    AMA Doctors know nothing about herbs, medicinal teas, tinctures, essential oils and the like. If you bother to consult the average American Medical Association Doctor about these, health foods or supplements, you will likely be talked out of using any of them.

      T Young It's because it goes against the policy of the standard procedure of the AMA. If it's a natural cure they are Not allowed to suggest it. They worked very hard and paid a lot of money for school. They can not afford to have their license revoked

      Denise DeMise
      We all know this Denise, I was just making a comment. The worst part is that our socialized medicine and Insurance tyranny will not pay for anything except poisonous pharmaceutical drugs, chemo or radiation or invasive procedures of which there are many pending class action lawsuits. WE NEED TO CHANGE THIS!
      Those Drs worked hard and paid a lot of money and NOW will not allow themselves to believe that they were duped, lied to and just plain brainwashed by the Pharmaceutical Cartel.

    I just started watching this series, though I've been a fan for a long time. I too am getting into herbs (purchasing them - I have a very red thumb!) I suffer from great anxiety and occasional depression and I'm trying not to take too many pharmaceuticals or manufactured drugs. I'm looking for things to calm the nerves and give a sense of well-being as an alternative to benzodiazapine drugs that my doctor has me on. I've tried kava and valerian, to limited success. I hear chamomile and lemon balm can work too.
    Although I'm not a gardener, I hope through your videos I can learn to buy herbs and make tinctures from them that will make them more potent/effective.

      Hi, have you checked out cbd oil? It's legal and it really works... Research on line what strengths best for you, also make sure there using the flower rather than industrial hemp.. I can recommend the cbd brothers uk. White edition, it just works unbelievable for me.. There are others on line cheaper,that are just as good if you look into it. I really hope this helps your search... I think it's amazing.

    Alcohol tinctures only work to extract polar chemicals. Non-polar chemicals such as fatty acids and oils can not. Additionally, the shelf life of a tincture varies depending upon the chemical in question and may be affected by light, heat, exposure to oxygen, and or any physical / chemical (i.e., thermodynamic) interactions which occur between any number of solutes or the actual solvent.

    I was wondering if a tincture is similar to an extract. When making face moisturisers, I will only add up to 5% of an herbal extract in total (due to Australian laws) Such as: Cucumber, Sea Buckthorn, Olive Leaf etc. These extracts are based on glycerine/water ratio or alcohol. I have made my own extracts with alcohol and also with glycerine and water. I just would like to clear up the terminology:) I have asked around out here in OZ and get the same answer, 'I suppose'!!! Is it, or isn't it???

      A TINCTURE IS MADE WITH ALCOHOL AND OTHER MENTRUUM. SO YES WHAT YOU ARE MAKING IS ESSENTIALLY A TINCTURE. AN EXTRACT IS ALSO CALLED AN INFUSION WHICH IS BASICALLY MAKING EXTRACTING THE PLANTS MEDICINAL PROPERTIES INTO WATER (IE A TEA I SUPPOSE).

It is an Australian book, but Isabella explains in simple terms everything you need to know about herbs, their uses, how to grow, to cultivate, what to use them in, etc. It is worth getting the book. You would find that the herbs in Australia are very similar to Europe (if you don't live in OZ) and this book has certainly helped me.

      Empowering Medicine ✪ Herbalist I can only speak for the U.S., but unfortunately doctors don't prescribe herbs because they're not trained in them, because they're not FDA approved, because the drug companies don't make them, because they can't patent them and thus there's no money to be made. Also unfortunately, the FDA's (Food and Drug Association) responsible for regulating drugs approval process is run by psychiatrists who receive money from major pharmaceutical companies to do their research. The medical journals are kept afloat by pharmaceutical ads and if they stopped prescribing their drugs they'd no longer buy the ads. That's the sad part about it.

      +Empowering Medicine ✪ Herbalist Due to the FDA oversight and its regulatory process a person in the US (and I believe its the same in the UK) is not allowed to make any health claims lest these claim have been signed off by the FDA, As vitalhome pointed out the FDA is a front for the pharmaceutical industry and therefore only operates in corporate interests. Consequently an Herbalist cannot proscribe and herb by saying it help with a particular condition. Otherwise it is very possible to face prosecution. Therefore when some states that you should first consult with your physician they are basically saying that to cover their ass.

      You can most definitely use barks, roots and other pieces of the plant to make a tincture as well as long as you make sure they are safe to use beforehand. Some herbs make a very bitter tincture, you could also add vegetable glycerine and water, which also helps soak up parts of the plant that aren't necessarily alcohol soluable.

    can you heat up the tincture to speed up the process ?

    • @windstorm1000
      @windstorm1000 Před 8 lety

      +prototype9000 heat sometimes destroys herbal medicinals or makes them less effective.

      +windstorm1000 from what i read only if the heat is to high if you keep it under the boiling point of alcohol it can speed the process without destroying anything

      In the suggested dose, it is very small. However, you may wish to boil a small bit of water, place the tincture in water and let the solution sit for 10 minutes while the alcohol is evaporated.

    Can I use apple cider vinegar instead of vodka?

    • @PsychoticAnarchist69
      @PsychoticAnarchist69 Před 8 lety +1

      Yes though if you're using a substitute for alcohol, the maceration time doubles. However to add strength to the tincture, you could actually keep the herb body, burn it, pulverise the charred body, then continue to incinerate it, but don't let it actually catch fire. Then run distilled water over it. Throw away the body, and evaporate the distilled water. What's remaining should be the salts in the plant that you would've thrown out! It's a bit more work, but I think it's worth the effort. ::::)

      +betternursing it won't bring out all the components of the plant medicine as much as vodka--but its still pretty good.
