Is BORACAY worth visiting in 2023? 🇵🇭

  • In this video we are going to muddy the crystal clear waters of Boracay's reputation just a little bit. Over the years this Filipino island has become the poster-boy/beach?, for island paradise in the Philippines. Although it is beautiful, we wanted to show you some of the things that not many people talk about to hopefully paint you a more realistic picture of the true Boracay. Enjoy!

The algae formation has been around and document way before the island was just inhabited by a small fishing community back in the 70's. They naturally occur when the waters begin to warm-up in the months beginning from March till June.

Come to think of it, all waters in the Philippine quite warm up in certain months, but only Boracay has that algae. Then we think of Boracay as the only one with that fine white sand beach. It gives credence to what the locals are saying that it is the algae itself that turns to white sand. PS. first time I was in Boracay was in April 2007, and algae then was still pencil thin.

the algae is not because of a sewage system, its a seasonal natural phenomenon, if it was from the sweage then it would've appeared all year round

Right now we have a seasonal outbreak of algae that is considered toxic in Southern California beaches that killed hundreds of sea lions and dolphins and California has one of the most strict and comprehensive sewage regulations on earth. From what I know, Boracay’s algae is also seasonal.

The algea is not because of sewage because if it is it would be present all year round but it's not. It's seasonal. Also, here's a statement from the General Manager of DENR-led Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group (BIARMG) Martin Jose Despi " The presence of the algae is simply a natural phenomenon that occurs yearly during the dry season or summer period in different areas of Boracay,” said Despi.
“Tourists are assured that Boracay waters are clean and safe for swimming,” added Despi.
Data from DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) found that Boracay beach is still within the safe standard for swimming, which is 1,000 most probable number (mpn) per 100 millimeter (ml).
Based on the laboratory tests, coliform level in the front beach is 8mpn/100ml for January 2022 and 11mpn/100ml for February 2022."

The amount of algae in boracay from almost all year is not seasonal.

Glad that you showed both sides of Boracay the good and the bad. Well, at least this video is realistic and it shows both pros and cons of Boracay. Foreigners have to travel thousands of miles away and spend lots of money on airfare hoping to be impressed and then of course, reality hits. So it’s best to have more of a balance expectation. The Caribbean and the Bahamas, for instance, is only a few hours flight from the US and it offers tropical white sand beaches and clear water so Boracay is not the only options, unless you really want to go there.
I’m Filipino living in the US and I’m lucky enough to afford to travel to many different countries, cities and beaches. The best experience to date so far, is the Maldives in one of the Hilton resort. It was so spectacular and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Maldives is even way better in person and of course, being on a private island resort is very exclusive because you’re not competing with thousands of other tourists. The high price is the only downside.

whether the algae is natural or man-made, would really like it if they can hire someone who would clean it from the waterz, not completely spotless but at least to minimize their presence in the water 🌊 [*maybe at least once a week, since they're earning from environmental fees]
P.S., ... with the touts/locals approaching to sell all sorts of trinkets, boat tours ⛵, water activities, etc. [*it's a turn off, would prefer they stay in one place and just have their contact #no. 📱 if and when someone decides to go for their services]
