Sí Bheag Sí Mhór on uilleann pipes

  • Sí Bheag Sí Mhór is a tune normally attributed to the blind harper Turlough O'Carolan from around 1670 - 1738. I love it for it's melody. But it also reminds me of a man I once knew who would sing a powerful song to this air. It's commonly requested during weddings and it sounds particularly nice in a church setting. Imagine that it is said that this was likely Turlough O'Carolan's first composition! It's quite amazing but hardly surprising considering the amazing music he would go on to create during his life time.

My husband is an Uilleann piper. He performed one time at a venue when an elderly man came up to me and said, "That's something you'll won't hear every day!" Thought but didn't say, "Well, actually, I do!"

@@gloin10 I am, so! Another time when we were busking downtown, Tom had his sunglasses on when an older man came up to me and said, "He's blind, isn't he?" I was so tempted to say, "No, but he's deaf!""

    Just beautiful!
The playing sounds so natural and easy - although this tune must be quite a challenge on the uilleann pipes as it requires playing very high notes (the highest available if I am not mistaken?).
    The regulators add a lot.
