      All the items you mentioned already existed in the old Tie Fighter games though.
      You wanna slow but don't want to lose energy efficiency? Divert power to weapons and shields from the engines (certain Ties have shields. If not, it's just between engines and weapons) (there were 3 energy bars with limited energy distribution. Average was equal but that was weak all around. You fit the according to your playstyle).

      @@enskje No. Star Wars is more complicated than that. The original trilogy was about redemption. You even see it in the the original script, where Vader joined forces with the rebels to stand against imperialism and for honor.
      The prequels was about the rise of fascism, imperialism and the long road towards evil paved with good intentions. War.
      The Sequels was about the roots and the balance between the light and the dark. Family and truth, intertwined with a revisit to standing up against imperialism and again, redemption.

    As brilliant as this entire thing is, what strikes me the most are the little details. The way the Captain follows orders without any protest and abandons the attack run, it’s perfectly in character with a squadron leader. They need to enforce rigid discipline to have any chance of surviving - given the lackluster state of Imperial fighter tactics - and he probably wouldn’t want to commit any of his pilots to a run where they’ll be under fire from at least two warships the entire way. Then the captain of the Overseer (I assume that’s who she is) actually having a sensible strategy and choosing to preserve her remaining assets and retreat rather than fight against terrible odds.
    And when Grey (I think that’s his name?) goes to rescue the TIE bomber, it shows the kind of bond that starfighter pilots have. The Rebels and the Empire probably had very similar ideals in that regard, considering the insanity of taking cheap fighters into space and trying to destroy warships.
    The scene in the wreckage with Grey powering down all his systems is fantastic. There’s not a “power off” switch for every system, he has to individually deactivate everything and rely on what looks to be passive radar (since it isn’t constantly pinging). This is great, passive radar wouldn’t be picked up like active radar would on sensors, so it makes sense. Then the TIE Interceptor starts failing, and the pilot doesn’t seem immediately worried. He’s calm due to extensive training, experience, and the fact that his life support systems don’t require a fully-sealed cockpit unlike the X-Wing.
    The descent through atmosphere is gorgeous, especially the bow wake. And the quick transition into atmospheric dogfighting is equally stunning. It’s reminiscent of modern dogfights when they’re WVR. Shows off the maneuverability advantage of the Interceptor too, as well as the speed advantage.
    The water trails from the ion engines are great. They’re spiraling like trails from an actual jet engine, unlike those seen in The Force Awakens. Beautiful stuff. Finally, the way that the TIE slowly tips down when power is lost, and how it just flies to pieces upon contact with the water. And how the Captain looks like he expects to die. It’s so accurate, which is something that you rarely see from Star Wars. The TIE doesn’t just drop and start spinning, it falls forward gradually because it has to have been designed for atmosphere as well as vacuum. And without a FBW system to keep it stable, aerodynamics takes hold.
    As a final note, it makes me so happy to see that the writers/CG artists chose to keep both the eyes of both the TIE and X-Wing pilots covered until the end. A lot of media will try and humanize one side while demonizing the other just by showing or not showing eyes. As an easy example, having the visors of Rebel pilots in the OT be see-through while the Imperials used fully-enclosed helmets. By putting both pilots here on the same field, the viewer is left to judge them in more unbiased way. To see them both as pilots fighting for their respective sides.
    Edit: Rewatched it, forgot something. The Rebel pilot taunting/insulting the Imperial pilot - who stays silent - again makes total sense. The Captain is focusing only on keeping his Interceptor up and surviving, plus he’s been trained to essentially act without emotions in combat. The Rebel is a lot more...shall we say, open with his feelings. And obviously he’d despise his opponent, so the spite works perfectly

    There’s 2 things I like about this. First, they chose to show this in the perspective of the empire pilot instead of the rebel’s. The rebels were always portrayed as the good guys and the empire were always shown as the bad guys. However, this time, the gave the “bad guy” a face so that we can see the fear and desperation in his eyes and sympathize with him whereas the “good guy” had his eyes covered by the visor and remained stoic the whole time. At the end of the day, both are pilots fighting for what they believe in. The second thing I like is that they chose to show a tie interceptor instead of just an ordinary tie fighter. Tie interceptor pilots are generally more skilled than your typical tie fighter pilots.

Tarkin challenges a young imperial to fight him in order to "toughen" him up and set an example to the rest of the imperials. But the young man hesitates and after showing him his scars all around his body Tarkin says to him, "You think you can opt out? We're fighting for survival against rebel traitors who would murder each and every one of us in our sleep and dance on our graves. Now stand up and fight or I'll kill you where you squat." It's this type of thinking and propaganda that was taught to every loyal imperial and we finally get to see it in the perspective of a tie fighter pilot. I guess a bit of it in BF2 too. At least in CG they wouldn't worry about crappy light saber fight scenes that will lead to someone get cut in half or losing a limb or two. Just voice it and let the CG animation do the rest. Why would an Empire shoot itself in the foot by plundering from itself? The only thing that made sense was anger over the destruction of Alderran but even that should have been easy for media to explain away before the Death Star was announced. There needs to be a series about a soldier who fights despite the odds for the Empire, because s/he believes in the Empire with all his/her heart and knows the empire can restore balance and order to the galaxy. Or a trooper who hates the rebels because of their terrorist tendencies. A true loyalist who we can see is human like us, who we can sympathize with and root for.

    • @darkjediknight2923
      @darkjediknight2923 Před 2 lety +2

      Agreed. This Imperial pilot was a great example. Iden Version SHOULD have been what you said. Instead of what happened. Now THIS is Star Wars. Whoever made this should have been given the honour of making Star Wars saga sequels. So many feels, a proper story and context. Very impressive visual quality and soundtrack as well. Imperials were the good guys all along!

    • @vveisshardt
      @vveisshardt Před rokem +1

      @@darkjediknight2923 absolutely -- this could easily be setup by a flashback to sometime between episodes V and VI with someone like gray as a young adult flying cargo transports for their family's business on an imperial-controlled mid-rim planet. we witness their hometown laid to waste by a terrorist (rebel) strike on the local supply depot and learning his entire family gone in an instant. cut to his enrollment into the imperial flight academy, show us the sleepless nights perfecting advanced maneuvers in the school's TIE-simulator. jump forward to their graduation ceremony interrupted by yet another rebel attack as the new cadets scramble to their fighters before we witness more of their closest friends blown to bits before they can even leave the hangar.
      that's all admittedly a bit generic and off the top of my head but the point is it wouldn't be hard to build a compelling story around perceivably good people who understandably hated the rebellion with all their being. definitely seems like the core SW fan base is hungry for this perspective to be fleshed out into its own film or series.

    • @darkjediknight2923
      @darkjediknight2923 Před rokem

      @@vveisshardt Yes exactly! See, what you yourself have come up with off the top of your head sounds great. And it's crazy how we aren't getting enough of such vision. I will say that I loved the show "Andor" since it partly went into that type of story showing us both the Imperials and Rebel (scum) story. It would be certainly cool if the above clip was an Imperial who genuinely believes the good of the Empire keeping order and combating pirates, insurgents, standing against anarchy etc. And show us the Rebel tactics being not so clean (as was shown in Rogue One). Indeed, if we ever got a show/movie based around the time just after Episode III (ROTS), like in the book "Dark Lord, Rise of Darth Vader", you can show the Empire in its honeymoon period. After all the Republic became the Empire legally. The wider galactic populace are happy, consider the Emperor a hero, consider the Imperial clonetroopers their defenders and as far as most are aware, consider the Jedi enemies of the state. Not to mention, even the Separatists were against corruption of the Republic. Hell, show us the Empire cracking down on incompetence. One of the things I liked in Episode V for instance, was the clear demonstration that Lord Vader believed in a meritocracy and did not tolerate incompetence (hence he "dismissed" the useless Admiral and promoted somebody who was smart). We could see TIE pilots like above, or Imperial commandos who are genuinely good people doing good things against Rebel scum. That would be awesome. Another option is of course to show any aftermath of Episode VI (ROTJ) resulting in a "blend" of old and new. I always thought that it would be interesting if the Imperial loyalists on Coruscant regarded the offspring of Vader as the legitimate heirs to the Imperial throne. And have a schism in the Alliance between those keen on a peaceful transition to a reformed Empire versus the members of the Alliance who merely wish to reinstate the corrupt old form of government again. So much potential.

      All this talk of old Republic, new Republic. Fight against the tyranny of the Empire.
      Don't buy. Never have. Those good old days the rebels preach so loudly about, you know what they are actually like? Trade Federation tariffs for shipping to the Rim. Endless pirate attacks, entire families sold into slavery to the Hutts. You ever hear these grand republics do anything against that? No. Just committee after endless committee.
      When the Imps came along, I thought they were the same. Gloss on white paint. But they stopped the raids. Gave us all a chance to reach to the stars with the academy.
      The empire improved everything it touched. Wasn't perfect. Nothing is.
      And if any of you bastards bring up Alderaan, those snivelling cowards preached pacifism while arming pirates and mobsters an still called themselves a beacon of Republican values.
      Didn't hear noise like that when they were threatened by the Seperatist war droids.
