- ET’s Ash Crossan spoke with director James Gunn about assembling Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and more for ‘The Suicide Squad,’ in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6. Gunn also opens up about ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ likely being his final project with Marvel Studios, his plans for the ‘Peacemaker’ TV series with John Cena and what he’d like to do next with DC!

@@joshvanbragt4274 Not really. Initially Disney said he was out for some old tweets, and then the cast all rallied around him and marvel told Disney they were aware of the tweets when they first signed him for GOTG, and so they bought him back on

@@NadaCero this movie is far from a flop you fool. It’s rated extremely well with critics and fans love it and are praising it as the best DC movie in years. The movie can’t be blamed because of the pandemic and HBO Max release. Plus Walter Hamada and Gunn already confirmed they’re taking about more projects. Next time, don’t open your mouth if you don’t know what you’re talking about.

JAMES GUNN seems to just know the characters he uses PERFECTLY, this is the definitive Suicide Squad movie, we got to have more DC movies from him, WE NEED MORE!!!!!!!!!!! I was a little bothered that he didn't use more characters or gave some of them more time, but for what we got I LOVED IT, the film was still GREAT and there's so much I want to see from him with so many different characters. But one movie at a time. SO WELL DONE GUNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@madprophetus You sound trollish, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, having watched both Guardians and Suicide Squad, the similar James Gunn signature is all over both movies. He has a pretty unique style that permeates both movies. It’s clear James Gunn was largely responsible for the quality of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Also, I personally loved this new Suicide Squad movie, and I agree with those who say it’s one of the best DC movies made to date.

I love how he’s genuinely happy about killing off Groot and Yondu. And now he’s going for Drax in the third installment
Drax is for sure gonna bite it just because we know Bautista wants out. He might kill someone else too for an actual surprise.

When you have no interference from WB, you get good results like The Suicide Squad and Zack Synder version of the Justice League.

Suicide Squad was amazing, but Snyder JL was maybe only a scosche better than Whedon JL - still a bunch of hot garbage packed in a dumpster fire.

I always thought DC had the most potential for great movies, and it sucked to see the shitty movies they released for a while. seeing a consistently great director/writer on DC is a big step in the right direction.
I’m sad boomerang died but I know he enjoyed being in the film and you could tell he had a good time on set

James is such a fricking g, he’s the hope that the DCEU needed right now. Just look at him, he’s so passionate about everything and he genuinely seems like such a fun person to be around, very excited for his upcoming DC projects. He seems to be really happy being part of the DCEU compared to the way he is when he’s asked a question about marvel… maybe it’s for the best!

This movie had so many WTF and OMG moments . . . Have to watch it a second, third time.
I'm speculating a bit but with how he's talking, and the reports of him being much more involved over at DC for the foreseeable future I get the impression that he's gonna finish Guardians 3 and then be done with Marvel.

I feel if suicide squad and justice league were done right from the beginning the dceu would be in a different place. Snyder and Gunn did a great job on their versions of the films. I also know that it is not Ayers fault that suicide squad was bad that’s on WB.

“I wanted to make a James Gunn movie” says a lot. I want to watch a James Gunn movie. Guardians is great and fits into Marvel. Suicide Squad doesn’t really have to fit into anything. I just hope he gets to make more and more movies with big budgets.

Let’s go DC! DC has so many amazing characters, even their B, C, and D lister villains and heroes are great, now that James Gunn is with DC, it’s back on! I can’t wait to see what else Gunn does for us true DC fans.

this is what i love about james gunn he actually really cares more for lesser known characters. the guardians have never been more popular since gunn & disney got together and created 2 awesome movies. & i hope he gets to do an Ravagers series on Disney+ because i would really like to see more from them now stallone still can look the part without to much editing
This movie was bold, innovative, outrageous, insane, hilarious, fun, entertaining with great character development and visual effects. It also goes all in with the R rating. This was an amazing film. An absolute blast and one of the most entertaining comic book movies I've ever seen. My favorite dceu film and the best dc film since the dark knight trilogy.

it's so cinematic, with creative chapter title, tarantino-like zoom ins, those tracking shots, unique camera angles, the soundtracks, visually i really enjoy it, and those pacing man, the "3 days ago" "8 minutes earlier" "now".

With this Movie being put on HBOMAX it killed it's return on Investment. It was a lot of fun to see in a theater. Don't get the same experience when watching on your TV. No matter how good of TV and Surround Sound you have.
Totally enjoyed the movie in theatre . Got more than what I expected ,worth all the time . This is what we expect from DC - R rated & liberty for the directors . Don't miss the big screen experience.

The characters he should tackle or possible films are a Green Lantern corp trilogy that eventually leads into Lantern corps (all the colors of the spectrum) vs the Black Lanterns, Lobo featuring Scott Eastwood, and Booster Gold.
Directors should be given full access and control of characters. Also, great interviewing by Ash

One thing I’m loving about this movie is how every person I’ve talked to about it and in comments I’ve seen on different videos is that everyone has a different favorite character or different view on who the stand out character was. I love how James Gunn brought these characters to life and made so many people love each of them.

With James Gunn directing the Peace Maker show I have more faith in the fight choreography feeling like the Disney+ Marvel TV shows. They just don’t feel cinematic for the most part with. I could turn out to be wrong but I think Jame’s experience will translate. Disney seems to want to do this on the cheap and it shows. At least the action bits
