    Nice job Patrick. I think the video sums up where the camera business is right now. Cameras being produced for more niche or new markets; creators, live streamers, cinematic stock footage peeps, instagrammers. I totally concur with holding off. Sold my GH5 and holding on to M43 glass until the GH6 appears. Cheers!

    I'm very interested in how they'll implement the upcoming wired IP streaming in the GH5 2. I don't even know if it's possible but if they can run that signal along with power over a single usb-c it would be killer... the deo they did of IP streaming on the BGH-1 was super impressive. I've been holding off on an upgrade for a while and was sooo close to pulling the trigger on a gh5 several times over the last few years..

    When it comes down to people saying the s5 lenses are too big, you can go aps-c mode and use smaller lenses, and vintage is the best way, especially if your all manual anyways. You can get a 24-70 l mount for 2k or cop several different vintage primes.

    • @impatrickt
      @impatrickt  Před 3 lety +4

      Unfortunately the aps-c mode is considerably noisier though and I’d rather just use a good aps-c camera that doesn’t have 30 min record limit and better AF. even my XT3 is a better aps-c camera than the S5.
      The S5 is best when it’s in full frame. I even use the HD 60 just to avoid the aps-c crop in 4K 60 😂
      I have a video on vintage lenses for the S5 but in FF.

      I really love my G85-it’s a great camera. It lacks 4K60 and the 1080 is a low bitrate for some reason, but the ergonomics, unlimited recording limit, and the 4K30 are gorgeous. I picked up a G9 recently too, and it’s not a bad option instead of a GH5. Firmware updates make it really great at video. It has 4K60 but with recording limits all around and the buttons aren’t as good (the shutter button is soft and easy to accidentally press or not press), but a nice B-roll camera to complement camera to the G85:) Good luck-hope the prices settle down!

    Hi Patrick. I really appreciate your videos and reviews. That's why I want to ask you this question: I am creating my brand based on documentarys for CZcams and I am working with a GH4 and a meke 25mm f 2.8. On the way I realize I definitely need a good zoom lens to continue my work. So I could invest in a Lumix 12-35 2.8 but then I think that lens is not that great, so I am thinking in the Leica 10-25 which I think is the perfect zoom range for my work. But then I realized that the cost of that lense is almost the same than a Lumix S5 with the kit lens, that result being a similar zoom range. In one hand would be great to invest in this Leica so when I can afford a GH5 or even a GH6 would be a great combo. But in the other hand that S5 would also be great for it's characteristics and it's zoom great/cheap lense. So.... May I ask you for your opinion?

    I agree. I have the GH5 Mk2 and I thing the auto focus is quite good. I have two GH5s as well. I shoot multicam live theatre, concerts, and dance shows. I use the Mk2 for close ups. The others are static shots. I really like the fact that I can power the camera by USB. If you want to do this be sure that you have a USB battery that is capable. The first time I tried this the camera shut down because I was using a standard USB battery.

  • @Ulrich.Bierwisch

    I watch a number of videos about the GH5-II and everybody said it's a GH5 with a few improvements. The obvious ones like 60p 10bit, better AF, the battery and then everybody showed some other improvements and every time it was something else. So I made a list and it got longer and longer. In total the GH5-II is much more improved then it appeared in the first place and I expect most of this will be included in the GH6 and other new cameras in the future. I'm happily waiting for the GH6-specs now.

    • @impatrickt
      @impatrickt  Před 3 lety

      I mean yeah… you can list out on paper what’s different or improved but practically speaking it’s not much - at least not anything that translates into some drastically different user experience. it’s a slightly better GH5. the 4K 60 10 bit stuff is kind of old news now in the camera world. if you get one in hand and you have a mark I gh5 you might not even realize you’re using a new model.

    • @Ulrich.Bierwisch
      @Ulrich.Bierwisch Před 3 lety +1

      @@impatrickt I don't upgrade my GH5 just because the GH5-II is better and has a lot of improvements. I even kept using the GH3 and jumped over the GH4 because I didn't need 4k at that time. But some of the improvements are more or less directly matching my wish-list: linear manual focus, single AF in VFR before recording, up to 13 presets (compared to 5), named presets, red frame when recording - just to name the things that are important for me but not so often discussed in the videos.
      Since I'm pretty sure all the changes will also be available or further improved in the GH6, I'm now more or less tending towards buying this early when it comes out. To me it looks like Panasonic is heading into the right direction.
      There is one thing I haven't found about the GH5-II. If I switch to auto-ISO, aperture or time in video, the camera don't show what is used. I've heard this has been changed in some of the S cameras but I would like to know if it also is changed in the GH5-II.

      @@Ulrich.Bierwisch WHAT... You can autofocus before recording a slo-mo shot in the GH5ii?!!!! Not a single reviewer has mentioned this so far! I'm going to buy one now knowing this. There is a one hour live stream with Sean Robinson every Thursday on the Lumix Cameras channel. The GH6 is the big thing. The GH-5ii allows the newest firmware that goes in the G9 and S series and the GH5s. Focus is fine but the pulsing background may still bother. Block your shot and manual focus it is that critical. My G7 was bad but the newest are much better. Don't know why phase detect is not in these cameras. Then the perfect camera.

    As I see it (close to suggested here) is that GH-5 ii - isn´t an "upgrade" in the sense that if you have GH-5 you should buy GH-5 ii. Instead I see it as prolonging the life of the legendary GH5 by adding some features, mainly for people who buy it as a (first) new camera. I have a G85 and I mostly use it for photography, even I always I have in mind I have to start with video... anyway, my question is did you notice much difference in terms of image quality from the G85 to the GH5? Thanks

    • @impatrickt
      @impatrickt  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah. GH5 is a lot better at everything.

    • @godsakes
      @godsakes Před 2 lety +2

      The GH5 is definitely better as it's using the full sensor then downsampling and it has the option for 10bit codec but I personally think the g85 is more than good enough to start your journey with. If you're at that stage there's a 101 things you could invest in that'll probably make a bigger impact on your footage/production such as audio (mics/recorders), or lighting, or gimbals etc depending on your use case/projects.

      @@thewalkingvloggingman7152 the G9 is worth considering... the G95/90 is a turkey, worse than the G85/80, they basically tried to pack in the GH5 sensor without upgrading the CPU to handle it and the result was massive 4k crop and worse image quality.

    If you don't already have micro 4/3 lenses, there is no reason to get a GH5II when the Panasonic S5 exists and for the same price. I always tell people, there is not a better camera for $2000 than the Panasonic S5. Especially with these great, feature rich firmware updates they keep releasing.

    Question from a newbie: I want to create close up videos of birds eating seed off the deck in my backyard very similar to this example ( czcams.com/video/XDrB5c4-c9Y/video.html ). I want to run the video camera for very long periods of time so it must resist overheating so that is why I am considering a Panasonic GH5ii but I am concerned about Panasonic's autofocus. Do you think this type of video could be created with manual focus ? Do you think the autofocus of the Panasonic GH5ii is good enough for this type of video ? ( If you think there is a better camera or camcorder option than the Panasonic GH5ii I would be grateful for any advice. I know the Sony A7Siii is also a good option but it is pretty expensive. ) Thank you for your help. PS - I would really be grateful for any advice you can give on this topic.

      even an older sony would be better. you should get something with decent auto focus.
