If this was managed properly and with corrective repairs, this again could become quite the tourist attraction and moneymaker. The really BIG problem is that it begins in a posh neighborhood and the residents won't have it.

Will the city hold the contractor to their bid? Or will we end up paying double or triple for the work done? Contractors need to be held to the deal without inflating it later.

Residents do not matter , always state funding is what is important . State should fix and maintain this cash cow instead of raising property tax . Have it organized that one must book the climb no walk ins . This is a attraction like no other .Give the property owners a small tax break for in convenience after all they bought knowing stairs are a attraction , really do not feel sorry for them but be fair give them a tax break .

No way would they have increased property tax being we are still recovering from the effects financially of the pandemic. Even grocery stores are taking advantage of us . Same item can increase by almost a dollar from one day to they next and it's not a new shipment it's the same item from the day before . The state just loves to waste money. They spent $12.45 Billion on the rail project. The state estimates about 9k riders everyday (which is likely an inflated number) at $3 a ride. 9,000 riders × $3 × 365 days = $9,855,000 per year. 12,450,000,000 ÷ 9,855,000 = 1,263.32 years to make the money back. That doesn't include operating and maintenance costs. Instead of starting other projects, why don't they try to recuperate some of that money. If the Kaneohe community is fed up with "trespassers" they can pay for the dismantling themselves.
