  • This was the original Carol of the Bells. A Ukrainian song. Yet, we all know this song as something else when a British dude took the music.
Ad for my Ukrainian viewers, З Різдвом Христовим.

"Shchedryk" is a world-famous work for the choir of the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych, created at the beginning of the 20th century.
After the tours of Oleksandr Koshyts' choir in European countries in 1919 (Czechoslovakia, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Spain) and in the USA in 1922, Shchedryk became known not only in Ukraine, but also in the whole world.
After in 1936, the popular American composer of Ukrainian origin Petro Vilgovsky wrote a series of English lyrics to the composition "Shchedryk", his English version known as "Carol of the Bells" (Carol of the Bells) became one of the most popular Christmas carols in the world .
Nowadays, "Schedryk" can be heard in all corners of the world in English, German, Spanish, Japanese, etc.

It was sung by Ukrainian Republic Capella in 1920s when they toured Americas including the US. And guess what? Although they called themselves Ukrainians, which is obvious from the name of the Capella, Americans frequently advertised them as “Russians”, which was a spit in the face, cause at that moment Ukrainians fought for their independence from Russia, just like 100 years later. This shows both how ignorant and brainwashed by Russia were the Americans and that Russia never changes. It does now what it did 100 years ago

Said he didn’t stop because she probably had more money then him and he couldn’t afford to pay her bills. Literally left her in freezing temperatures on the ground and she could’ve died. Did a bunch of other scummy stuff as well, so I’m not sure id say all Ukrainians are magical. They’re about the same as everyone else in the world some good some bad

Thank you from Ukraine! I wish you knew how many masterpieces, inventions, and gifted people in different areas Ukraine gave to the world, but the world does not know their origin in Ukraine or from Ukrainians in different parts of the world who just were escaping USSR ... I bet you would be very surprised. Heroyam Slava! One of such people is Ihor Sikorskyi, Ukrainian engineer, aircraft designer, entrepreneur, one of the pioneers of aircraft construction, designer of the first amphibious aircraft in the USA, the "father" of world helicopter construction. He created the "Grand" ("Russian Knight") and "Ilya Muromets" airplanes, which marked the beginning of multi-engine aviation and set a world record for carrying capacity. After the Second World War, his company Sicorski Air Engineering became the leading manufacturer of helicopter equipment abroad. in March 1919 he moved to the USA. In 1925-1940 he developed a series of extremely successful aircraft that brought prestige and records to the USA. Built in 1934 for Pan American World Airways, the Sikorsky S-42 seaplane set ten world records, and the 10 serial S-42s became the world's first intercontinental passenger liners to provide scheduled flights across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. From 1939, he switched to the design of single-screw helicopters. He was the first to build turbine helicopters and amphibious helicopters. In 1939, the VS-300 helicopter designed by him made its first flight. Since 1943, his company has become a leading manufacturer of helicopter equipment abroad. Sikorsky helicopters of the "S" brand in 1941 were adopted by the US Armed Forces. In total, Sikorsky's company - "Sikorsky Aircraft" created 17 basic aircraft and 18 helicopters. With the acquisition of licenses for the production of machines of this brand, the development of helicopter construction in Great Britain and France began. The high guarantee of flights on I. Sikorsky's helicopters is evidenced by the fact that they are constantly used by US presidents as VIP vehicles. Sikorsky S-61 helicopters made the first flight across the Atlantic (S-61; 1967) and the Pacific Ocean (S-61; 1970; with mid-air refueling). In Ukraine, it was first invented in Ukraine by Ukrainians: Lviv residents first created a kerosene lamp in 1983 / X-ray machine / cholera vaccine / in 1983, 2 Ukrainian scientists Yosif Timchenko and Mykola Lyubimovych created a kinescope long before the French Lumiere brothers as everyone in the world thinks... Ukrainians simply did not patent the invention/ in 1940, the Ukrainian engineer Sikorskyi built the first helicopter, and since then all American presidents have exclusively used helicopters of this brand/ in 1932, the first indexing system for letters (mail) was created in Ukraine/ a scientist from Transcarpathia (Ukraine) first invented a glucometer - a device for measuring blood sugar/ Ivan Polyuy, my countryman, 14 years before the German William Röntgen, first invented the trebka, which became the prototype of X-ray machines, and it was Ivan Polyuy who was the first in the world to take an X-ray picture of the human skeleton, and by the way, Einstein too believed that a German and a Ukrainian did not deserve the championship/ Volodymyr Khavkin was the first in the world to invent a vaccine against cholera and plague and while on an expedition to India/ on April 1, 1933, in Kyiv, surgeon Yuriy Voronyi performed the world's first transplant of an entire organ - a kidney, ahead of the development of transplantology by 20 years/ in the early 1870s, the Ukrainian Fedir Pirotskyi invented technology for transmitting electricity through an iron wire...a in 1880 presented a project of using electricity for the movement of trains...and a year later the world's first tramway based on this technology set off in Germany...by the way, this technology is still used by the Siemens company/ Whatsapp messenger was developed by a Ukrainian in 2014 sold to Facebook / one of the people who literally invented the Internet - Leonard Kleinrock is a Ukrainian... and in 1969 he invented the technology of transmitting messages on the Internet .. i.e. the prototype of modern messengers / Ukrainian Serhiy Korolev (not Russian as he thinks) developed and launched the first artificial Earth satellite, the world's first intercontinental ballistic missile, and launched the first humans into space Well, into space. All nuclear developments of the Soviet Union were mainly developed by Ukrainian scientists in the city of Kharkiv....it is there that the first nuclear collider in the Soviet Union is located. And now Russia is bombing us with our missiles, which it took from us in 1997 and uses our developments. The first submarine was invented in the 16th century by Ukrainian Cossacks. The largest and most powerful AN-225MRIA cargo plane was built in Ukraine in 1988, which set 240 world records. In February, the Russians bombed MRYU. The prototype of the first compact disc was created by a graduate student in Kyiv in the early 1960s...western companies created their compact disc only in the early 80s.
Prominent Americans of Ukrainian origin - Dustin Hoffman/ Steven Spielberg/ Leonardo DiCaprio/ Sylvester Stallone/ Mila Jovovich/ Leni Kravitz yes yes...his grandfather is Ukrainian/ Steve Tyler/ Jack Palance/ Edward Gottlieb from Kyiv who created the American Basketball Association. Sorry.. .maybe you are not interested in it, but I really want the whole world to finally learn about Ukraine. That we are not part of Russia and have never been. Kyiv was founded in the 10th century...and Moscow only in the 16th century. The first universities in Europe were created in Ukraine. Just write on the Internet about outstanding Americans of Ukrainian origin and you will be surprised.I want to shout to the whole world what Ukraine and Ukrainians are!!!!!!!!!!! The music was written in 1916, and the lyrics are very old and date a thousand years back when Ukrainians were pagans. Carol of the Bells.

In general, Mykola Leontovych as a composer wrote only the music for the song, the song itself is ritual, folk and very ancient. The song is traditionally sung on New Year's, but the song is about a swallow that has just returned. Swallows that produce their offspring on the territory of Ukraine spend the winter in sub-Saharan Africa and return in the spring and not for the New Year. The fact is that in the pre-Christian period, our ancestors celebrated the New Year during the vernal equinox. And the introduction of Christianity in Rus (Rus has nothing to do with Russia and had its capital in Kyiv) at the official level took place in 988. So this song may be more than a thousand years old.

Fun fact: this song has nothing to do with Christianity.
The thing is that this is one of the calendar-ritual songs of the winter cycle. Such songs have little to do with Christianity, because their existence is the result of paganism.
Ukraine has a long history. Even though we adopted Christianity back in the 10th century, Ukrainians kept pagan traditions all this time.

From "Shchedryk" to "Carol Of The Bells" is what folk singer Pete Seeger called "The Folk Process".
"Shchedryk" was first heard in the US when the Ukrainian National Chorus performed it at Carnegie Hall (NY) October 5, 1922.
Among the audience that evening, it's been said, was a young music student named Peter J Wilhousky, of Carpathian/Rusyn (Western Ukraine) heritage. He composed English words for the music and called it "Carol Of The Bells" in 1936.
In 1944, Wilhousky composed a world-famous choral arrangement for "Battle Hymn Of The republic" which has been sung by choral groups nationwide ever since.
