- The Gallifrey Gals continue to Martha's present day where The Master is back and now been voted in as the new Prime Minister. While Harold Saxon "The Master" tries to get that tapping out of his head, will Paula be able to get this episode out of hers? The beat goes on...
IT'S ALMOST HERE! The EPIC conclusion to Doctor Who Series 3, but what will we do in the meantime? No worries, we still have a few surprises left over for the remainder of this season. Don't miss all of Paula's surprises and Katrina's excitement when we jump into "The Sound of Drums".

"Decimate mankind!"
Oh. Great, another villain who doesn't know what the word decimate mea...
"Remove 1/10 of the population!"
I - stand corrected.
I learnt something new!
Haha, _exactly_ what I was thinking when I saw this! "Oh wow! It's good to see a _proper_ decimation for once… Uh… Well, not "good" good, but you know what I mean."
Half expecting we will one day discover that the master introduced the concept to the Romans.
@@thejellyfisha - one way the Romans punished legions who mutinied was to randomly select one man in ten and kill them - "dec" is ten, as in December, which was the tenth month in the Roman year
@@quintuscrinis8032 I think the Master said he did in a comment in Classic Who.
My favourite moment of the RTD era is where The Master summons the Toclafane and Voodoo Child starts playing. Iconic.
I feel like that scene just perfectly encapsulates how unhinged he is.
What I love about this episode is the way the Doctor is deadly serious throughout all of it. The Doctor is usually so comical and jokey but when he's up against the Master it all disappears and you can just tell how big of a threat he is.
ooh yeah that's a great point!
"Who are they [the Toclafane]"
"Doctor, If I told you the truth, your hearts would break"
Skies are made of diamonds!
“And so it came to pass that the earth was no more. And I looked down upon my new dominion, as Master of all...and I thought it good.”
King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England (intense old dude breathing) aaaaand blank screen ooh can’t wait for next episode and series 4 ... but I think a song may be ending by then
It must be hard for Katrina to not give away plot points and I love her cheeky, knowing looks to the camera.
Paula’s reactions are brilliant and some of her thoughts and comments are far more insightful than she knows.
David Randall that’s exactly what I was thinking. “That’s what you think? Mmmk. Mmmmk” 😄
I love that phone conversation between the Master and Doctor. “The perfect warrior for a Time War” ... “I was so scared” ... “Are you asking me on a date?”
I mean I think they were one of the OG slash pairings, along with the Star Trek ones...
“You must have been like god...” that line gives me chills every time.
@@TimpanistMoth_AyKayEll It’s only a slash pairing in some regenerations now.
The best part is really the Gallifrey Flashback. That's Dignity and Sound!
References to Harold Saxon were sprinkled through many preceding episodes, the first being Love & Monsters in the previous season (he was mentioned in a headline of the newspaper the Absorbaloff was reading). And did you note the make of the TV the bomb was attached to? It was Magpie Electricals, the name of the TV shop in The Idiot's Lantern. This firm, or at least its name, seems to last for a long time indeed and is mentioned a number of times in different episodes.
he was mentioned in love and monsters?! omg i never knew!!
I'm not sure if it came out after this but in even one Torchwood episode you can see posters for him on the doors of a building
I think my favourite moment of Season 3 was the Doctor explaining the Master’s backstory on Gallifrey.
Seeing the planet for the first time and the Citadel after all its buildup and Tennant’a narration of the events accompanied by Gold’s brilliant score.
It’s just a beautiful moment in this episode and series.
Seeing it for the first time (in New Who)
So wait, the Master was on Earth right after the Christmas Invasion? So while Rose and the Doctor were having fun during series 2, he was running around Earth?
I only just realized this.
Never play cards with Katrina...because her poker face is strong,on another note Paula will probably lose her mind in the next episode because of well we know why...."You knew the whole time"
_"I like it when you use my name."_
_"You chose it. Psychiatrist's field day."_
When I first saw this episode in 2007 (seven years old) I didn't know the word _psychiatrist._ I thought the Doctor was saying that the Master had decided on his name during some special Gallifreyan festival called "Saint Kyatrist's Field Day". I pictured children queueing in a tent to step forth and declare their name.
I finally get to talk about a really interesting bit of information that recently got released! So when they were in pre production for series one and had started writing Russell t Davies and co were very concerned that they weren't going to be able to get the rights to use daleks. (Those were wrapped up in a separate estate.) So they had come up with a plan in case they were unable to use daleks. The toclafane were going to be the race of beings the time lords fought against in the time war and it would be a lone toclafane that rose met in series 1. Theres another extra detail that would have been in the finale of series 1 but I cant talk about it without spoiling next episode so I'll finish it when that one comes out! Love you ladies!
This episode definitely is...a hell of a lot darker now than it was then, when you think about it.
especially if you read the book 'the story of martha' which in narrative fots in between this episode and the last.
Three years ago, but... how so? Lol.
6:33 Katrina looks mesmerised :)
The Master is so camp, I love him
Paula: "The Master, is very dark and violent."
Long-time Fans: Yes.
Paula: "But also cartoonishly over-the-top."
Long-time Fans: Also yes.
HERE COMES THE DRUMS, HERE COMES THE DRUMS!!!
On one of the DVD special features, he said he looked just like his dad in the make up.
This really is the perfect reaction video format for rewatching something you love: You get to share your love of the material (and of what's coming) with Katrina and her knowing looks to camera, but you still get to re-experience the joy of a first watch with Paula. I don't know if anyone else is doing this, but it's a brilliant innovation on the reaction vid. Thank you both for a fun time!
(It's also a great way to review the story arcs, since it doesn't take as long as watching a full episode.)
Also blindwave do this format with more people. This format works so well.
@@beckybarr2559 Oh that's true; I've watched a few of their show watchings, but IIRC the ones I saw they had either all seen or all not seen. Can't remember which ones I saw though.
@@beckybarr2559 I did just watch their reaction vid to "Blink", but IIRC none of them had seen it. And it was great watching Eric get freaked out by all statues everywhere now. :-)
Here come the drums, here come the drums!! Katrina: you're enjoying Paula's bewilderment too much. (In a good way). Paula: the Master has always been bat-shit crazy. Loved this reaction 👍👍
The Doctor Who Completely Useless Encyclopedia defines the Master as "nuttier than squirrel shit." The Doctor puts it a little more poetically here.
"Here come the drums,Here come the drums."
It's finally Who'sday. I need this vid today to cheer me up. It would have been my dad's 74th birthday today.
Katrina’s face at 14:10 😂😂😂
I still do the Master tap.
"This was the most surprised I've been the entire series." - Boy, Paula has NO IDEA... :D
How many times in this Series have you heard the name Saxon!! Paula, I hoped you would have thought it was strange but it slipped right past you. Not to worry. Enjoyed both your Reactions to this story and still one to go.
Cant wait to see how Paula reacts to the reveal of who the Toclafane are
Here come the drums.
Yeah, I don't anyone every accused this depiction of the Master as being undersold, nuanced or subtle.
Basically this was original infinity Wars before there was an infinity War
The sound of two hearts beating.
To me John Simm's incarnation of the Master is rather reminiscent of Gene Hackman's portrayal of Lex Luthor.
The days when 15 satellites was a lot... (SpaceX launched 60 the other week.)
Fantastic reactions, and good guesses on Paula's part.
hehe, thanks!
Paula's face at the end of the episode!
The second US President to visit the UK in the same week lol
Katrina's glee is palpable.
Schadenfreude ist die schönste Freude!
The cabinet scene reminds me very much of a certain scene from Rick and Morty (though this came first, I believe).
Captain Phoenix by about 10 years yes
Oh yeah saved last episode so I can watch these two together ❤️
He is SUCH a good Master. And I have seen them all.
Although there are a couple other excellent ones.
And now we find out the secret of the Face of Boe.
Great video all the way from England
Nice, right on queue for my tea! :D
Kat's resting smugface is amazing.
Ha, that's perfect! She needs a shirt with RESTING SMUGFACE. Paula's can say YOU KNEW ALL ALONG.
"MeToo, c'mon!" LOL smh
Please don't make us wait too long for the finale!
Finally Paula! I have been waiting for this!
The Master is awesome but you don't want him to be
Nothing better than an awesone villain!
This Master may have saw and/or fought along side John Hurt "War Doctor" aka the real 9th Doctor which is kinda cool
Here come the drums...
Perfect timing! First! Enjoy the ep. Its gonna be a doozy! Especially the next one. He is a great villian ;)
If anything I think this episode broke Paula even more than the last one...
Cardiff doubles for everything even Brighton looks nothing like our sea front when Martha calls her brother 😭
1:00 and there is the addiction every who fan has
Can't wait for the next one and then next season finale!!
I admit that I've only been dipping in and out of these (I REALLY enjoy the ones I've seen!) so I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but: Are you planning to react to Torchwood and if so, when, season-wise? (Since you haven't been interleaving it with Le Who up to this point, which I will slightly grudgingly agree is A Valid Choice.)
Voodoo Child playing might have been the low point of the entire series.
idk we've still got the resolution to the next episode
I liked it cuz it fit the insanity that is the master, i remember grinning like crazy when it first played, but my grin faltering and my jaw dropping when the sky opened...it worked in a weird way
People's of the world, please attend carefully....
'Dark and cartoonishly over the top' describes the Master perfectly! He's a total fruitcake in ALL his regenerations..☺
The next 2 episodes are awesome,
Have you watched Torchwood?
Oh !!!!! When dr who was good !!
You all should watch the first 2 seasons of torchwood before finishing season 4.
Now that we have voted for Trump & Brexit, voting for Harold Saxon doesn't feel ike such a mistake anymore :D
So many biblical references in this episode.
Oh, the irony of the American president saying the Brits elected an ass...
Don't think I haven't noticed you stopped counting deaths. This is sloppy, ladies! But these vidoes are great :D
It gets easy to stop counting once you hit 600 million.
@@davidblauyoutube Yeah, the counting in itself didn't give me much, but there's potentially great entertainment value in watching someone trying to count to 600 M one line at a time. Missed opportunity.
hahaha you caught us! ;)
You guys should really watch Torchwood
So from the points ur making about the Master it sounds like u've only watched the reboot episodes. U should try going back and watching older episodes because there's much more stuff involving the master
The kid who played the young master died several years ago, so yeah.
Like a lot of Russell’s finales this has a great set up, followed by a somewhat disappointing second part. Probably my favourite John Simm, he is so ridiculous.
lawrencegough that’s because the resolution is usually a cop-out.
I like this part but i got a lot of beefs with the next part of this Series finale
"Since Britain elected an a$$, yes"
Say the man from country that elected Donald Trump as president.
I've said it in the last video and I'll say it again. Classic Master (Roger Delgado) is the best. I never liked the new series Master.
Everyone has their favorites.
I actually like Derek Jacobi as the Master the most. Don't get me wrong, Delgado was amazing, but Sir Derek was the only Master who I found genuinely frightening (and _The Master of Callous_ is my all-time favourite Master story).
I agree that Delgado was the best, but I'd have loved to see more of Derek Jacobi, as he was superb in Utopia. Apart from that, I didn't much care for the Master during Tennant's era. This is largely down to Russell T Davies and not John Simm, who is a fine actor who gave 100% in each performance. It's too bad that RTD decided to write him as a nutcase with superpowers. I won't say anymore because... spoilers :)
@@ftumschk If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend listening to the _War Master_ audio dramas by Big Finish for more of Sir Derek's Master. They're excellent, and the first episode is even available for free!
I'm the odd one out, I think. My favorite is the Macqueen Master. Listening to him opposite a more hard core Eighth Doctor is just amazing. czcams.com/video/yGF9iK_Luvw/video.html
The next episode is what ruins season 3 for me. It's just so over the top and ridiculous. I laughed when I first saw it. On the plus side, once season 3 is out of the way, season 4 is much better.
Season 4 is amazing 😍😍😍
This is when I started disliking the modern Doctor Who, the season-long arcs where random bits are crammed together with a 10 minute flood of absurd exposition. It makes the earlier episodes seem like fodder for the big reveal. Meanwhile the villain has unbelievable super powers and is committing genocide on a massive scale.
And you think that last bit never happened in Classic Who? Hmmm.
@@ms_scribbles There were 2 cases of season long arcs but they were presented upfront. They weren't dropping unexplained breadcrumbs.
Love these reactions ♥️
But the previous episodes weren’t pointless. Every episode helped develop Martha & the Doctor as characters. Story stuff didn’t always happen but in terms of the story of their relationship, the episodes certainly were not fodder.
He's too young to have watched classic
