- Lassen Peak stands roughly 10,457 ft tall in Shasta county California and is the southernmost active volcano in the US Cascade Range. Since last erupting between 1914-1917, the East face of the mountain has been shaped for excellent back country skiing conditions. See the following link for a ski routes map:

In this video, I begin at Emigrant Pass Trailhead in late May. The snow has already retreated to the point where I decide to leave my snowboard behind and boot out the roughly 6 mile round trip with about 4,000 ft of elevation change. Remaining snow allowed for glissading roughly 1,500-2,000 ft of snow on the NorthEast face, which made the effort to summit well worth it.
This time of year most climb the mountain from the South side Lassen Peak Trailhead, which is the easier approach through the warmer months. The south side is not as accessible in winter months. Emigrant Pass TH, on the NorthEast side of the Mountain, is accessible as long as the snow plows go all the way to the Devastated Area Loop Trail parking lot. There is generally enough snow to skin up the mountain and ski back to the parking lot there until around the end of April.
