I'm a white guy with Italian and European ancestors and I had no problem understanding the people. Then again I've always loved reading, studying, watching stuff from other countries. So maybe I'm just used to accents. Also the Ghana accent is a bit easier to understand. They speak it, though mainly speak lingua and franca.

In the states we always see Africa as HOT, and it was was warm but comfortable. The shopping was fun, lots of colorful stuff. I brought 50 small American Flags with me and started giving them out, everyone wanted one. and had like 15 locals hangout with me the rest of the day showing me sights and shopping, and food... So miss traveling. Love your Country!
I live in Egypt. The national dish is Koshari. It has two types of pasta, rice, chickpeas, lentils, garlic, chilli, deep fried onions and salsa. It's delicious.
Yes brother, I lived in West Africa for 3 years. Noone spoke English where I was. It was tough. Mud hut. No electricity. No running water. No phones. No computers. But hey, I can speak multiple tribal languages and I survived the 19 hour flight. And I hate flying too! 🤗❤🥃

They helped me learn West African customs, manners of behavior. Wolof. And a little bit of Malinké. I went from Thies to Mamoun. Stayed in Mamoun for a few weeks, then headed to Guineé where I was dropped off in a Manding village (Faranwalia), just below Mali. There I lived in a mud hut and basically left the world I'd known behind. I travelled throughout the West (Sousou Tribe) and East (Pulaar Country). South to (Guerize Rain Forrest and mountain regions). And I lived North, in the wooded Savannah planes (Maliké tribe and territory. I vaccinated children and young mothers against Polio and Yellow Fever, taught proper health and hygiene, prenatal care, food safety, how to fix contaminated wells, etc. In many different villages. A couple in my church has a ministry in Uganda to help people in Kampala and also people in the North, especially orphans left from Koni. It is organized by the couple, but it is led by Ugandan ministers. My wife has been with a team to help them - she went to Uganda and then to Kenya to visit a couple we know who were there at the time. We have also sent people into southern Sudan to minister to people who have very difficult living conditions. I have ministered in London and in the Middle East alongside of Africans, but I haven't been to Africa myself. I'd like to go sometime and see the great work happening there.
I went on a school trip to Spain, and we took a day trip to Africa.We ate this dish in a restaurant, I forget what it was called. I loved it. Lol, someone told me I could eat the same thing home, and it was called Chef Boyardee, Beefaroni. I ate cans of it for weeks when we got home.

Just wondering why you won't fly. My mom was a secretary for a small local airport when I was about 8-10 years old. I went for rides a few times. When I was 12 I flew on a commercial jet and loved it. My brother got his pilots license several years ago and he bought a plane. His son got his pilots license when he was 17. He didn't even have a permit to drive a car. Now he's a flight instructor for the Navy.

I've been to Lagos but my hosts did not recommend I travel, even westward along the Atlantic Coast. So... I've been to Lagos. And the Philippines is the same. You'd have to fly into Manila (ugh, which is like any other Big City) but there are two great regions to visit: go northwest to Baguio (mountains and ocean); or go south to Cebu, in the center and go sailing.
I'm living in Africa right now...North Africa anyway. Totally different from the sub-Saharan African countries and cultures. This was funny - thanks for sharing, Jamel! Keep up the great work!
