    About the video.
    A Super successful first joint seminar with Punong Guro Fred Evrard, founder of Kali Majapahit and Bruneian Martial Art - Silat Suffian Bela Diri in Bethisy Saint Pierre, France on the weekend of 24th and 25th January 2015 hosted by Christophe Schlachter and his team.
    Great job to Christophe Schlachter and his team, and Guro Lila Evrard for organizing the major parts of the event.
    Thank you to Sebastian Ribac (SSBD French Group Leader) for helping to support the event and being my English to French interpreter.
    Thank you to everyone who traveled from all over France and from Belgium to the countryside of Bethisy Saint Pierre to support this event.
    Thank you to Radley Ramirez driving down from Germany and for being the cameraman.
    Thank you to Badradin Oulali for his patience in assisting me instruct the seminar, without whom I am not able to present SSBD to its potential.
    On my arrival into Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport I was welcomed by both Punong Guro Fred and Guro Lila and we drove about 50 minutes outside of Paris to a quiet village in the country side of Bethisy Saint Pierre where the seminar will be held. We got to spend time staying in a bed and breakfast accommodation for the whole weekend for the duration of the seminar. Our first night we went out for dinner at a Moroccan restaurant as recommended by Christophe Schlachter. After the seminar, on the monday I was invited and enjoyed a traditional family lunch at Punong Guro Fred’s mother’s apartment in Paris before making my way home. As recommended by Punong Guro Fred, Guro Lila brought me to this small little bakery just around the corner of their apartment called Max Poilane, a world famous French bakery where people across Paris would travel and other 5 star restaurants go to get their bread. I got to taste their lemon tart and croissant. Lunch at Punong Guro’s Mother’s was just delicious, she was ranked highly by one of the food magazine in Paris for her desert, and that says a lot. I also got to be the first Bruneian to help make Aligot a specialty dish from the a region in France where Punong Guro’s parents are from. The talks and the laughters we had this weekend is priceless, I really enjoyed spending quality time with the Evrards.
    Thank you everyone for this amazing experience.
    For those interested to participate in future SSBD seminars in France please contact SSBD Group Leader , Sebastian Ribac at email : SSBDFrance@hotmail.com or call : +33 (0)6 2460 45 78

    • @AndrewInmanartist
      @AndrewInmanartist Před 7 lety +4

      DDuMas they are very similar. Kali has more linear movements than circular. Kali usually don't require low stances. The human body only has so many ways it can move, or be controlled. At their level they have their own style or preference. So he probably started out in Kali and picked up some moves from Silat.

    • @armynurseboy
      @armynurseboy Před 5 lety +1

      Yup, training methods differ a bit too. Silat tend to be more traditional in approach, using elaborate forms to teach the proper movement and postures. Kali doesn't use that as much anymore, preferring to use cooperative drills to teach the movements.

They are both the fighting arts of Sama-Bajau peoples. I think the French teacher is just young and over enthusiastic to show what he has. As for Maul that is his family system. So you could say Maul's family system is impressive which is, and that would be a technically correct statement.

      @Kai Cruz correct bro, They claim the kali is not to be them, indonesia stolen other martial arts, like kung fu silat karate kali etc, They are original martial arts, Because their name is the Indonesian empire the majapahit kali, The Filipino just name their martial arts kali they was taken it name from kalibo and cebu province in philippines, And the indo people think they're original kali martial arts because their indonesia empire also name majapahit kali, FYI they are both names kali, But kali original invented by filipino warriors since world war, even silat stolen original come from malaysia, embarrassing indonesia, So i am just saying,

    • @christianxhanyou5729
      @christianxhanyou5729 Před 5 lety +2

      @Kai Cruz Actually The indonesia country was occupied by majapahit kali empires that's not mean they are indonesia root majapahit empire, the majapahit empire was build in their trives java indonesia, Then majapahit against mongol army, when the majapahit won against mongol, However when the Muslims came to the Far East and to Java, And the majapahit empire trives was destroy by muslim in java indonesia, The majapahit king embraced the islam, Because they are lost by muslim army, And majapahit people went to the philippines china malay thai singapore etc, The majapahit know the lapu lapu warrior father name is kusgano in cebu maktan, So the philipines became influence because of majapahit, And thus the name majapahit is "bitter fruit" and they took kali name is four arms girl demon dance with a holding sword from india, And the filipino kali martial arts they was taken their name province is kalibo aklan and cebu in philippines, So kali original invented by filipino warrior is not majapahit, And the indonesia made majapahit + kali from india, They are fusion it, And the silat original invented by malay, before the majapahit went to the malaysia, and indonesia stolen the silat from malay, And they made the pencak silat indo language, They said they are original invented silat martial arts, Actually silat is original from malaysia, So indonesia do not assume that is not your's originally martial arts, embarrassing indo, and i have seen the website of mapajahit history, So i'm just saying,

    Wonder why in competitions, like all silat moves were lost, while taekwando or karate still maintain their basic moves? Still my heart is with silat, though.

    • @persada5913
      @persada5913 Před 2 lety

      I'm sure by now you realize the staples of Silat which is it incorporates many bone-breaking and crunching techniques. You certainly can't use that in a competition, can you? Silat is more wholesome fighting art which uses your whole body to fight whereas taekwondo and karate put more emphasis on kicking and punching. But if you carefully watch Silat tournament like sparring, you should notice the goal is to take down your opposition to the ground by sweeping, kicking the knee to break the structure and balance. Every kick and punch are just bonuses. If you manage to take down your opposition outside the small circle in the ring then you won. So, the basic of Silat of sweeping, breaking the structure and balance are still there that's why they call sport Silat a harmless type of fighting. but when you're in the street everything is fair game so you can use whatever bone-breaking and crunching that cross your mind as long as you have mastered the hand flows and footworks of Silat.

    • @persada5913
      @persada5913 Před 2 lety

      But then again who said sport Silat can't be used in the street, when you're up against someone, your goal is to take down your opponent that's where sweeping, knee kicking to break the structure and balance is important. Master these basics and you could even create your own style. That's the beauty of Silat its principles offer endless possibilities. That's why I love and prefer Silat over any known martila arts and that's why I think Silat is more superior to any martial arts even the concatenated versions like mma, jkd, bjj.

    • @persada5913
      @persada5913 Před 2 lety

      Arnis/Eskrima/Kali is basically the same its just language what they call them.
      Its not an art nor a self defense.
      It was initially used to kill people.
      If it is called a martial art or self defence then its the newer version.
      And there are many variations inside Arnis/Eskrima/Kali depending on what tribe you are on before.

      About Silat, i think its the newer version. It has the similarities of Chinese kung Fu or Japanese Karate. Notice how they channel their arms to simulate Chi or Ki or whatever they call in their art.
      On the other hand, the Kali doesn't do that.

    kali is more intent on killing and not just pain. its main purpose was conquer and defend bcoz it was use by soldiers from the kingdom to invade...
    and for filipinos its a dangerous art,,,it was not allowed by spanish regime to be prcaticed.and after the regime, it was not advised to be learn by locals,,,bocz its dangerous if it was learnt by the wrong person...thats why it has ben kept secret,,,as locals found it more dangerous than necessary.

      Kali is an ancient term used to signify the martial arts in the region of the Philippines. In the Southern Philippines, it is called Kali-Silat. Silat refers to the movements of the lower body. Filipino stick fighting was entrenched in the island’s culture long before the Spanish arrived in 1521. When the Spanish arrived, they saw a wavy-edged sword about 30 inches long made of wood called a “kalis.” During Spanish occupation, they forbade the practice of Kali. The Spaniards called the art Eskrima or Arnis. That is why all three words are used to describe this art.

    Anybody that does a seminar with Maul better have their material together otherwise
    you will look like an amateur, for instance their is" this guy's" level of profciency and then there's Maul. Kali Majapahit appears to be in competition with Maul, he's moving so fast he looks sloppy. Fast is slow, slow is accurate. Maul is so to the point, his movements appear flashy but that is one's mind processing what it interprets. Maul is overly generous, he doesn't have to share his insights, incontrast, one's traditional custom in South East culture is that keep these insights close so your enemie does not know how to counter your moves. Remember he's allowing the camera to expose the different angles, I am glad he's not political. Even more I like to see a mma player go against his edged weapon knowledge, come on now this is not art's and crafts.
