    the cue function is amazing, I'll be busting my head on 3 recorder loops to record just single tracks. Smart. smuuurtth! damm it amma try this

    One thing I've noticed with this - I think you need to have the level on track 4 (the recording track) set to 127 to get the volume to match exactly. Any lower will attenuate the signal you just recorded, thus it will be quieter.

    With CUE you can even sample muted tracks. I found this to be particularly useful!

    Great tutorial.really appreciated that thanks. Suddenly opened up what I can do with scenes massively. Cue trick is excellent. Arm track key combo also invaluable

    Very cool trick... would be interesting to combine this with DJ EQ or filtering.. or even echo freeze on that track 4 to really blend in smoothly

    That was good & helpful, even a decade later. :)
    What I wnder is, what if you don't switch a pattern, but rather a bank? Which kind of equals a song in a set, but when I just tried it, it kinda took the recording over to the next bank, but after iirc one cycle through the sequencer, it abruptly stopped. Also, chances are that on the next bank, the scene has another effect assigned, which would result in that other effect getting active instead of the recording. So gotta make sure to prepare everything thoroughly.

    Hey man, would you use this to mix songs (stereo files), as in a dj set? I don’t do that myself but my dj friend wants me to test it for him so will be trying it tonight. If i recall correctly the long set you posted a while back was using stems, just using a full mix i guess i could get 6 songs plus the recorder and master per part, so that’s 24 songs per bank. Thanks!

    i want to record the master as u say , but i can get no sound.
    i have my DIR in 127 in all in's and the Rate it's ok on the track 4 . but i still can't .

    It works great, especially with one shot trigger. One question about fader - what is happening with the sound between scenes A and B? When i move the scene fader from left to right (transition from recorded part to the other scene) there is a strange sonic part in the middle of crossfader.... How to avoid that? Is it normal?

    • @particle808
      @particle808 Před 10 lety

      Move the crossfader fast.

      John Durbin but it does not make sense to me... fast? is it transition trick for slowly crossfading?

  • @ypmtd
    @ypmtd Před 11 lety +1

    Hi Tarekith, thanks for the great tutorial! One question, it seems like there is a small volume difference between the live tracks and the recorded track. I cleared all track pages (amp, effects, etc) and made sure all volumes and levels are equal on all tracks incl T4 and T8, the master track. Any idea where I have to look?

      I know it's been 3 years since your post but... did you ever figured that out? I'm having the same issue. I fixed it by having a compressor with a light gain value, around 3... but it would be nice to use that fx slot for something else

      @@juliomontes5525 hehe I don't remember to be honest! I currently use my Digitakt through the Octatrack (the latter functioning as a performance mixer/looper) and it works fine for my purposes

    • @juliomontes5525
      @juliomontes5525 Před 2 lety

      @@Depuratumba Thanks for replying bro haha...I think it may have to do with the OT's compressor, particularly the gain setting within it. I actually just switched around my audio routing and have the DT going into my SC now to save machine in the OT. Ultiomately results in extra layer of melody that my loops lack.

    • @Depuratumba
      @Depuratumba Před 2 lety

      @@juliomontes5525 what I remember doing is resampling from the master track (with the compressor on one of the fx slots) and then on scene 2 I parameter lock the compressor mix to be all the way down... that worked for me IIRC!
      btw I'm from Argentina so maybe we could have had this conversation in spanish all along? just speculating based on your name, heh

    Great video..!! ***** I am interested in buying a Elektron Octatrack, and I have a doubt. What is the maximum length of wav files or .aiff 44,000 / 16bit the Octatrack can play in its eight tracks ?.

    Hi Tarekith, when my recorder track gets to the end of it's length, it just stops. it looks like it has captured the audio ( i have 2 arrows scroll across the screen) but it doesn't carry on looping. any idea why that could be? i have the rec track armed and a solid yellow trig lit up and even the loop turned on..

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  Před 6 lety +1

      James Mslwte you need a record trig and a playback trig on that first step for the loop to play back.

    Hi there ive subscribed to your channel and like the octatrack videos...i realise they are from a while back but these x fader ones are like GOLD!!! I have just got my octa mkii and have it slaved to the digitakt so i can use the DT's bpm per pattern and the octa will follow. My question relates to the infinate retrigger on say last perc in a track to transition between patterns...im syruggling to get this to work even though ive set it up as infinate on my last snare in pattern...any further setup tips would be greatly appreciated...cheers rob

    • @robfordomjones
      @robfordomjones Před 6 lety

      I also wish to setup my octa to run the live loop track using rec trig...if i leave the rec trig on trig one of thre 4 bars will that constantly update the 4 bar loop from whatever audio is currently playing...whilst the one shot rec trig where you press then press to disarm after recording stsrting csptures one four bar snippet thst just constantly loops in sync...with fader right over to right?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  Před 8 lety

      For this method yes. You can lose the master track, but then you have to balance all the volumes for the recorder. PITA.

    • @SHELLAC85
      @SHELLAC85 Před 8 lety

      gotcha, was banging my head tyring to get this to work, found the answer in your previous video explaining this, the fact that you add 2 trigs on the record track, one when in record mode, the other when in play mode. I just figured out the play mode trig. Now im just going through getting my patterns the same length as the record length. Thanks for the videos man :)
