Greetings from Germany! I am not that optimistic. We have been talking about "talents" for quite some years. A "talented team" went to Qatar and it was a mess.
Kroos won't play in 2026, Gündogan is 33, Füllkrug and Rüdiger are both 31. Young players like Wirtz and Beier are skilled, but these lightweight attackers can be pushed aside easily if there is little space.

well yesterday they looked a lot like the spain from a while ago:
Lots of possession, but against a very well organized , tight defense by a good team they lacked a goal solution.
Wasnt even a very high press by Switzerland most of the time, just super tight and disciplined defensive work in their own half.
If they had started with two flanking (aka crossing) wingers and Fuellkrug the game might have looked a lot different . At least Nagelsmann recognized it and made the changes - might have done it a bit earlier , though i reckon, but is what it is , eh?

It was definitely not excellent. I agree attacking against a low block is hard, but they had no creativity when they were on the ball, and their best chances routinely came on set pieces, mostly from corners. And when they had the ball in their own half, Switzerland won the ball back a ton. They didn't have a good gameplan and didn't adapt to Switzerland's press at all. If Nagelsman is getting out played by Murat Yakin, (the Swiss coach) then there's no shot he stands a chance against teams like France, Spain, and Portugal.

I think you carry a good point but also consider this. Germany over the last decade has lost their footballing philosophy, their identity was misssing. nagelsmann has built a good system. Truth is you gotta be stubborn at times. Can’t be scared to play your football. They faced a discipline opponent, and if we are being honest, we were 1-0 up without VAR within 16 mins. I feel mentally that disallowed goal disrupted our rhythm, but we still lived in the Swiss half. More clinical, sharper touches game become 2/3-1. This German performance was average at best, our touch and execution was poor, and the Swiss frustrated us. It is interesting to see what Nagelsmann did against those bulky only playing defense and scoring on the three counterattacks teams without having players with high pace. I mean it is basically the metha in Football since 2018 to play destructiv not constructive being a smaller team. And yes france, spain and portugal played it more beautiful than germany, but only because they had the players for these fast pace deep runs. So it was strong by the players, but a bit of a no brainer on the manager side. This german playstyle is still the smoothest, maybe except spain.

Germany were VERY LUCKY not to go down 2-0 with an incredible goal that was just a touch offside. They scored the equalizer in the last 15 seconds.
