@wildebest think it's incredibly harsh to criticise his pace. He doesn't lack it at all, especially compared to most 10s.
Consistency is his biggest problem, if he played up to his best more regularly no one would throw a criticism at him.

@wildebest probably th fastest 10 in the home nations so not sure whether barret is the benchmark for speed in which case means most players are to slow

wildebest I mean I do but if u watch him he literally hunts down Finn Russell scores that worldy against Tonga his pace one of the biggest parts of his game u obviously don’t understand speed easily as quick as anscombe but no one criticises his pace

    • @cymrocam
      @cymrocam Před 4 lety +1

wildebest The game that most fans remember as Patchell’s first and best for Wales is most likely the game against Tonga. Any game in which Patchell has been subbed on for, he’s changed it completely, just like Gareth Davies. His passing is sublime and risky but it’s paid off far more than it hasn’t (can’t remember the last time one of his passes didn’t reach its intended target). He may show lack of consistency at international level but that’s because he hasn’t had enough experience at it yet, but that will change under Pivac. For the Scarlets, Patchell is always a stand out player for the match, never lacking in regional consistency or ability. It’s time for him to have the opportunity before we miss his prime like we did with Henson and many before him. Rhys Patchell is already a class act, the only area I’d say needs improvement is tackling, and we know he’s already been working on that with Brad and Co at the Scarlets.

wildebest ur doing exactly the same u say he has no acceleration but I don’t know if u have that right his first step from a standstill is great considering his height( 6ft 3/6ft 4)which is a factor in acceleration

Think he showed his class in the WC warm up against Ireland, when he came on for Evans and transformed things. Carried it on into the WC also.

    The best moment
might not be the 5:33 grubber kick,
but if he'd been in that position in 2015
when (at Twickenham, RWC group phase fixture Wales 6-15 Australia)
the Aussies had TWO players in the sean bean,
could he have been the difference in unlocking that great Wallaby blitz defence?
Given how angry I look back
at the disallowed Alessandro Troncon try -
the costliest rugby refereeing decision ever -
(even more than Wayne Barnes' two French calls vs New Zealand in Cardiff, RWC2007 QF ) -
at the Huddersfield RWC1999 England vs Italy
which changed destiny for those two rugby nations forever,
the sportsman in me still has to remind myself what could have happened
had his participation in the first of two tests in Argentina 2018
been correctly ended with a red card 20mins in...
Nice to see the 50m+ placekicks at 0:42, 3:42 and 4:52.
Hopefully he will bring more from ALL our backs in future years.

Makes me think of a rugby playing Kevin DeBruyne. Still young so hopefully he will improve and come into the Wales squad. If he could bulk up he would be a big problem for defenses. I wonder if he is one of those who can't add muscle so easily. See a lot of arguing about his pace. Seems like if he can hit the line at speed he has a high top end but maybe can get off the mark as quick as some of the shorter guys. Always a hard road playing at his position as a Welshman.
