I remember watching this episode and noticing that they kept the intro in it's entirety. This is weird because usually (and it was the case with most other episodes) they cut down the intro and credits due to differences in advertisement time. (7.5 Minutes per half hour in US versus 6 minutes per half hour in Japan) So I thought: "What did they cut out". And then I noticed how much shorter this scene was on Toonami. And I chuckled.
I will never be able to wrap my head around censorship rules and how weirdly specific they are. Like, I get that we can't have Ragyo finger-banging her daughter. Okay, sure, that's fair (it was a weird scene to begin with). But we CAN have steam-censored nudity. We can't show Ryuko's underboob, but it's okay from any other angle. Or if it's a child who doesn't care, let the parents be a parent instead of letting video games, internet, and TV babysit their child. Something like this scene could have been cut down greatly.. it really was awkward and disgusting to see how her mother was acting as a pervert, but that was the entire point. Here in the U.K. Kill la Kill is being aired on a channel called Viceland. They're nice enough to present the original cuts and not the Toonami edit.

Yeah, the scene went a bit too far. However, that doesn't excuse the fact that, while Cartoon Network did its best to clean it up, they failed, just like they do with most censoring. At this point, I'm amazed the network's incompetence over censorship isn't some kind of an Internet meme (TVTropes does mention it on occasion...)

I totally forgot about this scene. Didn't have that much of an impact on me except how scary Ragyo is. Good thing Ryuko came into the picture. I wonder if they gave Ryukos name as maybe to be like Ragyo.

Bullshit, that's not the *whole* point of the scene. This scene is partly fanservicey, that's why it makes most western viewers uncomfortable. It's incest *and* rape and it's presented as fanservice just like the rest of the show, like the viewer is supposed to find it arousing.
