- It was a hot day as usual in Bamako, Mali when the PFC crew met Tinariwen, a group of Tuareg blues musicians, in front of a downtown club. We walked around the neighborhood together, looking for a good place to film and record. Luck was with us and we soon found a nearby yard with a large tree for shade. The next thing we knew the music started playing, children gathered for their own personal concert, and we all transcended to a place with no time, no fear, and no difference between us.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

I had the absolute joy to visit Mali 3 years ago, and music like this is what it's all about. Brings back some memories. :)
when I bought their CD I was overpowered by emotion & felt kindness blowing from the Mali desert breeze all the way to Australia. I love this song especially & am grateful to now know the lyrics.

Definitely a change from the more popular music which we hear and see these days. Love their performance at the FIFA World Cup 2010-something very novel to me

I spent the day and still the following night,
I spent the day and still the following night,
I spent my time
I spent a whole time
You've gone Mila you've already gone and I've plunged deeper into my dreams
Whatever my thoughts, she occupies them all and my heart cries out still.
It's a time that separates the beloved from those they love
And when you think of them, painful obsessive thoughts are all that .
+Kitty Scherbatskaya thank you
Thank you brother/sister!

@yosoyjosue
[1st verse/Chorus:]
I spend the day and still the following night
I spent a whole season travelling
I spend the day and still the following night
I spent a whole season travelling
[2nd verse:]
You've gone, Mila, you've already gone and I've plunged deeper into my dreams
Whatever my thoughts, she occupies them all, and my heart cries out still
@yosoyjosue Understand so much without experience or intense study that is.

@CPS222
[3rd verse:]
I's a time which separates the beloved from those they love
And when you think of them, painful obsessive thoughts are all that come.
@laydbakk1 Isn't all music about protest, or love? Either way, yes.
عام واش هاد تاسعين ولا تمانين ههه
@screaminliner Looks like hes playing a right handed bass left handed. Like Albert King.
@CPS222 Thanks! The reason that I bring it up is that while the description of this video says the music transcends difference, this is not true. For one, I doubt that the English-speaking folks that recorded this understand the Tuareg language. Second, I doubt that they understand the meaning of this song beyond its literal translations. It is important to remember that while sounds themselves are extremely evocative, listeners from "outside" cultures can only understand so much.
@NoisqueVoaProduction that would be me
unfortunatly theres the choir members missing!
Where are the translations for the lyrics?!
@forzaitalia5910Right on, brother!
can someone tell me if that drum is Djembe?
Yes It Is… It's A Common Drum All Around West Africa.. :-)
1:10 The microphone protection looks to being made of goatskin
Now they are 29, I do not know what bring deaf people here?
لي يعيش في الصحراء ويبات فيها في الليل وحدو يعرف بزاف حوايج اييييييه يا التوارق راكم فهميني٠
Well, I would like a translated lyric. This is not sung in one of the languages I know. The musicianship is OK, but what are we "celebrating."
I have no idea what he was singing about... I'm guessing it was some sort of Far East type folk song either protesting something, or maybe asking for peace and love, helping the poor, persecuted, or under-privileged... Don't know... Could have used English subtitles for that... But, whatever it was about, I enjoyed the general feel of it...
26 Misratan Rats!
15 deaf people :(
черепушки на ремне гитары, кожаные ботинки )))
oh my. im so sorry i accidentally clicked the dislike button. maybe that's also the reason of them other 24.. bobbing head from Philippines!
WTF!? estaba mejor con los covers de Bob.
The guitar is really annoying..
