Olivia's jazzercise era was fire. Her duet with Cliff Richard, "Suddenly" is one of the best duets of the 80's imo.
Agreed
This was her follow up to her Grease tunes. It came out in early 1979, a couple years before "Physical".
Thanks for reminding me of that gem.
totally agree on that, Cliff and Olivia hit it off, great song and video
Suddenly was awesome!!!
It was Olivia hitting those notes with the background singers. She had a 4 octave range. God I miss her. 😢
The backup singers wasn't recorded on this song. It was all Olivia's voice every bit of it. Her backup singers were only there to be a part of the video.
Olivia did all the vocals. That's why it all sounds like her, even the backing vocals. Steve Lukather (Toto) was the guitar player and David Hungate (Toto) was the bass player.
did not know, thank you for the info!
Yeah, the girls in the video were just there for show. That was all Olivia on all the vocals.
Yeah, I screamed when they gave the credit to "backup singers" for Olivia's vocals. Ugh! Let's face it, they shouldn't have used this video in the first place when there was a legitimate promo video made for the song. This was a video created years later for a home video release. None of the people in this video except for Olivia were part of the original recording. The youngsters need music consultants like myself to assist them.
@@shyman99 I wondered why the video for this and " make a move on me" looked similar, but 4 years apart.
I think Lukather and Toto were on EVERYTHING from that era! They were on McCartney’s “Broad Street” soundtrack that they reacted to yesterday, too. ❤
Who Was not in love with that lady back then ?
You might love some of Olivia's earliest 1970s hits. They had a certain country twang to them. "Sam", "Please, Mister Please" and others.
YES!! I was just getting ready to say the same thing!! They need to check out the EARLY Olivia Newton John!!
Most of Olivia's music and hits before Grease was Country.
Olivia Newton John songs to check out:
1. Suddenly - with Cliff Richard
2. If You Love Me Let Me Know
3. Let Me Be There
4. Take Me Home Country Roads
5. Have You Never Been Mellow
6. Twist of Fate
7. Banks of the Ohio
8. Make a Move on Me
I also love Sam
I love Sam as well
"Heart Attack" as well.
"Take Me Home..."
is originally by John Denver.
Suddenly is such a great tune, isn't it? I never get tired of it. Never.
Don't forget Soul Kiss!
This is Olivia at her sultry best, and a really good song with a great chorus and guitar backing-Colin Ward
💯
Love that woman and that song! Her death hit me really hard. I've been a fan since I was a kid ... about 50 years!
Same here ONJ 4-evah!
@@Ponytang I didn't have a crush on her, but I loved her sound and style. She also always seemed to be such a sweet person in interviews.
56 here, only 2 deaths hit me hard like a close friend died, Olivia Newton John and Robin Williams, Olivia huge crush on her at 10 circa 1976
@@nightfangs2910 I turned 56 on the 7th.
48 and completely agree, only saw her live once at The Main Event in Sydney but then I met her at a CD signing "Back with a Heart" a few days later.
Good God, she was so unbelievably talented. RIP
She had amazing range and it always looked so effortless. And no, it wasn't the backup singers that hit the high note. That was her.
Loved Olivia. She was one of my early crushes when I was a kid. Love this song. She was beautiful, sultry & sexy without ever being over done. She didn't need to promote herself as anything other than a genuine person. But her style in this video is steeped in early 80's - shoulder pads, headbands, long earrings, short stylish hair was all the rage for so many female (and some male artists). RIP Olivia...we miss you!
"Physical" did things to me as a teen though.
My 11-year-old self loved this song. I had the '45 (you guys probably don't know what that was 😂) and I would record myself singing it on a little cassette recorder. 😅
Are you old enough to remember when you got a free 45 on the back of cereal boxes?
-xD !-
@theresamariegoesplaces9688 and you had to put a coin on it to make it heavy enough to spin under the weight of the needle?
do you recall that Mad magazine would put 45's on the back cover? (or were they 78's)
I forgot all about the 45s on Mad magazines and cereal boxes til you mentioned it. And I actually did have to put a penny on the needle of my Hollie Hobbie record player to stop it from skipping. 😆
More Olivia! Yes!
She was a country singer before going mainstream.
She went through phases as all unique artist do. Her last songs were back to her roots in the most pure way.
@@virtualdude64 when she was Country she was mainstream country.
You should check out her duet with Cliff Richard called Suddenly also from the Xanadu soundtrack. Or another song called Make A Move On Me from the Physical album.
I love that you guys get it too. She is so smokey in her sweetness. Its like mom before she had us. We love it Olivia.
She was so beautiful, inside and out! We are very proud of her in Australia! RIP Olivia.
Check out Olivia singing a duet with Cliff Richard called "Suddenly". It's a classic!
Olivia did her own backing vocals on this song...so that high note was her voice!
When I hear this as a 53-yr-old, 15-yr-old me still has a crush on her. ❤️
I was 15 in 1980. Olivia Newton John was, from her voice to her bod to her "go rob banks" eyes: the very definition of drop dead sexy.
Actually that was Olivia hitting that note. I've heard her even go higher on the scale.
She had so many great songs! Some of her older 70 songs were fantastic. Let Me Be There, If You Love Me(Let Me Know), Have You Never Been Mellow, If Not For You, Please Mister, Please, Come On Over, and Sam. They all are well worth a listen.
Yes!!
Please react to Come On Over by Olivia. It's a great song written by the Bee Gees.
Definitely agree!
@@lindawolf4863 It's on Bee Gees "Main Course" album - every song a gem on that one - 1975 just before their disco era. Robin's voice on Come on Over and then Barry coming in is amazing.
Growing up Olivia was everywhere on the radio. I was able to experience her country music in the 70s and then her pop music in the 80s. The Physical album songs were always on the radio. I am happy that I had the privilege to hear her music when it first was released. Today it still sounds awesome.
May she RIP.
“A Little More Love, “Deeper Than the Night,” “Xanadu,” “Twist of Fate,”
and “Magic” were Olivia’s Pop Rock era with some of the mystery of New Wave, and disco rhythms thrown in. It’s great to see that young people like the Rob Squad get why the artists of the 1970s & 1980s are still listened to 50 years later.
There's something ethereal about ONJ. Her voice takes me to a magical place.
YES! This one has a darker sound in the verses. I love Olivia, and this is one of my faves!!! This one peaked at #3 for 2 weeks in early 1979 (hit the top 40 in December 1978).
All of those notes were Olivia. She did all of her own backing vocals. It's not a coincidence that she and the Carpenters were very good friends; they did they're own backing vocals, too.
The band in the video was not actually on the recording. There were a lot of members of Toto on this album and Olivia did all of the backing vocals herself.
I had the GREAT pleasure of meeting Olivia at the '82 Grammys (yes, I'm old) and she was one of the sweetest, most genuine celebrities I have ever met and who greatly appreciated her fans. She has a duet or two with Andy Gibb that you should find. Also, she recorded "Come On Over" and "Carried Away", both of which were written by the Bee Gees. Another hit of hers I recommend is "Twist Of Fate."
PS - More Sheena Easton, please. Listen to "Almost Over You" and from there, I could give you a whole list of her hits!!
Yes, her duets with Andy! "I Can't Help It" was the big hit, but I really really love "Rest Your Love on Me."
The vocal hook and guitar drive are amazing in this song. And Olivia's vocal range is incredible. One of her best songs!
Her voice is like butter
Olivia herself did the backing vocals.
Omg, my favorite Olivia song. So sultry.
This is my obligatory "watch Xanadu!" comment. lol Olivia Newton John was such an *amazing* singer; her songs, even the lesser known, just hit different somehow. Honestly, just pick any of her work and it'll be impressive. Thank you so much for reacting to this. It's one of my favorites!
Its easy to say that 1978 was a hot year for Olivia. Grease came out and was a huge hit, and her album Totally Hot came out the same year with this huge hit on it. This song was big on the radio and could be heard on every station that played top 40. Olivia had so, so many great songs and I am glad you guys are revisiting them. She was an icon for sure. Great reaction you two!!
So far, you've completely missed my favorite ONJ era. Please don't miss her mid-seventies treasures (Have You Never Been Mellow, Let Me Be There, If You Love Me Let Me Know, Please Mr. Please).
I always loved Olivia Newton-John! I pretended to be her growing up! I love the songs Sam, Jolene, Twist of Fate. She has a lot of songs worth listening too! I am still sad of her passing!😢❤
I always cranked this song up loud. So good. Rest in peace Olivia.
I love love love this song! My suggestion for your next Olivia newton john reaction is Suddenly with Cliff Richards off the Xanadu sound track. ❤❤❤❤❤
Make a move on me is another Disco tune from Olivia worth checking out
Totally agree except for the disco bit, not sure she was ever disco?
Agree with you, Olivia has the most gentle and pure voice, also her style is very sweet. Great reaction!!!
I can never get enough of her voice. It is comfort food for the ears.
Olivia was the First woman (other than my mom) I loved and idolized... I was 6 when I originally saw Grease in the theater. I have been obsessed with ONJ ever since!
This 1978/'79 song began shedding that "good girl" persona Olivia had for so many years. It was very popular back then.
There was another tune from her 1978 "Totally Hot" Lp called "Deeper Then The Night", that you might like. "A Little More Love" was the main "hit" from the album. But "Deeper..." was good too...
Lots of great songs on that Lp....title song a hidden gem...
You should do Nobody by Sylvia. That's an 80s oldie but one that was a fan favorite back in the day.
Pillow Talk.
Yeah, I requested "Nobody" a LONG time ago. The lyrics are so clever. They had me confused as a kid, but as I grew to understand them, they are absolutely genius!
@@BillGraper They are. It was a very catchy song.
Those harmonies she does with her lead are heavenly!
One of my favorites from her. It's so sultry and mysterious sounding. A good friend of mine had the album Physical on cassette, and we listened to it over and over. ONJ was a huge part of the soundtrack to my early childhood. Phenomenal voice. What an icon! RIP
rest in paradise 😔 🕯
I loooved this song! She’s singing her own background vocals.
Love❤Love❤Love Olivia....She s in my heart 😊
She is stunningly beautiful. Imagine if Elvis and Olivia had a baby. They could have literally created a new human species
She was wonderful.
The last recording/video she did was with Dolly Parton- Jolene. It is absolutely perfection 😊
beautiful of heart, body, and voice; Olivia had it all........
Such a killer song.
🔥 She was incredibly beautiful with a voice that can never be duplicated
This & magic are her best songs! To me.
Olivia Newton-John was my first star crush at the time when she was at the height of her fame (1977-1983, and during this time I was ages 5 to 11), the era of Grease, Xanadu, the Physical album, and ending with the film Two Of A Kind and its soundtrack on which she re-teamed with John Travolta. Twist of Fate is a song from that film...and a real banger!
Definitely the fantasy girlfriend of millions of men and boys -- myself included -- and I wouldn't doubt, some girls, too.
Just listen to those lyrics : " Trap in the spell of your eyes in the warm of your arms and the web of your lies " undisputed the Best artist Australia has had ever tons of talent in her actress , singer and very humanitarian person she was .
I was in love with her since I was a young boy and heard her first U.S. hit in 1973. "Let Me Be There" and she just got better and better. Such a beautiful woman. I miss her.
There has never been anyone who has ever said a bad word about her. People have come forward from her entire life, and they ALL loved her. RIP Miss Olivia Newton John. You were beautiful inside and out!!! Hopelessly Devoted to You, is another great one if you've not checked it out yet.
All the vocals were Olivia's, Even when they were showing the backup singers. She has a very high falsetto that she can go into. She has a gorgeous voice.... Or,well, she had a gorgeous voice😥
i love her and miss her. RIP.
She was just a young girl in early 70’s when she won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal with the song “Let Me Be There”. Then in 1974 she won American Music Award for Favorite Country single with her song “I Honestly Love You “. I don’t think of Country when I think of her! Check those 2 songs out😉
RIP Olivia ❤😊
RIP to a talented, strong woman who's music will keep us in our hearts today and always.
While "Miss Olvia Newton-John" is not only a great singer, she is "Dame Olivia Newton-John AC DBE."
"Have You Ever Been Mello" and "Deeper Than The Night" are two of the Best and she has an Angels Voice
ALWAYS LOVE ONJ!!!!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. beautiful one!
Her velvet voice and her drop-dead gorgeousness were devastating. Gosh, she was incredible.
can never go wrong with the late great Olivia Newton John
Rock In Peace Olivia Newton John. 🙏🙏
Beautiful song 🎵
"A Little More Love" is my all time favorite Olivia Newton-John song! So glad you guys reacted to this one! Olivia was so great during the Disco era!
It is funny that Amber said that she would put Olivia up there with Karen Carpenter and Dolly. Olivia and Karen were the closest of friends up until Karen's passing. Olivia took it pretty hard. She was supposed to meet Karen for lunch the day after she passed.
Olivia was the ultimate vocalist, she had sultry low tones and angelic high tones with everything in between.
TY for showing us our beautiful "Livy" again, at her finest her voice so pure and a beauty that never faded even in the later part of her life. We still miss her here and even though she spent a big part of her life in the USA she will always remain our gift to the world our Olivia.
Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎶🎶🎵🎵❤❤❤❤
I'm so happy that I was able to see her in Vegas before she passed. She sounded amazing and that was on the top of my bucket list.
Olivia does a great duet with life-long friend Cliff Richard called "Suddenly." There’s a video, too.
Alright….Im a metal head….but when i was a kid, I was IN LOVE with Olivia Newton John….and …I still own her vinyls lol…her voice is an angels voice, with a little devil in there too, if you know what I mean, I NEVER missed her on tv, when she sang on shows like Solid Gold. Oh and my mom said when she came on TV, I would blush lol
I was the same. I had such a crush on her.
Jay & Amber, you'll love her “Have You Never Been Mellow”, "Let Me Be There" and "Please Mr. Please"!!!!
edit- on the original recording, the backing vocals are just Olivia! David Hungate(of Toto) on bass
Listen, I love Olivia Newton-John! And this song is everything
I remember sitting down to watch TV with my parents and watching the Mac Davis show, where Olivia was a backup singer (mid 70s)
One of the best voices out there ever and her beauty shines through her songs. Here's my top list from ONJ......Hopelessly Devoted to You (78)....Let Me Be There (73).......I Honestly Love You (74)......Have You Ever Been Mellow (75).......Make a Move on Me (81)......and Twist of Fate (83)......last one is a pretty good movie also of same name...
The movie that Twist of Fate was from is called Two of a Kind
All these years later and she's still this incredibly captivating. RIP ONJ
I haven't heard this song in..........what......30 years?! SO awesome that you reacted to it! Thank you!! :)
Love Olivia so much! This song was such a hit when it came out. May she RIP.
And now Matthew Perry passed away yesterday. So sad. :( Maybe you could react to his comedy movie The Whole Nine Yards on Friday as a tribute to him. May he RIP also.
Rip olivia❤
Olivia was one of the first artists to sing her own backing vocals along with the lead track. Amber, I think you would love Sam for it’s beautifully tender vocal while Jay might appreciate Twist of Fate for it’s 80’s synth pop/rock production. She has such a varied catalogue from her 70’s country hits & contemporary ballads before Grease, to her pop/rock/new wave hits after Grease.
I really like this song and I Love ONJ. The best.
Regards from Chile 🙂
Need to hear her early country sound! "Let Me Be There" or "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)"
R.I. P. Ms Newton-John! This was a #3 smash from her LP Totally Hot in her post Grease days (1979). One my favorite ONJ songs!
This is my overall #1 favorite hit from ONJ!
I was a 12 yo boy when I first heard this song. Then I saw the promo video for it.
It made me feel...things...
She was mostly definitely my first celebrity crush. That never really changed over the years.
The softness of her voice and the deep base guitar
She was such a fixture in my life. I thought she’d be around forever. Great song for ‘79 🙂
i remember when this first came out and the thing about this tune is that we all know how pretty her voice always was but with this tune she put some straight up STANK on this tune ! and big ups to the band also .
I miss Olivia so much. She was my earliest childhood crush. I loved her from the first moment I heard her singing, and still love her to this day, nearly fifty years later.
Such a great song to play loud.
Her duet with John Farnham, Please don’t ask me, is just so good.
