Delighted with my GH5. Yes, low light is problematic, but I've obtained good results with a Metabones 0.68 Speedbooster and an old Nikkor f1.4 50mm lens. That setup pumps in tons of light.
Autofocus is a problem, I just use manual and the camera has several help functions to make manual focusing easy.

Great overview! I use my GH5 mostly for stills these days, it's become my favorite stills camera I think now because of it's larger size, weight, and solid feel compared other MFT bodies, feels more Pro in the hand and it's durable as hell.

December 2022 and I just ordered the GH5 M2. Price is part of it, but it is mostly because Panasonic chose to remove some features in the GH5 M2 that I like, especially 4K/6K Photo, and live streaming. The live streaming is a big deal for modern social media. The only thing I regret missing out on is the 4K/120 on the GH6. Autofocus is a low priority as I like manual, and Focus Lock is a brilliant feature, and touch to focus makes working with manual a breeze. If I had the extra money I would still buy the GH5 M2, it is a camera that is well suited to my needs. The legend lives on!

Excellent video! I have a GH5, a G85 and am saving up for a GH6, hoping to get it in the first half of next year. Maybe the price will drop a small amount from the initial price. Also, one thing that is important to me that you didn't mention (directly) is that the M4/3 lenses are A LOT smaller than FF ones, especially in the longer focal lengths. This can be good for carrying around a lighter load and attracting less attention when in a third world country or some area where you need to be a little more stealthgy. Oh, one other thing is that having more DOF is IMHO better in general than having lower DOF in the majority of situations. I realize people disagree on this one though:)

Small sensors can have a lot of megapixels. The problem is high megapixels on a small sensor affects light gathering capability. A fast lens with a speedbooster will help. Even cell phone cameras (on the better phones) are better than the broadcast cameras we had in the late 80's.

Really great video! ...of course you know your stuff. I think most GH5 user will probably wait unless they really really need a second GH5. Personally I will just wait and see if Panasonic improves auto focus on the GH6. If that happens then it just might finally be home run for Panasonic. Low light can be fixed with the right lenses. I do agree with you, sell you GH5 and grab a (II) if you need a new GH5 right now. I just do not think the upgrades are enough for 90% of the people watching the video to notice an improve picture between the GH5 & GH5 (II), so why truly upgrade? I suppose if it your money you can spend it anyway you desire.
Be the first to test the GH6 or one of the first when that comes out.
How about your wish list for the GH6?
May they included a built in ND filter.
Have you used the 10-25mm 1.7 or 25 - 50mm 1.7 now that would be a sick video but those lens cost as I know you know a lot.
Will you stay with MFT systems or might you jump to APS-C or full frame?
Not certain if Canon is the best AF period. You have heard of the Sony A1. That camera is a beast! Would love to give you one of those and 50 - 1.2 prime mate.
    🔴Question
In your view who has the best colour science? Would love to hear your choices. Mine are:
    1. Fuji & Canon tie (maybe, just maybe the smallest tiny little edge to Fuji)
    2. Sony
    3. Panasonic
Sony & Panasonic are very close though
Really looking fwd to your next video mate, keep up the awesome work. Thank you!

(10:00) Actually your can set a total of three separate focus points, for three different focus pulls. Let’s not sell this beast too short. Also, surprised there was no mention of live crop mode. A feature that basically allows you to shoot a slider move effect in camera. Fuji X-T3 nor any of the Sony a6000 series cameras has anything on the GH5, and especially now the GH5II, the AF is on point by comparison…

I'm a complete beginner but I have the patience to learn so it's not a big deal for me, moreover that I would like to keep the camera for years. I have a maximum budget of 700$. • @bahaatamer1245
      @bahaatamer1245 Před 2 lety +3

I recently got the 90D, and I plan to use it for CZcams and outside videos as well. If you want something that looks good out of the camera in terms of colors, a long battery life, does well in both photos and videos, and a ton of lens options for various uses (but with an APS-C sized sensor instead of full frame!), this one is a beast, but obviously DSLRs are heavier so there's that.
Get the 90D + Sigma 18-35, and that's 80% of your daily use already covered.
Only problem is, this setup weighs 1.5kg (with most of the weight from just the lens!).

If you want something easy and user-friendly go with the canon and if you really want bleeding edge technology go with the Sony

You are spoiled for choices. The Sigma Holy Trinity is an affordable trio that gives you f1.4 across a good range of focal lengths. An expensive choice but my workhorse are the 12-35 and 35-100 f2.8. great video lenses. A cheaper option is the mostly forgotten about 14-42 PZ and 45-175 PZ Can be bought used on eBay for very little, and they give you smooth power zooms for video. the 45-175 is a wonderful little lens. Sharp and good reach. Apertures are slower, but you get small size in return.

The Sigma 18-35mm/1.8 with a a Viltrox speed-booster would be a good way to go too. The GH5 is capable of good low light performance, you just need the right glass. Also, a set of f.95 Voigtlanders are amazing for low light, especially the 25mm. I shoot a lot of low light, but mainly use M.Zuiko Pro f1.2 lenses, the 45mm & 17mm. Panasonic has the Leica 42.5 mm/f1.2 Nocticron which is probably the best optically perfect µ4/3 lens made, shy of the M.Zuiko 75mm/f1.8. Point being, there are ample choices available to get good low light shots…

When I film myself inside I have no problem with pixelation of my body moving even on short 1 min test films.
When I film myself outside in bright contrasty light, my body becomes pixelated when I move but the stable background is sharp.
What causes the film to become pixelated with movement?
I have tried so many things to try to correct this.
One thing I notice is that the file that shows up on my iMac will look like a QuickTime icon instead of a frame for the icon.
I am filming in MOV with 1920x1080p, 23.9p, 420/8 bit/GOP, LPCM, VFR available with a SanDis Pro 128GB SCXC-UHS SD card.

What causes a moving image in a video to become pixelated? My still photos in this same light are fine.
