As an Axis reenactor (German Italian), it's great to see someone doing an IJA impression, which is no small feat, and doing it right!! Bravo!!

As a U.S. Civil war reenactor I am very happy to see other reenactors in different time periods. Their age makes a big difference since now I and a lot of my fellow reenactors are 60 and over. Keep history alive! 😊👍

I'm fascinated with this era as my uncle was a Shanghai Marine before WW2 and my grandfather joined the Marines in January of 1942. Both survived the war thank God, but they both had interesting stories. Thank you for bringing this time to life.

@455ch33klmao what? They are talking about the U.S marines stationed in Shanghai hence the name, why would they be killing Chinese civilians? That’s a matter for the Japanese military and soldiers during the China campaign

36th division was a German-trained division, so I think they should use the German equipments.

The m/90 with helmet looks quite a lot like Swedish m/39 on a brief look. Anyways very interesting video.
What equipment is different from IJN to IJA? You tied your helmet differently from IJN to IJA. I would guess tying the helmet would be highly regulated.
You kept the hat on when you put on the helmet. Did the hemet have a liner or does the hat act as a makeshift liner?
How do you get to your canteen when it’s straps are overlayed but other equipment?
Always thought that the shirt worn under the summer tunic has a kind of mandarin collar. How did the collar liner stay after running around carrying rifle and reenactment activity in general?
The collar on my uniform is quite snug so it doesnt move as much. Soldiers can either stitch it into the collar of the uniform or just leave it free floating like mine.

Awsome! Btw at 1:22 I thought japanese were wearing the tabi socks with cut between thumb and rest of the fingers. They must have had those at lest for those jungle tabi shaped shoes. But I thought they were still norm for rest of the soldiers.
The jika-tabi were primarily used as work shoes (e.g. constructing bridges, trenches, fortifications) but were also useful for night combat to make less noise or for city environments for better grip on smooth surfaces. The normal footwear would’ve been the brown leather boots for army and black leather boots for navy.
@@hattorihan7503 Thanks, I also meant the socks that were worn inside shoes. Why dont those have tabi shape? Is it because they are harder to make?
@@radoslavkosil7450They weren’t issued tabi socks. You could wear normal socks just fine with it, and it also cushions the space between your toe so the split doesn’t dig in too much.

Nice presentation. I still find it difficult to believe the Navy SNLF would wear helmet with IJA star lol!. You should have just purchased a cloth helmet cover with anchor patch to complete the SNLF marine set up.
Anyway great job overall.
The SNLF had a shortage of Navy helmets at the start of mobilization, so I’m portraying one of the many reservist SNLF units that were equipped with Army helmets
@@hattorihan7503 Fair enough. I am a huge military history enthusiast especially WW2 and the Pacific and Far East Theater. I just don't remember seeing any photos or footage of SNLF troops in China wearing any IJA helmet. I only saw reservists wearing the old flat saucer style SNLF helmet with anchor, same ones worn by the Shanghai SNLF garrison in the early 1930s.
@@streetgato9697 SNLF wearing Army helmets is only really appears during the Battle of Shanghai as production and supply lines stabilized afterwards.
Was there any actual practical aplication to those obligatory gas masks? Or were they there just in case, as IJA was developing this kind of weapons, so they assumed they will face the same?

If they are in stock, yes. But normally they aren’t so we usually get original puttees and boots from a Pakistani shoemaker
Question, the back ammo pouch, is that a hand grenade attached or an oil bottle. Also when a number is shown in the title of a piece in the uniform is that the pattern number or a size number or something else ?
Attached to the reserve pouch is an oil bottle for rifle maintenance. As for the number designations, they either use the year of the reign of the current Emperor (e.g. Meiji 45, Showa 5), or the year since the founding of Japan by Emperor Jimmu in 660 BC (e.g. Type 95 = Year 2595).

Navy summer uniform is from hikishop. Army summer uniform is from a seller in Japan named Sakurai, though he does not typically sell overseas.

the NRA (national revolution army) of the KMT. military uniform have a similarity like german army because before the war the kmt have invited the german military officer to come and helping training the new NRA after the purged of the leftist faction of kmt (ccp).there want to largely eliminated any soviet from its rank. which ironically have help the KMT during the warlord era.

最后那段中华民国国军军服只是中央德械部队的装备，像87、88、36师这种甲种德械师 能够装备毛瑟98K、M35钢盔和防毒面具，他们的作战素养也很高，甚至能把日军赶下大海，但是部队数量很少，全国整编出来的德械甲种师只有三个师。其他的部队像川军、黔军部队都是土布衣服，武器大部分都是汉阳造步枪和麻花手榴弹，没有钢盔和防毒面具，而且很多人有毒瘾是双枪兵(烟枪、步枪)。作战素质很差，不会挖工事，也得不到重武器支援。面对日军的炮击和毒气攻击，往往一触即溃。

Most member in No.19 division of NRA basically come form my home province. They know they are going to lose that battle,but they insisted because they want to prove Chinese didn't surround.

Of course Japanese military uniform is the better.
During that time most NRA solider wear shoes made of grass rope or home made cotton shoes, convers still too luxury.
I’m portraying the 36th Division which would have been a little better equipped . I’m wearing the Warrior brand rubber shoes which had a factory in Shanghai at the time, so it is not implausible for a soldier in the battle of Shanghai to have one.
@@hattorihan7503 canvas shoes is extremely rare in China during that time, after war break up Chinese no longer able to produce rubber sole canvas shoes, you guys may want to try make grass shoes yourself, only tools just wood board and nails.
@@user-zm5vp4jc4v Like I said, I am portraying a better equipped soldier at the start of the war. Almost all of the period photographs of the elite units at the start of the Battle of Shanghai do not have straw sandals. If I was portraying a soldier after Shanghai then I would be wearing straw sandals.

I am a big WW2 history nerd but I do not know how I feel about this. History wise yes but I hope it does not promote anything to do with imperial Japan. This uniform committed unthinkable atrocities in China and it Asian neighbours. The emperor should have been executed. The man is responsible for millions of death of his own country people and through out the pacific. Better yet it if he was killed by his own ppl like Mussolini.

I heard people near the Yakusine shrine that were caught talking about IJA atrocities were beated inches of their lifes. These people do not care but everyone was heartless in the forties. Transgender people and BLM were fed to the wolves back then. The world would have been over if people Japanese etc had the weapons they had today. Would have enjoyed killing.
