A roundup of some of the newest and most interesting new road bikes from the first day of Sea Otter Classic 2024, held in a very sunny Monterey, California. There’s a definite trend for road bikes with 40mm tyre clearance but a move away from the endurance category tag to all-road by some brands but regardless of the label these look like really interesting bikes. There’s also some beautifully classic from Ritchey and Moots so it’s not a complete carbon fibre whitewash!

Thank you, David, for being one of the cool kids with a camera at Sea Otter. I always appreciate seeing and hearing about what's what. And thanks, too, for giving the fabricators time to talk about their creations.

You posted this video so quickly. Thank you. Seems the 140-mile ride wasn't enough to slow you down. Integrated bar/stem seems to take over the show. I'm not interested in their offerings, but I do respect them for being true to themselves.

Not heard of Parlee but spokesperson seemed really passionate about the product and features seem to make a lot of sense, I was thinking pretty cool, until it went on to the next bike which looked exactly the same. Imagine it's the year 2024 and bike manufacturers still aren't producing plus versions of their race frames that have a slightly shorter reach and slightly higher stack whilst being slightly heavier and perhaps slightly more affordable.
A large portion of riders who can afford the ever increasing cost of bikes simply can't accommodate race geo on a regular basis or for prolonged periods without spacers or shorter stems. At the same time, they don't want a headtube the size of a door and an ungainly looking frame on a bike at the prices we're at.
The result of not having this is people getting the bike they want but can't ride properly, people getting the bike they want but only being able to ride properly with spacers and short stem so they don't like it, and then people getting the bike they don't really want or desire but they can ride it properly and pain free and yet still wish it looked better.

If I could truly have a 1 bike drop bar bike I would love to see a mix of the Revolt, TCR and TCX. Right now I think my Revolt is a good mix of TCR and Revolt. Just wish the BB on the Revolt was about 7mm higher. To split the difference of the TCX, Revolt. To me that would be the perfect 1 bike. Able to run 30's to 2.1 MTB tires. I like the Blackheart bikes but I worry that the 427mm chainstays on the gravel AL won't give enough clearance between the seat tube and the wheel on muddy terrain. I like an aggressive geometry but this is cutting it close maybe? Also, I about vomited when Cody said "designed for the person who has their finger on the pulse of style".
