I have watched several of your videos and I must say, I thoroughly enjoy how you present the material and your obvious knowledge and ability. I have been self teaching for almost a year now. I am using an online app which I feel is doing a pretty good job, and the one thing I do like about this particular app is it does allow you to slow the notes down to 60% or 80% when playing the practice songs. My struggles right now are playing with both hands and chord location. I do have stickers on my yamaha 76 key, ooops my bad. I have also watched a few of your music reading videos and have started doing the note exercises on your website. I do try to practice around the same time every day as you suggested. Thank you very much for putting these videos out there. They helped me regain my motivation to keep on going forward.

I have a piano lesson once a week, since playing piano is therapeutic for me. And we talk about the various resources on You Tube, and I've mentioned Tims' channel.
My teacher made a comment in my last lesson, which made me proud. In the first lesson, he put up the sheet music for C Prélude since I had forgotten my cheat sheet with the notes listed. I couldn't read it.
So I watched over forty of your videos on sightreading. And I re-watched them. And I practiced every day.
I'm still working on the C Prélude, but I transcribed it into thoroughbass and I'm playing it in every key. I still haven't memorized it yet, but that will come. I think I impressed my teacher when I played it in B Major, with no faults.
Then we played a piece by Sakura. I made a couple mistakes, but my teacher said that I was a good sightreader.
That is thanks to Tims lessons. I felt proud that Tims piano teacher passed on his knowledge through Tim down to me.
That is the tradition of playing piano.

I would LOVE a whole lesson how you set up all your equipment, please! Great helpful video, Tim. Thanks so much! Also a video on how to properly use the sustain pedal would be great! 🎹 What are your thoughts on forscore? Do you like staffpad better?

You are fantastic! I'm teaching myself and I'm all over CZcams searching for the best fit, and I think you're it. You have a great voice and are really easy to listen to. I love that you smile and laugh a lot. It shows me that you enjoy what you're doing and that makes a big difference. I like people who don't take themselves too seriously. You are so knowledgeable, and I just sense that you genuinely want to share that knowledge with me. I've learned a lot from you already and just subscribed.
The sight reading is really coming slowly for me. I will eventually get it, but for now it's quite frustrating. I feel like a bit of a moron as to why this is taking so long. I've always been able to get to where I need to go, but this is a slog. I can definitely see why most beginners bail out of learning how to read music, because it's not for the faint of heart. This is not the first time I've attempted this. I don't want to give up yet again. I'm hoping to find the fortitude to keep going because I just love how the piano sounds, and I've written so many songs I want to play.
Anyway, thanks Tim! You are providing such a great service to so many aspiring piano players.

As a brand newbie I struggle with sight reading. I also struggle with trying to muddle through a few bars of pieces that is to difficult because I love it, like prelude in C, Amelie, passacaglia.

I think for me is having the knowledge of what to learn and what I should be focusing on but after this video I feel more confident in what I need to do now. I will watch your playlist especially the video you said watch next…I think the problem being self taught is knowing what to learn and when…

I started from scratch as a new adult beginner at the beginning of the year. I bought the Faber adult adventures book but never really took to it. I found I learned and retained more knowledge from interactive and video lessons. My success and constant improvement have come from the Pianote, Piano Marvel and Playground Sessions platforms. I did also have an in person lesson bi-weekly lesson to support any questions I may have had and to help with technique. There are a lot of great CZcams tutorials as well that have been helpful. I've ditched the in person lessons for now but might bring them back into the mix if I run in to any challenges further down the road. You have to find what works best for yourself.

I learned piano as a pre-teener with a teacher in the neighborhood. When I retired from work 5 yrs ago, I decided to re-learn on my own, with the end goal to learn how to play pieces that I used to play. Now 5 yrs later, I’ve relearned some favorites and have learned a lot of easier pop songs. However, I wish I can play more confidently with less mistakes, less pauses. This is my current struggle.
FYI, and to give you an idea of my level, I’ve managed to relearn Czardas, Madrilena (by Paul Wachs) & Poet Peasant but when I play them, I dread the thought that a piano teacher or trained pianist would here me and think, how awful!

I just bought that second piano method he was showing (piano adventures book 1) from the Apple Books for $16.99. I thought it was better buy than the actual book with a cd in 2024. Only been a few days, but it’s going good. It’s not chord heavy like the first book he showed.
