  • Remember the man who told us the chateau had cellars in the 1940s? This week we excavate a site in front of the chateau to look for them!
We are Marc, Amy, Clement and Juliette, a French-English family restoring a 33 room medieval chateau and huge estate in southern France. Follow our award-winning, historically-sensitive restorations and our journey towards self-sufficiency and sustainability, with plenty of laughter along the way.

When my ex husband was a small boy, his farmer neighbour took him on his tractor. As he got older, an equipment operator friend let him practice on his backhoe. It made such a huge impression on him, he went on to become a heavy equipment operator at one of the largest open pit Lead/Zinc mines in N. America (in the Yukon where I live) and then an equipment/haulage truck trainer on other mine sites. Those tiny seeds planted in his mind sparked big dreams that came true for him, and a very successful career to this day. He never complains about going to work, he LOVES it. Something I think about as I watch your son help his Dad. 💞

Everyone is curious 🧐 Clement is sure a sweet spirited young man. I love how you just let Clement explore and help without constantly telling him no. Gentle parenting. ❤❤❤❤

    A really beautiful intro,

Another fascinating yet hilarious post. Amy with her shovel and brush and Mark with the digger. Clement and Juliette are having a magical childhood with parents who include them in everything. ❤

I would take those eggs far into the forest a few miles from your property. It probably was just a turret there like the other one you have. Would you make a family pool enclosed for the family you have the space :) I am guessing you are reinstating the turret then :) as I think that is what you are finding the stones for it. If it were me I would focus on fixing up the chateau so you can move back in ;) once you have done that then think about hidden cellars :)

You may be able to rent a ground penetrating RADAR, to survey around the buildings.

  • @Mej_Javiky

To be continued,,, But not next week..😂😂🤣😂

  • @koryschue1396

As always, I loved this episode. Amy I hope you are feeling better. Sending love and healing vibes.❤

  • @hmeyers5114

I agree, Marc! Keep digging. Or let the mice do it. 😈

  • @allon33

The Cellar would be close to the Road, where deliveries of food could be taken from the transport and moved to the Cellar in the least amount of steps. Where was the old road running close to the house?

  • @kandplamb

This episode was hilarious. Everyone digging, slavemaster ants, the toilet drain as opposed to a cellar entrance, Margo throwing dirt for Amy to shovel again, and chickens surrounding Marc's digger. They are so well trained😅. Patricia
