  • TRYING TO BUY INDIAN CLOTHES AT JANPATH MARKET NEW DELHI
After a crazy day in Old Delhi... we decided to go shopping for some Indian style clothes.
Janpath market was the best decision we made. Friendly people and great atmosphere. What an experience. We would definitely recommend this place

A quick tip - please wash the clothes once before wearing them. If you buy something from a mall in India, there's absolutely no need for washing it beforehand. However, Janpath stores usually hang the clothes out in the open all day long. And since it's the baby wearing those clothes, it's twice as important to be careful given their sensitive skin.

Cotton is not 100% smooth. When you rub the fabric between your fingers you should feel some friction ( only some , if friction is big then it will not be comfortable on skin ).
Also , in India most of fabrics are cotton mix.
I would suggest to buy from proper shops , not from road side vendors.
In shops you can see the contents in tag as well.
They maybe little costly, but you would love it .
I have a garment shop in India .
Good prices in shops should be like :-
    Cotton T-shirts - 300 -500 Rs.
    Kurta ( Readymade) - 600 - 1500 Rs.
    Shirt - 600 - 1200 Rs.
    Pant - 1000 - 2000 Rs.
    For women
    Kurta / Top - 500 - 1200 Rs.
    Salwar/ Plazo ( lower wear ) - 600 - 1200 Rs.
    Tshirts - 300 - 600 Rs.
Pro tip : use talcum powder , it will keep you cool and dry .

The one "head scarf" you bought is actually a "Shawl" Which is different from what you see indian women wearing around their neck. The thing you were looking for is "dupatta/chunni". The Shawl is used to cover body during winters, so I don't think it's a good idea to wear it in summer.

That's hardly a good advice. First of all the products available online and the products in a local shop are completely different. The pricing is different too, because most items online are branded and have extra brand value added to the price. And then ofcourse you have no way of relating the quality of items you are viewing online to what is available in a shop. The best way is to ask a trustworthy local person for help.

The blue outfit looks so amazing on you, You have beautiful eyes. ❤One suggestion for shopping- In street shopping try to reduce prices by more than 1/3rd and in well-constructed shops by 1/4th. Don't show much interest in buying and just start moving a little as if you will not buy, this is a tactic for reducing prices. Keep exploring!

  • @emotionalIntelligence2078

Alright I couldn't bear their prices. Quick Guide for Indian streets:-
    1) Scarfs/Bandana & small items:
If 1200/- is asked reduce the price to half first. So 600/- is the listed price(assuming) Seller would be still profitable @ 500/- or max upto450/-
(If it's asked ~500/- .Deduct 200/- to get a reasonable price)
2)Big clothes (sari, kurta suits for women): 1000/- sari would be asked 3-4 times. The two Kurtis 2150/- divided by 4 or 3 gives you 500-700/ peice. Pick any one price based on quality & Since you are buying Two(add. discount) ,Add both to get the sum= 1000 or 1400/- and further deduct ATLEAST 200(if sum 1k).

i agree local vendors are charging 4-5 times the original price but i believe it's a very normal practice because they charge indians too 2-3 times the original cost and then bargain. it's basically in their genes to increase the price and then bargain with the customers and cut out maximum profit out of it.

I might be too late commenting! But in terms of material to keep you cool, viscose, lyocell, rayon are actually much better than pure cotton or linen. These material are self breathing and you won't sweat much in them. I think you might be confusing them with polyester/ satin! My wife's Polish (i'm Indian) and she always prefers viscose to cotton when visiting India, even during summer. Good luck with your travels!!

And rayon nowadays is cooler than cotton btw. Lighter. Durable And absorbant but destroys trees. Cotton reflects no light, rayon will reflect a "polished" surface

Where is the lawrence's tryout? Would love to see him try Indian clothes.
Also, you may not find pure cotton products or silk products in local vendors, you can find them in bigger shops. Prices wouldnt need haggling and you may get better value overall. However, I support you supporting local shops.

Omg! She and the baby looked amazing! My pick is the white one it looks so comfy and chic but yeah all 3 looked amazing! Also you don't necessarily need to put scarf on head or wear traditional in most cases cases however to be sure you can simply put it on shoulder and if you dont want to do that you can wear outfit no 2 or 3 without any problem going to temples or traditional places. I myself has never worn a scarf or even kurta while going to temple ! Indians will welcome you regardless of what you wear since we believe guest is god like.

whatever the pricing is you should buy at 30%-40% of it so start bargaing at 20 and end it at 40 but you're forienger so they will quote 2x 3x then what they quote indians most of the garments are under 1000 in India and street vendors usually don't have clothes above 1000

Hey mate, I am from Chester, United Kingdom, born in Delhi. If you are looking for the best and easy material to roam around "LINEN" is a good bet. However, 100% pure linen is tough to find so 100% cotton clothes that are readily available would be a great substitute. Lajpat Nagar market in the South of Delhi could be a place to visit for this. By the way, you look so beautiful and lively throughout. Keep posting the good work, Cheerio

Buying from shops in the open the prices should be around or less than 1000 always. There are fewer times when the stuff is actually good and its justified to pay upto 14-1500.
