sang the consonants. Sofia Anna Maria Cecilia Kaolgeropoulo Meneghini was the finest performer of the 20th century. But the voice . . .
Agreed!
I understand in terms of albums sold but in terms of example for technique Callas has a pretty voice but it only brought her through a window of here career...
Tiago Dalla Vecchia That doesn’t mean she is #1. Renata Tibaldi was better.
@@Shy8828 There are so many that could have been mentioned such as Kiri Te Kanawa.
Thank You!!!! To many People of this modern day don’t understand what good classical singing is. Finally someone who understands what good Opera singing is! Cant say I agree on the order. I wouldn’t putt Carreras at #4, and where is Corelli? But you at least understand that Potts, Boyle, and even Boccelli and Brightman DONT COME CLOSE to legends like Kiri Te Kanawa, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Marilyn Horn, Renee Fleming, Kathleen Battle, Jussi Björling, Franco Corelli, Bryn Terfel, and countless other opera legends. The media has blinded Americans and told them that these people are amazing when they are mediocre at best. I’ve studied voice in college for over a decade and will have my doctorate next year. Just compare a Corelli recording of Nessun Dorma to a Potts recoding or a Boccelli recording, you’ll hear the difference! Wake up people! Put down your Big Macks and have a steak for once!
I was so afraid they were going to include Sarah Brightman, you have no idea haha. Love her, but she's not legit opera.
Paul Whitehead honestly , I am a 15 years old girl and I really love Classical singing
Ah yes, american food has brainwashed me into thinking a singer is better than another singer, flawless detective work paul.
All greats, but now the world has Dimash...
Hvorostovsky is the peak, so he doesn't need any top list
He is terrible, he is very throaty
A great list, thank you.
Can't argue with María Callas. One of the first opera singers I ever heard about. Love Placido and Pavarotti!
There is an Ausralian they left out, Helen Porter Mitchel, Nellie Melba
Jessye Norman should have been on this list, at least as an honorable mention!!
Alex Rosenleaf absolutely.
Agreed absolutely, and Carreras aught to have been higher than Domingo and Pavarotti, to me they were questionable to be on the list. Jessye Norman should have absolutely been on that list. Waiting and waiting for Ryan Speedo Greens voice to mature in to what we all hope it becomes. And I am praying for many great years at Bayreuth with Barenboim conducting...add in that lovely voice of Jessye Norman so suited for Wagner as her projection is divine and her native language is German, I just might swoon
DaM straight
Rivkahle Toybe The Three Tenors I believe were in the right order. I think Leontyne Price should have made the list instead of honorable mention.
I think her "Four Last Songs" by Richard Strauss is the best ever!

Frankly, who listens to Bjorling? How many records did he sell? That voice is Ok for a Christmas song--but it's not played at Christmas. He just is not the voice that most people want to listen to. How often do you play him? I'm guessing nearly never.
Y’all really gonna leave out Corelli when the person YOU put at #1 said he was her favorite tenor

Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovski, Algerian Amel Brahim-Djelloul, and Japanese soprano Yumiko Samejima are others worthy of honorable mention. If you keep an open mind and listen to Michael Bolton's "The Arias, My Secret Passions" You may be pleasantly surprised. Canadian Gino Vannelli's album "Canto" is also fantastic. Gino sings in French, Italian, Spanish and English. While technically not "Opera" songs, they have all the trappings of Opera. Absolutely
When are Franco Corelli,Monserrat Caballé,Renata Tebaldi,Mario Del Monaco,Kiri Te Kanawa.Marilyn Horne, Beniamino Gligli etc.I agree with many of the singers of the list but you cant l forget Corelli and Tebaldi.
Any one of them could have replaced Renee Fleming. Nothing against her, but this list is too much skewed toward popular, contemporary figures to the detriments of true legends. I'm a huge Carreras fan, but to put him in the top five and leave Corelli off the list entirely is a travesty.
How about Celene Dion???!!!
+Dal Redmond Celene may be unfairly down-rated because she sang pop music, not just opera. The same could be said for Lanza.
I am a Domingo fan, but I seriously think that Del Monaco or Corelli should have been higher than Domingo.
What kind of idiot are you. Celine Dion is a great pop singer but has absolutely no abilities that would suit her to opera nor has she ever attepted to sing anything from an opera. Great singers in each area of vocal music are great because they understand how to use their voices properly to serve that genre of music. Very, very few singers can sing in multiple genres and do it well. No one is downgrading Celine Dion's great voice and power as a pop singer by not including her in a list of opera singers. Only people like you who have no real understanding or appreciation of the distinctions in types of voices and genres of music would make such a foolish statement.
When it comes to opera, you should go deep through it and not getting stuffs from Wikipedia
So much feeling...
There cannot be a top ten whithout Caballé and Corelli
Especially Corelli.
And Caballe the last of the prima donnas of the 20th century! Si or Si
Corelli, Del Mónaco, B.Gigli,Lanza ect.
Oh God bless you... Corbelli is such great talent in both singing and acting
yes indeed I would have put corelli near the top - and unfortunately Josef Schmidt did not live long enough to be recognized universally as the #1 sweetest voice of all.
São todas honoráveis cantoras mas a tecitura vocal da Grandiosa Montserrat Caballè para mim, é única. Ela tinha uma voz doce porém encorpada com agudos e graves que sempre me deixam perplexo e extasiado. Ninguém é igual a ela. Ninguém será igual a ela. Para sempre em meu coração, Montserrat Caballè. 💗 💗 💗
Franco Corelli, Leontyne Price, and Beverly Sills should be on the list! Sills sang like an angel, Price so dramatically, Corelli so effortlessly! All of these so easy to listen to; I don't feel wiped out when they sing, just thrilled. And I agree with others here--there should be baritones, mezzo-sopranos, and contraltos on the list. Who did the rating, anyway?
Can’t we all just confess that our time has been very blessed with some of these? Why compare?
*I agree with Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland and Luciano being high in the list;* maybe this should have been called "Most renowned/legendary/impactful Opera singers"...
GarageStudio it should have been called 'Most popular opera singers who never sing below the staff' tbh. Apparently no one's heard of an alto or bass

Where are the basses?
Where´s Giuseppe di Stefano, Tito Gobbi, Renata Rebaldi and Cesare Siepi?
And add to your list Victoria de Losangeles, and Renata Scotto
Del Monaco
My uncle met Giuseppe di Stefano in the early 40s.
1st. Enrico Caruso. 2nd. Jussi Björling 3rd. Maria Callas 4th. Luciano Pavarotti. 5th. Plácido Domingo.
Its a shame Giuseppe di Stefano is not on this list.
The most amazing (and beautiful) opera voice of the last 100 years was Giuseppe di Stefano. Perhaps you haven't heard of him. Listen to his 1940s and early 1950s recordings. He often partnered (and out shone) Callas.
BRAVO!
Perfect
I'm kinda upset Dmitri Hvorostovsky didn't make the list.
Aileen Taylor why? He’s terrible
Problem is, there is no universal criteria for determining who is the best of anything. Not all who listen to these undeniably great singers share the same level of education in this musical art form which, in itself, doesn't even matter as taste is a very personal thing. I love Maria Callas because her voice is personally exciting to me. But I also have to respect that others find the veiled quality of her voice personally unpleasant. Fortunately, Tebaldi, Sutherland, Sills and others existed for them.
I am pretty sure they just asked Google for a list of popular Tenors and Sopranos then slapped a few videos together. It was obviously compiled by someone with only the most shallow knowledge and appreciation of Opera.
Sour
Firstly, I know to choose the top ten tenors and sopranos of all time is something impossible. (This is a soprano/tenor list only.) GRANTED. Perhaps should never be attempted? But in all good sport, here it is. With respect to Pavarotti and the other top choices,.... internationally across the board of all expert opinions, Bjorling has ALWAYS come out on top ALWAYS, of all time tenors,. CARUSO second, Wunderlich, despite his short career always ranks top five, so is CORELLI, LANZA, GIGLI,...these tenors CHANGED opera. VICKERS,, Wagner aside, his OTELLO DON JOSE, PETER GRIMES, etc,...... OMG. one for the Ages, from 1957-1988!! KIEPURA, MC CORMACK, SCHIPA, TUCKER,..voices never matched again in time! SOPRANOS! PRICE! TEBALDI CABALLE! NILSON, SUTHERLAND, FRENI, SILLS, immortal voices! IMPOSSIBLE TO DO! BE GRACIOUS! BUT STILL I SAY!
Shalyapin or Hvorostovsky not on a list?? this list is a farse
No one baritone, bass or mezzos. Not even in the mentions :(
Dietrich fischer-Dieskau was a baritone
they mention Placido Domingo as baritone
Cecilia Bartoli should be in
I absolutely love Carlos Marin. Looks don't last forever, but my god that voice sends me chills!
Marilyn Horne could’ve been here had they included mezzos
I NEED to add to this list because there are just too many greats (if you're a soprano check them out! you won't regret it):
Kiri Te Kanawa
Diana Damarau
Jesse Norman
Angela Gheorghiu
Beverly Sills
A list without Jussi Björling is automatically a flawed list.
You completely forgot Lucia Popp!
It's a joke...you are not even close to understand what Opera singing is
alessandro merlotti considering they put out multiple videos daily you can't expect them to work too hard to be all encompassing or for that matter correct
Couldn't agree more...

wheres hvorostovsky?
Any list that has Jose Carreras ahead of Jussi Björling is complete BS.
Based on the recordings here, I would put Carreras ahead of Bjorling absolutly! The tone and vibrato of Carreras are much more esthetically pleasing to my ear.
Kent St Carreras was a lyric tenor who forced his voice into dramatic/spinto tenor singing and so ruined his lyric sound. He went for the money & popularity to the detriment of his voice. ( Can’t say I entirely blame him; he seems to have gotten away with it)
True, this guy is an idiot!
@@gregsolovieff6711 I agree. That point you made was most evident during the 3 tenor concert but remember he had been sick so we have cut him a little slack.
Carreras is way better in my opinion
This list should more appropriately be called the top 10 tenors / sopranos.
Kiri te Kanawa, Dawn Upshaw are 2 wonderful sopranos, Dmtri Hvorotoskvy a brilliant late Baritone.
Hello?.....Franco Corelli? Any of the great Verdi Baritones like Merrill, Cappuccilli, Milnes? Natalie Dessay over Anna Moffo, Renata Scotto, or Mirella Freni, Beverly Sills?
The most beautiful voice was Jussi Bjoerling's.
The most dramatic voice was Callas, with great stage presence.
All singers have strengths and weaknesses.
Rating them depends on your preferences.
I am sorry Callas is most dramatic? Callas was a Bel Canto Coluratura, not Dramatic... also I am sorry but Brigit Nilsson beat her out of the park...
desertsidewinder Callas has too much vibrato for my ears.
@@Annija_Dziesma_T_official Birgit Nillson beats her? Lol Callas's voice is heavier and darker than Nillson's. Have you heard Nillson sang Lady Macbeth, or Nabucco? She sounded like a LYRIC. Callas is FAR more dramatic than her.
@@awokwok1029 ha
@@Annija_Dziesma_T_official ha? Is that all you can say?
Where the hell is Corelli, Del Monaco, Tebaldi, Tetrazzini, Shipa, Fleta, Ruffo, Grandforte, etc ?! How could you put Carreras and Domingo in front of Caruso and Björling ?!!
I agree. Franco Corelli is one of the greatest voices in opera.
@@stevencohen3625 Personally he is my favourite tenor, the power, squillo and beauty of his voice is unparalleled !
Don't sweat it. It's only an opinion. Everybody's got one. Just like...
@@jonswanson7766 Sorry but Caruso is superior to Domingo, that's a fact, not an opinion.
@@abcdefgh-db1to that's my point. I do not agree with the list. The maker of the list has an opinion. I have mine. You have yours. I personally would put Pavarotti at the top. There was no mention of Jon Vickers. He had a tremendous voice. Then there's Nicolai Gedda. No one comes close to his tenor solo from the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven (Andre Cluytens Berlin Philharmonic) Jose van Damn is another one of my favorites. How could I possible argue about who your favourite is. I am so glad to see so many people passionate about great singers.
I wish there was no commentary until the end of a song. The singing is so good!
Magnificent Franco Corelli the best tenor who ever lived .
i agree
I heard Corelli withTebaldi in Atlanta one summer, absolutely stunning. Corelli's voice so full and warm.
Very good choices but I would personally have had Mario Lanza in there somewhere. He was more of a movie star but certainly a wonderful talent and shined a light on the opera world through his chosen venue. I would have had at least one or two bass/baritones or mezzos on the list, too. They seem to get overlooked quite often.
It was explained at the start of the video that singers that didn't actually mostly sing in operas were not included, saying this was why Boccelli wasn't included. I remember a friend of mine saying a few years ago that Lanza never performed in a single opera in his entire life. I might be wrong but I don't think that is correct. I haven't checked but I think that he did do one full performance in an opera.
Yet Mario played in opera. And How about Franco Corelli?
Great list, loved it! At the same time, I expected to see Sergio Franchi ... :(
top two, I totally agree
Cristina Deutekom is one of the most amazing voices ever graced the Opera world. She may not receive as Iconic status as some of the legends but she certainly is capable of outsinging many of them.
I agree
How could you not have Mario Lanza in this list!?!
Rangliste also ganz nach meinem Geschmack.
I believe Kathleen Battle and Beverly Sills should have been on this list.
